      BACKGROUND

      In certain situations you may need to run Setup when booted from
      Stacker 4.0 for OS/2 & DOS disk # 1. This works well, but you may
      need to take some extra steps if you already have a compressed
      drive on the system. Previously compressed drives may be
      DoubleSpace, DriveSpace, SuperStor/DS drives, or a previous
      version of Stacker. When the Setup process converts or updates
      these drives, it runs CHKDSK to make sure the drive is OK.
      However, the version of DOS (DR-DOS) included with Stacker disk #
      1 cannot not run the version of CHKDSK that may be on your hard
      drive. Use the CHKDSK stored on Stacker Disk # 2.

      SOLUTION

       - Make CHKDSK available to the Setup process.
       - Run the Stacker Setup program.

      Make CHKDSK available to the Setup process

       1.  Start the system with Stacker 4.0 for OS/2 & DOS disk # 1.
       2. Insert Stacker disk # 2 into its drive.
       3.  Type: COPY A:\TECH\CHKDSK.COM  C:\ <enter>

                                  Important
               Do NOT copy CHKDSK.COM to the C:\DOS directory!

       4. Insert Stacker disk # 1 into its drive.
       5. Ensure that the DR-DOS version of CHKDSK will run when
           called by the Setup process. Type: ED A:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
           <enter>.
       6. Inspect the PATH line in AUTOEXEC.BAT. It will look
           something like this:
           PATH=A:\;A:\DOSUTILS
       7. Add C:\ to the end of the path statement. The line will now
           look something like this:
           PATH=A:\;A:\DOSUTILS;C:\;
       8. Save the file and exit the ED text editor. Restart the
           system with the disk still in its drive.

      Run the Stacker Setup program

       1. Run the Stacker Setup in accordance with Chapter 1 of the
           Stacker for OS/2 & DOS User's Guide.
       2. After Setup is complete, go to the root directory of drive C
           and delete the DR-DOS CHKDSK.COM file.
