      STACKER NOTE STACKER NOTE
MODIFYING CONFIG.SYS WHEN OS/2 BOOT DRIVE IS AN IFS DRIVE
(Applies to Stacker for OS/2 & DOS ver 4)

      BACKGROUND

Stacker drives are set up by Stacker device drivers in the
CONFIG.SYS file on the boot drive. The Stacker Setup program
runs under DOS, so Setup recognizes only DOS drives. Stacker
can't be installed on drives using Installable File Systems (IFS)
      such as OS/2's HPFS.

Complete Procedure I if you installed Stacker on a drive that is
visible when you boot under OS/2. Complete Procedure II if
Stacker is installed on the primary partition of a FAT drive and
you start OS/2 from another primary partition on an IFS drive.

      PROCEDURE I

Start your computer under OS/2. Your new Stacker drives will be
      temporarily unavailable.

       1. From the Workplace Shell, open a DOS session by double-
           clicking the OS/2 System folder.
       2. Double-click the Command Prompt folder, then double-click
           the DOS Prompt icon.
       3. At a DOS prompt, change to the drive on which Stacker is
installed, then change to the STACKER directory. For
example, if Stacker copied its files to D:\STACKER, type
           the following:
           D: <Enter>
           CD STACKER <Enter>
           CONFIG <Enter>
The Stacker program CONFIG finds all STACVOL files and
makes the proper entries in the OS/2 startup drive's
           CONFIG.SYS file.
       4. When CONFIG prompts you to accept the changes, type Y.
       5. Type EXIT to return to the Workplace shell.
       6. Shut down the system normally.
       7. Restart your system under OS/2. Your new Stacker drives
           will be available.

      PROCEDURE II

Start your system and choose to boot under OS/2.

       1. From the Workplace Shell, open a DOS session by double-
           clicking the OS/2 System folder.
       2. Double-click the Command Prompt folder, then double-click
           the DOS Prompt icon.
       3. At a DOS prompt, create a STACKER directory by typing:
           MD C:\STACKER <Enter>
       4. To copy Stacker files to the new directory, do the
           following:
           A. Insert Stacker for OS/2 & DOS disk # 1 in drive A
           (or B) and type:
           COPY A:CONFIG.EXE C:\STACKER <Enter>
           B. Insert Stacker for OS/2 & DOS disk 2 in drive A (or
           B) and type:
           COPY A:STACKER.DMD C:\STACKER <Enter>
           COPY A:SSWAP2.SYS C:\STACKER <Enter>
           COPY A:FATMGR.EXE C:\STACKER <Enter>
           COPY A:SYNC2.EXE C:\STACKER <Enter>
       5. Configure Stacker by using the program CONFIG.EXE. Type:
           C:\STACKER\CONFIG /S=C:\STACKER <Enter>
       6. When CONFIG prompts you to accept the changes, type Y.
       7. Type EXIT to return to the Workplace Shell.
       8. Shut down the system normally.
       9. Restart your system and choose to boot under OS/2. Your new
           Stacker drives will be available.
