            MAKING A STACKER AWARE BOOT DISK WITH OS/2 2.11 (CSD)

      BACKGROUND

      After you install IBM's Corrective Service Diskettes (CSD), you
      need to make a new set of Stacker-aware boot disks. This is
      required in case you need to run OS/2's CHKDSK. However, the
      procedures in the Stacker User's Guide for making a Stacker-aware
      boot disk must be modified to take the CSD disks into account.
      Note: these procedures assume that the CSD has already been
      installed.

      SOLUTION

      When you installed the CSD, you used the PREPUP command to modify
      a copy of the CSD disk # 2. Use that disk in these steps.

       1.  Make a diskcopy of the CSD Stacker-aware disk # 2.
       2. Open the CONFIG.SYS on disk # 2 in an editor. Locate the
           lines:
                PROTSHELL=FS1.EXE
                SET OS2_SHELL=FSERVICE.EXE
       3. Change these lines to read:
                PROTSHELL=CMD.EXE
                SET OS2_SHELL=CMD.EXE
       4. Save the file and exit. The disk is now ready to be used.
       5. If you need to run CHKDSK from the A prompt, insert CSD disk
           1 into its drive and restart your system. When prompted for
           disk 2, insert the new disk you modified. Since CHKDSK is on
           disk 2, you may run it from there.
