====================
NovaBack for Windows
   Version 2.01
====================

Installing
----------

To install NovaBack for Windows, run the file "setup.exe" on the installation
disk.

Some files are compressed, so this install program must be run.

To install run the setup program from this disk.

   a:setup (if this disk is drive a:)

      or

   b:setup (if this disk is drive b:)

Reconfiguring
-------------
To reconfigure drivers, simply insert disk1 and run SETUP again.
However, to avoid installing files, you need to uncheck ALL three
options for file installation so that ) bytes get installed. This
will bypass all file installation procedures and directly access the
configuration portion of the SETUP program.
Be sure when initially specifying the install path that you install
to the SAME directory as previously used. If you fail to do this
then you may have to edit the windows\system.ini [Enh386] group
to ensure that there are no references to the [old-path]\dcvxd.386 driver.

New Features
------------

* All new full featured GUI interface.

* Global include/exclude of files.

* Editing of backup procedure files.

* Dr. Tape - tape diagnostic utility.

* Optional backup and system file totals.

* Virtual tape drives (lets you name a tape drive configuration).

* and much, much more...

INI Files
---------

NovaBack uses INI files to save program configuration in between
sessions. You should never have to use these files except for in the
following special cases:

CD-ROM DRIVES and REMOVABLE MEDIA:

By default NovaBack does not present removable media devices (it will
never present the floppy drives A: or B:). If you want NovaBack to
present CD-ROM drives and other media we detect as removable, make the
following change in "novaback.ini":

    ignore removable media = OFF

If you do not have a "novaback.ini" choose the Options/Save from the
menu.

Device Drivers
--------------
If you had an Adaptec SCSI controller in your computer system and have
installed WINASPI.DLL file (ships with EZ-SCSI), the install will
assume that support for ASPI buffering has already been accounted for.
If you have removed this driver/controller, it will be necessary to add
a line to your CONFIG.SYS that reads:

    DEVICE=c:\pathname\NASPIBUF.SYS /S5000

where c: represents your drive name and pathname represents the
location of Novaback for Windows. This driver must be used in
conjunction with the ASPI driver supplied by your SCSI controller
manufacture. Failure to complete this action will cause Novaback to be
unable to properly locate and work with your ASPI manager.

NOVELL NETWARE
--------------
There are some known issues when using VLM workstation drivers.
Due to the possible occurance of problems with this driver, we STRONGLY
recommend that you use NETX instead of VLMs.

NOTE: VLMs are Workstation Requesters which ship with Netware 3.12
and 4.0x. They are generally required for accessing Netware Directories
Services (NDS), which can only be backed with our Netware Loadable Module
(NLM) product at this time.

Switching to NETX requires that you change the lastdrive statement in your
CONFIG.SYS from lastdrive=z to whatever your last logical workstation drive
is (example: lastdrive=e). Also modify your NET.CFG file in your requester
directory such that all comments related to VLM including first network
drive are proceeded by a semi-colon. VLM related items are generally listed
under DOS REQUESTOR. And finally, you will have to change the STARTNET.BAT
file such that the line "VLM" is changed to "NETX". All of the fore
mentioned items may be changed using any standard DOS editor such as EDIT or
EDLIN.
