2) The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test
---------------------------------

When SuperJAM! Jr. is run for the first time, it gives you the option
of running the Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test before continuing. It is
strongly recommended that you run this test in order to eliminate
any possible sound problems which may occur.

The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test is a series of procedures which
determine what sound device configuration is best suited for use
with your system. You can run these diagnostics at any time by
selecting Test my sound card or MIDI setup... from SuperJAM! Jr.'s
Help menu. This test gives you a quick and easy way to configure
your sound device for use with SuperJAM! Jr..

The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test asks you a series of questions while
attempting to play music using the available sound sources. Your
answers to these questions help SuperJAM! Jr. to recognize what type of
sound card or MIDI instrument you have in order to insure that the
music always plays correctly on it.

If you change your system configuration in a way which may affect
SuperJAM! Jr., the program detects this and runs the Sound Card/MIDI
Setup Test again, automatically.

3) Upgrading to the full-fledged SuperJAM!
---------------------------------------

SuperJAM! Jr. is a cut down version of the full-fledged SuperJAM!.
We designed SuperJAM! Jr. so you could enjoy a great deal of the power
and creativity of the complete SuperJAM!. However, as enjoyable as you
may find SuperJAM! Jr. to be, you'll be amazed by the power and
creativity of the real SuperJAM! product! In addition to all of
SuperJAM! Jr.'s features, the full-fledged SuperJAM! includes:

- 30 styles.

- 30 section demos.

- Unlimited style access. The full-fledged SuperJAM! allows you to
install any number of styles in the Style Palette. In addition to the
31 styles included with the full-fledged SuperJAM!, you can load any of
the 60+ styles in the SuperJAM! Power Series style collections (plenty
more on the way...)

- Style creation, editing, and saving. Design your own styles with the
full-fledged SuperJAM!'s sophisticated style creation tools. For example,
all SuperJAM! Jr. styles were created within the full-fledged SuperJAM!.
Edit existing styles or build new styles from scratch. Discover how
remarkably easy it is to create your own styles.

- Chord creation, editing, and saving. Design your own chords in the full-
fledged SuperJAM!'s Chord window. Interactive chord design allows you to
hear the chord performed in a particular style as you add and remove notes
from it. Configure the Chord Palette with just the chords you wish to use.

- MIDI File saving. Save your SuperJAM! compositions as standard MIDI
files. Almost all music applications, including notation and sequencing
programs, as well as multi-media presentation packages, read MIDI files
created with SuperJAM!.

- Eas-O-Matic MusicMaker. Tap the keys in the Keyboard window's Eas-O-Matic
feature to automatically choose chords and generate a melody. Despite its
whimsical name, the Eas-O-Matic MusicMaker is remarkably effective and
educational, as well as entertaining.

- Snapshot Recording and Editing. The Snapshot feature records the SuperJAM!
performance into the Snapshot Grid. Once in the Grid, edit the music with a
complete set of tools including options to enter, drag, change, erase, and
duplicate notes. The Snapshot Grid gives you complete control over the
performance. Once you've created a Snapshot, you can decide where in the
song the SuperJAM! band plays live and where it performs from the edited music
in the Snapshot Grid.

- Pattern Grid Editor. Edit your Style Patterns graphically in the interactive,
looping Pattern Grid Editor.

- SuperJAM! Jr. File Compatibility. Load your SuperJAM! Jr. compositions into
the full-fledged SuperJAM!.

4) How SuperJAM! Jr. Installs Itself
------------------------------------

The SuperJAM! Jr. Setup program does very little in the way of
modifying your current Windows environment. The Setup program
adds one simple line to your Win.ini file:

sjm=C:\sjamjr\sjamjr.exe ^.sjm

In addition, the Setup program asks you to specify a directory
where it will then install SuperJAM! Jr. and the following
associated subdirectories:

- The CHANGES subdirectory contains chord changes that can be
  loaded into sections.
- The DRUMMAPS subdirectory contains some additional drum maps.
- The PTCHMAPS subdirectory contains some additional patch lists.
- The SECTIONS subdirectory contains a demo for each style.
- The SONGS subdirectory contains a demo song.
- The STYLES subdirectory contains the SuperJAM! Jr. styles.

5) Latest Features
------------------

In addition to the features listed and described in the
SuperJAM! Jr. User Guide, you'll find several new improvements in
this version:

- You can now use the Pencil in conjuction with the Keyboard
window to add embellishments and grooves to your sections, while
the Section window plays. Likewise, you can use the Eraser to
delete embellishments and grooves from your sections in the same
  manner.

- The Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test (see above) has been added.

- The Global Options dialog has been expanded to include an
option to set the drum MIDI channel. Some sound cards
perform MIDI drums on MIDI channel 10, while others perform
on MIDI channel 16. Set SuperJAM! to use the proper channel
by selecting "Always use MIDI Channel 10," "Always Use
MIDI Channel 16," or "Use Band Window Setting." The
first two options force all drums to go to their respective
MIDI Channels, while the third allows the MIDI Channel to
be set from within the Band window. If you're not certain
which option to choose, run the Sound Card/MIDI Setup Test
by selecting "Test my sound card or MIDI setup" from the
Help menu. This helps you choose the proper drum channel.

- You can now drag and drop chords from the chord palette onto the
  Keyboard window.
