Welcome to "3D Landscape" version 1.0 from Books That Work!

In this product, we hope we've created a tool that will help you
make your home and yard more comfortable, attractive and valuable
than ever before. We wish you great success with this program.

In "3D Landscape," we've made every effort to build a powerful
product that's also easy to use. Due to the complex and ever-changing
nature of computer technology, however, you may encounter some
complications in running the program on your system. We've outlined
potential difficulties and recommended solutions below. We also offer
a few tips to help you get the most out of your new software.

GENERAL ISSUES

With its many advanced features, "3D Landscape" will require more
memory than some computers can provide. If your hardware runs short
of memory, you may notice one or more of these symptoms:
* Parts of the application do not start or display.
* The display shows an inappropriate color scheme.
* Print-outs appear as if created on a typewriter.
* Photographs do not load with the rest of the application.
* The computer stops responding to keyboard or mouse commands.

If you encounter such difficulties, several techniques can help you
overcome memory shortfalls.
* Close other applications -- including screen savers and other
utilities -- while running "3D Landscape." Please note that some
programs may be started automatically when you launch Windows.
You'll find these in your Windows Startup group.
* Increase the size of your virtual memory. You can control this from
the Windows Control Panel in 386 Enhanced Mode.
* Within 3D Landscape itself, while using the How-To Guide or viewing
advertisements, exit the Designer. While working with the Designer,
exit all advertisements and close the How-To Guide. To close the How-To
Guide, double-click the rectangular box in the upper left corner of its
initial screen.
* Restart Windows. This clears up many difficulties, especially after
an error message has been displayed.
* Reboot your computer.
* Increase the amount of random access memory in your system. "3D
Landscape" requires 4 MB of RAM. Its performance will be enhanced if
you have 8 MB.

"3D Landscape" was designed to help you visualize the Landscape of your
dreams in 256 colors or more. If your display doesn't look quite right,
the problem may lie in your display driver. Please try an alternative
display resolution or color depth. You can change these settings in the
Windows Setup program. Some displays also include a special program to
help you switch resolutions. If your display driver is a problem, the
manufacturer may be able to provide you with an updated version.

"3D Landscape" was designed to run on Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher.
If you use OS/2 rather than Windows, you may encounter difficulties
in running this application.

This program will not only help you design your landscape, but also
estimate the materials you'll need to build it. Please bear in mind,
however, that these are estimates only. In buying concrete, for
example, we encourage you to buy 10% more than the estimated amount.
Think of this as a sort of insurance. It would be a shame to run short
while you're building a project.

DESIGNER

As you place objects into your landscape, you may notice that some are
automatically labeled, while others are not. Actually, the software
will automatically label any object into which a label will fit at your
current "zoom" level or magnification. "3D Landscape" will even display
the name of a tree -- rather than simply the word "tree" -- if its image
becomes large enough.

Downspouts do not automatically change size when you revise the height of
your house. Windows and doors do not account for slope underneath the house.
Their vertical position on the house is relative to zero feet (as defined in
slope mode), not the base of the house.

HOW-TO GUIDE

When browsing through the How-To Guide, please click only once on all
buttons and hyperlinks. It is not necessary to double-click on these
items. In fact, if you double-click, the program may accidentally trigger
another event, such as a jump to another page.

Do not run more than one copy of the How-To Guide simultaneously.
Doing so may cause problems due to system memory constraints.

When printing pages of the How-To Guide, you may see extraneous and
extended elements of the "book" image. This should not obstruct the text
or graphics on the page.

If your display uses large fonts, you may see a slight break in the
on-screen display of the "book" image.

Estimators do not print.

ONLINE HELP

Before opening "3D Landscape's" online Help, please close all other
help files. If another application's help file is open when you try to
access help in "3D Landscape," the program will post a message reading
"Can't open help file."
