Before I begin, let me tell you that I have nothing to do
with S3 or IBM. I just spent a frustrating 3 weeks trying
to get my S3 to work with OS/2, and thought I would
save others similar heartache. Also, I have not seen
version 2.5 of the S3 drivers anywhere on the internet, so
here they are.

I know these drivers work with Jaton's JAX8241 S3805
video card. I cannot vouch for any others. I have
changed the s3inst.cmd file a bit under suggestion from
another. S3 tries to load new versions of unpack.exe
and unpack2.exe. These "new" versions are actually
older than the ones that come with warp, and apparently
they caused some problems on this guy's machine. I did
have some problems, but I'm not sure if they stemmed
from that... If you have any trouble, you might want to
try using S3's unpack files.

The installation instructions that come with this driver
are virtually non-existant, and the process, while trivial,
is far from obvious. Here are step by step instructions:

Unzip s3os2d1.zip and s3os2d2.zip onto two disks and
label them S3 DRV1 and S3 DRV2 respectively.

From an OS/2 window, run 's3inst a: c:' (replacing your
appropriate drive letters.)

You will be asked to press any key to continue, and then
after some disk activity you will be asked to insert
disk 2. Do this and press any key.

You will see some error messages, and then some
instructions. Ignore the error messages. (If you look
at the file called display.log in the install subdirectory,
you will see more errors. These can be ignored as well.
Nice user friendly install, huh?)

Reboot OS/2.

Run 'Display Driver Install' which is located in the System
Setup folder.

Choose Primary Display at the next prompt.

You will then be shown the familar "Choose Primary
Display Driver" dialog box. It looks like the system
is suggesting you choose SVGA. Don't! If you scroll
all the way to the top, you will see a new driver called
32 Bit S3 Display Drivers v2.5. Choose that one.

Follow the rest of the instructions, and you should be
all set.

In case you are curious, the READMES3.DOC is in Microsoft
Word for Windows 6.0 format. Don't ask me why. It
doesn't really say much of interest, anyway. And it
certainly doesn't tell you how to install this beast.
