The Ultimate Final Fantasy 3 Strategy Guide... Version 3.0.

By popular demand, here is the third update to that Final Fantasy 3 file that
you all downloaded!

The second version (FF3FAQ20.TXT) can be obtained through AOL.
The original (called FF3STUFF.TXT) can still be located on the
Video Games section of AOL.

Note: Tough battle. There is only one thing that can hurt your opponent.

Okay. Here are some hints that I know about FF3.

Note: This is mostly about the World of Ruin, which you don't get into
later in the game. So if you don't want to ruin some surprises, don't
read this.

As soon as you get to the World of Ruin, you have an Airship, and you have
Sabin in your party, head to location 22 on your included map (Duncan's
house). Sabin will get the all-powerful 'Bum Rush'. 'Nuff said.
Once you get Locke the thief (I know... Treasure hunter...), put him in
your party, and head to location 18 (Narshe). Locke can unlock the doors
in the town. Go inside the weapons shop to either get the all-powerful
Ragnarok (sword), or the Esper Ragnarok. Personally, I took the sword.
Bad move... Now, you don't have to pay 100,000 to one of the guys in the
Fantics Tower to find out that information!
When you go to location 19 (Triangle Island), there is a monster that lives
there, find him (fight) and let yourself get sucked into it (ie. LOSE).
This might take a bit, so just have your characters wait. There is
a large dungeon there, and you can find the hidden character, Gogo,
one of the two secret characters! His ability is to mimic ANY move that
any character is doing just before he uses his mimic power. And that
includes: Casting spells, doing blitzes, copying rages, using items (!!),
whatever!
And one other note about Gogo. When you get him/her/it, go to the status
screen of him. You notice you have an arrow next to his Mimic power. You
can move that cursor and select what powers you want him to do! Examples
are: Magic, Items, Tools, Blitz, Runic, Fight, etc... You only have three
slots to use though. And you can't replace the Mimic function. Note:
Gogo's spells are those that your entire party (the one you are currently
using) has availiable. Same thing with the Blitzes, and the Swordtech.
To find the other secret character, do the following: In the world of ruin,
you need to get Locke and go enter Narshe (18). Go to the left side of
town and enter the secret passage (remember back at the beginning of the
game?). Locke can open a locked door somewhere and you will find Mog
somewhere in the dungeon behind the secret passage. Now with Mog in your
party, go through the mines that you went through at the beginning of
the game. Walk through the ice-field that you fought your first
group-battle over. In there is a dragon to fight. Keep going up the
mountain until you reach the spot where the Esper was. At the top of
the screen, you can drop down to the lower levels of the mine. You find
an Esper in a bone structure, and you fight a boss (which is the secret
character). Beat him. Now some storyline thing will happen (can't you
tell I haven't done this yet??) with Mog. The other secret character
can now join your party. Equip the Rage Ring on him. Understandable enough?
To do anything in location 21 (Doma castle), you need to take someone's
advice: Don't sleep in the castle! Well, it doesn't do anything important
unless you have the person who used to live there (remember Cyan?)...
'Nuff said.
Hints about beating the boss that resides in Doma Castle: By demand,
here is a quick hint for defeating the 3 (stooges??). Fight and kill
the middle guy (the one who flies). He can cast Life and Reflect, so
once he goes, the rest of them will follow (since he casts Life on his
dead party members).
Also, about location 23 (The Ancient Castle). There is actually something
there. The map isn't wrong (like I thought it was). You just need to use
Figaro Castle's underground transportation a second time. And there it is.
And one important thing about location 20 (Fanatics Tower). Don't even
think about entering unless you have two important spells, and one Esper.
You NEED Osmose (drains MP), and Life 3 (brings you back from the dead).
And the Esper Siren (casts an almost 100% success Mute spell on all
opponents). The Esper is used on all battles, and then you can take your
time with the opponents (since they can only cast spells too...). Drain
MP as needed. Note: You can't run away from any battles (except from the
barrels). And about that boss in the tower: If you want to keep that Gem
Box (and I really do), put it on ASAP on your person with the most
offensive spells, and go fight the boss afterwards. Have someone cast
Life 3 on everyone (yes, it does take a while, but it is required), and
have the person with the Gem Box cast any spell you want. Note: The boss
has a shield that protects him from all attacks except for one, and that
one weakness changes every time he glows. Cast Osmose whenever you need
MP (he only has 50,000 of it...), and keep casting. This boss does take
a very long time (I clocked 30+ minutes when I played...), but the Gem
Box is worth it! Trust me!
Or a simple hint about the Fanatics Tower: There are 5 (6?) floors.
The difficulty goes up as you go higher. At the boss, cast Ultima (find it
in Narshe, instead of the Ragnaork). Your letters told me that it works
much better. In fact, the spell Ultima does around 4000-9999 points of
damage on everyone! Or you can cast Berserk on him. He will be unable
to change his magic shield. Then you can use Scan to determine his
weakness and then waste him.
About the Opera House (location 25), buy some relics that give you the
power to float. Or keep casting group float spells, since the Dragon that
resides there uses Quake and Dispel on your party.
At location 23 (The Ancient Castle), you can also find another Esper and
a Dragon. At the 'Ancient Castle' (where you see a little clip of flashback), go to the thrones. From the Queens throne, walk five steps down, and press 'A'. This opens a secret passage in a bookcase somewhere, where you can fight that Dragon and get the Raiden Esper.
To get into Eboshi Rock (location 24), you need to do a few things. First
is to get Relm. In the Cave of the Velt (13), if you follow the dungeon
around, you find Relm, injured on the floor. Press 'A' over her, and you
automatically take her to Thamasa (14), where she spends some time in bed.
Talk to everyone in the town (and Relm), and then use the 1 GP inn. When
you wake up, go to Relm. You'll see that she is missing. Talk to the
townspeople to get information on where she is. Now go find her (I'll
let you figure that out).
Note: If you did the sequence to get Shadow in the Dark World, you will
find Shadow lying on the ground instead of Relm. Relm is safe and in Jidoor.
Once you have Relm back, put her in your party and go to Fanatics Tower (20).
Go talk to Strago. Now you have him to select as a partymember also! Now
head back to Thamasa (14). Storyline again, and then you have access to
Eboshi Rock. Note: Strago doesn't have to be the only member there (like
the game suggests). In fact, you need backup...
Note: You can find some Espers in the auction house (as well as some
Relics, and some other useless stuff) at Jidoor (16, World of Ruin only).
The townspeople who talk about some creature in the sky isn't Terra, isn't
the Airship, it a Doom Gaze... To put it simply, he is a powerful creature
that does lots of damage. Just remember: If you lose, DON'T reset it!!
He can't regenerate HP between battles! When you kill him, you get the
Bahamut Esper. Great Esper. And you only find him when you are on the
Airship in the World of Ruin.
A great Experience hint at the World of Ruin: Occasinally when fighting
the T-Rexes and other monsters, you can find Imp weapons. Now these
weapons don't work at all unless you are Imped (hence the name). But you
can bet them (the Imp Halberd) at the Colosseum and eventually you will
get Exp. Eggs. Get enough of them and raise your Exp greatly!
Note: At any time you wish you can enter Kefka's Tower (26). You might
want all of the characters though... Just press the land button 'B' when
you are over it.
You can see Gau's dad (goofy) if you put him in your party and talk to
the old man (not on map, about NNE from Doma Castle). Laughs only.
Massave damage hint: Once you find the Genji Glove and the Offering (both
relics), equip them both on the same person! Now when you put a weapon
in both hands, that character will attack a whopping 8 (eight!) times!
Once you leave Cid in the World of Ruin, you can come back later and
get an Esper. It's on the beach. Location 1 if you don't remember.

And in case you wanted to know, I know very few secrets or hints about
the World of Balance. Sorry. Nothing seems that difficult there.
Other than this:

Since in the game you need lots of power and MP to get your Espers
stronger, go into the beginning of the Phantom Forest (11). The monster(s)
there give you 3 points almost constantly.
And in the Balanced World, if you send letters for the injured soldier
about 5 or 6 times he will reward you with Tintinabar. Great item for
a few minutes of your time.
Also early in the game, you can get ahold of the powerful Genji Glove.
At the Returners Hideout, when Banon askes Terra to join, say 'no'.
Talk to a soldier in the room and you will recieve the Genji Glove.

Well folks, here is a game glitch (or error in your favor...):
To kill almost ANY enemy (and bosses, and the Dragons), cast Vanish on
the enemy. Then cast an instant death spell (Doom, X-Zone, etc.) and no
more enemy! Unfortunately it doesn't work on Kefka... Darn.

By the way, remember something in the other FF? That the dead can be
killed with Life potions? Well, not only that, but use a Fenix Down on
the Phantom Train (boss). He's dead (again!).

Okay. Here is a rumor that I heard. If it is false, then don't blame me,
since I haven't done it myself:
When you get Locke in the Dark World, you take him to Narshe. In one of
the buildings there is a house up the stairs to the right of the relics
store. In the house there is an old man who gives you a cursed shield.
That part is all true.
But my rumor mill says that if you equip the cursed shield and fight lots
of battles (200+) then the shield is supposed to turn into the Paladin's
Shield.
If none of that was true, please tell me so I can erase it. I happen to
like putting in truthful information in my FAQ. Sorry for the inconvience.

On a lighter note, for those who wanted a walkthrough for the final part
of the game, or just needed help on finding and beating everything in
Kefka's Tower (26), thanks to a letter, you now have it:
The first time you go Make on group of your strongest people in the third
slot. Put the rest of the people in any slot because it doesn't matter you
won't have to move them anywhere. Move the third group through the tower, It
is very straight forward, until you reach a large machine and it gives you
the boss battle music. Use quick and Ultima until it is dead. Cast warp or
use a warp stone to leave. I recomend saving your progress often. The Next
time you go, Put the strong party as group 2. Use Mogs party as group one,
and Another party, I used CYAN< SABIN< GOGO< AND UMARO<, as the third party.
Get through the maze with party 3 first. Make sure to activate the glowing
chest to make the bridge outside full again around half way down. Get to the
end and step on the switch and change groups. Then go through with the
strong party and get to the end and step on the switch. DON'T FORGET TO HIT
THE SWITHCH IN A ROOM ON THE RIGHT ABOUT HALFWAY DOWN OUTSIDE TO MAKE THE
BRIDGE COME ACROSS. Get Mogs party to the end. Go inside the Metal Part, You
should be able to see all three groups at this time. and go to the left. Push
the 4t boulder over the side and let the next party inside. Go to the right
with them and push the 4t boulder over to get the strong party inside. Push
all 3 switches at once on the inside to make the path go forward to fight the
GUARDIAN. He is a cake walk. (I forgot to mention that the Gem Box is a BIG
help because it allows you to cast twice as many Ultimas at once.) Go forward
Until you fight the first statue. Once you destroy it Leave, Save then
Return. Make The strong group Group number One for the next two trips, Make
Mogs group number two and make another party, group 3. Make you way through
the maze again the same way as before except with different groups. ( Another
thing I forgot, Use the strong group to fight all of the Dragons and the ATMA
just leave and return if you get lost because the Boss Monsters don't reset.)
Merton Sucks as a spell!!!!! Once you get to the Metal Place Again, Go a
different way with the strong party and beat all of the statues. Once you do
so save and stand on the three new switches past the statues. This takes you
to Kefka. When they ask for a party order put the stongest in the front and
down the line like that. There are three major Parts before Kefka, Just use
Quick and blast them with Ultima over and over. If someone dies and the part
changes a new character will be in their place. With Kefka, Do not try to use
stratagy, Just use Quick and Ultima, you need to cast quick again when the
Part changes so watch out. Keep blasting until he is gone.

And thanks to SethHardy, I have a large monster list to include in the FAQ:
Sorry about how it doesn't fit on a text screen.

FINAL FANTASY III MONSTER LIST v1.0
-----------------------------------
This is a monster list for the game Final Fantasy III.

This is what it contains:

MONSTER NAME-The name of the monster as it appears in the game.
MONSTER'S LEVEL-Useful for using spells that pertain to levels.
MONSTER'S HP-How many Hit Points the monster has.
MONSTER'S MP-How many Magic Points the monster has.
MONSTER'S WEAK POINTS-What types of damage the monster is particulary
vulnerable to.
MONSTER'S ITEMS-What you can get from the monster
(One of two ways: By using Locke's steal ability OR by killing the monster.)
MONSTER'S EXPERIENCE-How much experience you get from the monster (Total)
MONSTER'S GP-How many Gold Pieces you get from the monster.

This list was made by Seth Hardy (SethHardy@aol.com). It can be freely
distributed, as long as:
1.This UNALTERED cover sheet is included with it,
2.I get full credit for it, and
3.It is not sold for profit. I made this sheet to help everybody, not just
whoever has a spare dollar or two.

I hope this can help everybody. I have worked long and hard on this sheet,
hoping that everybody can make good use of it.

This sheet is not yet 100% complete. There are many blank places on the list,
for various reasons: (Not having Locke/having Locke and not being able
to steal/not having anyone who knows SCAN/etc.)
If anybody finds any information that is not on this list, PLEASE SEND
IT TO ME!!!!! I will immediately put it on my list and after getting
enough additions, I will upload the newest revision.

I would like to thank Dr.Gamewiz on AOL for encouraging me enough to
finally get started on this, because I was putting making it off for
quite a while. Because of his encouragement, I finally got started and
here it is!!!!

Well, enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any comments/ideas/input, just EMail me.

22 108C-EF03 + 108C-E4A3 All items in shops are free--SWITCH OFF
TO SELL ITEMS FOR GP
27 DDA4-8767 Party always has sprint shoes
31 ED30-E944 'Tonic' gives 240 HP
32 3CB8-5DAE Most items can be used infinitely--NOT IN BATTLE
MODE--SWITCH OFF TO EXIT MENU SCREEN
AA94-E7D8....This code will make the enemy give you weapons, items, and
armory. (This code is constant)
AA90-74DD....Able to walk through walls...not yeet perfected....only certain
directions....not fully tested either.
AA94-EFO8....Makes the enemy give you items/weapons/armory. (This code is
not constant, it's at random)
DC9C-E4D8.....Max out your GPs.
AA9D-54D8...The battle sequence is weird..
AA9B-E768...All relics equiped..all of it.. Not tested much may freez
up...even the cursed is equiped...Just look DO NOT SAVE YOUR GAME...'cause
your statistic it whacked...
AA93-54D8....This one I (The author of the GG files) just created (10/28),
this will make your EXP decrease... Yeah it sound bad.... but when you
hit 0 (zero) you will max out your levels...TIP equipt an esper so your
statictcs will also go up... You will learn Ultima, Meteron, and
others (for Terra)
A29D-54D8 In battle sequence you get super powers (at random). You can
inflict major damage and get "Heal Bear" to recover hit-points. People who
cannot use spells suddenly use highly powerful spells. Players tend to go
out of turn and some spells repeat over and over. You always win the battle.
It's a good idea to save frequently with this one.
AA94-E7D8+AA94-EF08 Makes the defeated enemy give you multiple, powerful
weapons, armor and multiple relics and potions. You will get 7 excalibur
swords that you can sell. I have fought weak enemies repeatedly and gotee
99 excaliburs or 99 Hero Rings or good armor. After I've outfitted my party
I have sold the rest and the gold has added up! I am very early in the game
and have 200,000 golds!
AD90-74DD Able to walk off screen. If you get stuck, turn off Genie, get
out and turn it back on. Sometimes this code prevents you from entering a
village, just turn off the GG and enter, then reactivate it.
One good code is...
AA94-EF08+AA94-E4D8....This code will give your party a chance to obtain the
Illumnia Sword through an enemy...Also, since it rarely happens..add
AA95-EFA8...this will randomly give you more.... the cycle of this code just
goes on..so turn the genie power off.....And if your lucky you might get
about 90...
Thanks to the person who uploaded those Game Genie codes.

And one final Game Genie code:
If you use the game genie code AA93-54D8( raises your level to 99 after you
battle a monster), Terra will learn Ultima Without any Espers.

Questions that I was asked:

What is that clock puzzle answer?
Well, in the town of Zozo, in the room where the clock that needs resetting,
the time that needs to be put in is: 6:10:50! For your reward of solving
the puzzle, you get Edgar's Chainsaw (use with Tools command)!
I have a hard time finding the Gem Box relic.
Well, the relic is located at the very top of the Fanatics Tower (20).
How do I use it once I get it?
The Gem Box is a relic, so you put it on any magic-user in your party.
You now have the ability to cast two spells a round (and you have to).
Cast the first one, and then the spell choice box comes up again.
 Where is the Phoenix Esper?
The Phoenix Esper is in the Phoenix Cave (17). Search around, you will
find it.
How do I find Shadow in the World of Ruin?
Well, if you are in the World of Ruin already, its too late. But to get
him, do this. At the final part of the Light World, where you are jumping
back on your airship, you need to select 'wait'. Then try to jump off
again and select 'Wait for Shadow'. At about 5 seconds left, Shadow
will come. Once in the World of Ruin, you go to The Cave in the
Velt (13). You will rescue Shadow there. Then get the Striker Knife
and go to the Colosseum (15) and wager the Striker Knife. You will
then fight Shadow. If you win, you get him in your party.
Also, there are several story-line places that you can sleep
in (The Dark world). Nikeah, South Figaro, Colosseum, and Jidor. I
don't know if you need Shadow or not to get them, but it does show
some interesting sequences about Shadow's life.
 Where is Locke?
Well, Locke is at the end of the Phoenix Cave.
Just where are all of the Dragons on the World of Ruin?
Thanks to one letter I have the answer to that.
1) In Zoro (12), through the rusted door.
2) Through Narshe (18), almost to the Esper on the top of the mountain.
3) On the stage in the Opera (25).
4) In the Phoenix Cave (17).
5) In the Fanatics Tower (20)
6) In the Ancient Castle (23). Read above for information.
7+8) In Kefka's Tower (26)
How do I win at the Colosseum? The enemy keeps sneezing on me!
Well, wager a different item. Most items are too cheap for the game to
take, so it brings on old sneezer. At least you don't lose the item...
Why can you only take the sword or the esper in Narshe (18)?
Well, I guess that the game doesn't want you to have two very powerful
items/spells.
What are the powers of the sword Ragnarok?
Well, it is a powerful sword that takes 10 MP from you each time you hit
to do a critical hit on your opponent. A powerful weapon in the right
hands. Well, not really. Ultima is MUCH stronger...
How do I get Mog in the World of Balance?
Easy. Sometime during the game, before you head to the World of Ruin (I
don't remember), you can go back to Narshe (1) and some townspeople
say something about a thief getting loose. Go all the way to the right
side of the screen (going up stairs) and head downword. There is a
building there that has lots of treasure in it. The thief is there. Go
follow him through the mines and such, until you get to the spot where
the Esper is/was. The thief has Mog. Wait like he says so, and when you
get a chance to save one of them, go to Mog. The thief has a Gold Hairpin
if you are interested, but you can only save one of them.
 Where is the Crusader Esper?
You get it after you fight the Dragon at the Ancient Castle (23) in
the World of Ruin. But it might also be found when you beat all of the
Dragons.
Where is the Coin Toss Relic?
That Relic is located near the beginning of the Sealed Gate (25 on the World
of Balance). In the room where the platforms move around (fire in the
background).
Where is the Air Anchor (not by wagering?)
The Air Anchor is found in the Fanatic's Tower (20). In the first
treasure room, step to the right of the chest and press A. Exit the
room and you will find that a new room has opened up. Inside is the
Air Anchor.
How do I easily learn Strago's Lore spells?
Easy. Use Relm to control the monsters and have them use the special
attack that they have on Strago. As long as he doesn't die, you have
the spell.
 Just where is the Striker?
In the Cave in the Velt (13) on the Dark Side, it is in a treasure chest.
 How do I beat WrekSoul?
If you don't have X-Zone, use Ice Rods against him.

Well, since I gave out so much information, maybe you all could help me.
I beat the game at 40 hours, 16 minutes. But I still could use some
help (still).

Anyone have any more things that you can get in the Colosseum?
Can someone (if they want) post a walkthrough for either this game or just
the Phoenix Cave (17, World of Ruin)? Being a full-time college student,
I just don't have the time to do it (sorry to who wanted it).

If anyone has the answers to those questions, or have any comments or
things that they wish to put into this file, please write to me on AOL
or otherwise. I'll give you credit in my next release of this file (if
need be). I'm known on AOL as Timothy646, and through the Internet I'm
called Timothy646@AOL.com

Where exactly did I get some of my hints? Mostly from me, but my new
question/answer section was asked by a few, and E-mail gave me the rest.
Thanks for all of you who wrote back. And who did what? Well, here is a

If that isn't everybody, or I got some information incorrect (spelling,
etc...), please nicely notify me of my mistake, and I'll change it on
my next revision (if needed). Note: There were LOTS of letters from
everyone. More infact than I could include. I got so many letters,
that I could write a FAQ about that! So I'm sorry if I didn't get
everyone that wrote to me.

And now for the copyright information...

All uses of Final Fantasy 3, characters in the game, items, spells, and

I'm not a lawyer, so I hope that the companies that read this like how
