I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Polycystic Kidney Disease

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Approximately 500,000 people in the United States have Autosomal Dominant
Polycystic Kidney Disease (ADPKD) an inherited disease that results in the
formation of blister like outpouchings in the kidney. This causes kidney
function to decrease in a slowly progressive manner that often leads to kidney
failure. About 60 to 70 percent of individuals with the disease also develop
hypertension. Other organs may also be affected. The Polycystic Kidney
Research Foundation was started by Joseph Bruening in 1982 in Kansas City as a
not-for-profit research and educational organization to support basic research
into the cause, cure and treatment of PKD. They have developed a most
interesting brochure called "Q&A on PKD" which provides a wealth of
information about the disease in easy to understand question and answer
format. And the new 1991 edition is just off the press and ready for
distribution to all who are interested. You can obtain you copy without
charge by calling the toll free number 1-800-PKDCURE, or by sending your
request to PKR Foundation, Dept. FP, 922 Walnut Street, Suite 411, Kansas
City MO 64106. A post card will do the job.
