I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: The Child Who Stutters

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The title makes this a perfect offering for the season when school starts
up again, and we all get back to the process of learning just a bit more about
ourselves and the wonderful world we live in. And though it is directed to
teachers, the brochure "The Child Who Stutters at School: Notes to the
Teacher" makes great reading for anyone interested in the problem of
stuttering. And that makes it important for many people, as there are over
three million Americans who stutter. Handling a child who begins to stutter
in class can pose many problems for teachers and teacher aids. Should they
call on the child in class or will that only make the problem worse? How
should they handle teasing by other children? What should they do about
reading aloud? This new brochure answers these and many other similar
questions and is obtainable without charge from the Speech Foundation of
America, P.O. Box 11749, Memphis TN 38111, or you can get your copy by calling
the toll free number 1-800-992-9392. The American Speech Foundation is a
forty year old non-profit charitable organization dedicated solely to the
prevention of stuttering in children, and the improvement of treatment for
adults.
