I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Sleep Better

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you spent part of last night staring at your darkened bedroom ceiling
because you just couldn't get to sleep, you are part of a growing problem that
may be affecting nearly half of all adults and teenagers and costing employers
an estimated $70 billion each year in medical costs, industrial accident and
lost productivity. You can't "bank" sleep according to sleep researchers, to
make up for sleep you expect to lose, and lack of sleep can cause your
alertness to diminish for several days. The Better Sleep Council has
published a most informative 21 page booklet which you can obtain by sending a
stamped self addressed business envelope to "Sleep Better, Live Better Guide",
Dept D. Box 13, Washington, D.C. 20044. The booklet is chock full of details
about sleep, what happens to you and your body during sleep, and ten important
tips that may help you sleep better. The one I like best is to set aside a
"worry time" early in the evening so you won't have to review those bad
thoughts while trying to get started with your much needed night's rest.
There are even some clues to, "snooze foods" which are fine for before bed
snacks. Would you believe English Muffins and bananas?
