I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Adolescent Depression and Suicide

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My attention was jerked away from our evening meal last night as I heard
a report on network news of a cluster or group of teen age suicides in Little
Rock, Arkansas. The memory of the emotional hurt and the bewilderment that
occurred in my own community when we suffered a similar group of tragedies
made these events even more painful. But adolescent suicide is preventable
when caring family and friends listen attentively to these youngsters, share
feelings, and are honest about their concern. There is an excellent booklet
published by the American Academy of Pediatrics that is most helpful in this
situation. It is called "Surviving: Coping with Adolescent Depression and
Suicide" And you can obtain your free copy by sending your request and a
stamped self addressed envelope to the: American Academy of Pediatrics, Dept.
C., 141 Northwest Point Blvd., P.O. Box 927, Elk Grove Village, IL 60009.
Everyone can profit from reading the thoughtful advice and counsel it
contains.
