I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Breast Cancer

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The statistics may be frightening, for one out of every eleven women will
develop breast cancer during her lifetime, but early detection is the key to
successful treatment. This year, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month will
be observed in October, and has been expanded from the week of activities
which were formerly scheduled to an entire month. Under the umbrella of the
National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, the events are co-sponsored
by the American Academy of Family Physicians, as well as The American Cancer
Society, American College of Radiology, National Cancer Care Foundation,
National Cancer Institute, Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Advancement of
Breast Cancer Research, and the ICI Pharmaceuticals Group, which is providing
funds for this effort. You would be wise to request the newly revised booklet
"Breast Cancer; Your Best Protection. . . Early Detection" by sending a
stamped, self addressed business envelope to the National Alliance of Breast
Cancer Organizations, Dept. FD, P.O. Box 4333, Grand Central Station, New
York, NY 10063. You may also ask the Alliance to send you their other
materials developed to help inform you about Breast Cancer, and help you avoid
its more serious complications.
