I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: AIDS Information Clearinghouse

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fear of AIDS and its consequences must rank as number 1 as the
greatest medical anxiety in our population in this decade. Almost all the
experts agree, that for as long as their is no specific and effective cure,
our main line of defense must remain an educated public. And since I feel
that I share the responsibility of keeping all of you informed of the latest
developments in the field of medicine, I want to make you aware of a most
important telephone number that may help you in your search for reliable
material about AIDS. I believe that such a number provides certain advantages
to those who are reluctant to express their fears about the disease to their
physicians, or to friends. You may now obtain the information you need from
the National AIDS Information Clearinghouse, telephone number 1 (800)
458-5231. The Clearinghouse distributes a number of publications on AIDS,
including the Surgeon General's report and American Red Cross publications.
Callers may receive referrals to local telephone numbers for specific
information about AIDS and sources for treatment. The Clearinghouse is a
service of the U.S. Public Health Service and operates from 9 a.m.--7 p.m.
eastern time during weekdays.
