I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Drinking

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By now most Americans are well aware of the potentially fatal combination
of drinking and driving. An estimated 70 percent of Americans drink alcohol,
but strict Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) laws and public campaigns by such
groups as Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) have cautioned all to quaff
only soft drinks if driving later on is in the picture.
Holiday revelries can sometimes unhitch caution from the wagon. To help
people better understand the risk involved and where those most at risk can
turn for help, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company's free pamphlet "Alcohol
and Health" offers excellent guidelines.
One of MetLife's Stay Well series of pamphlets it provides information on
"Moderate Drinking and Problem Drinking", "What Are the Warning Signs of
Alcoholism", as well as "What Are the Physical Effects of Alcoholism". In
addition, there is a comprehensive list of organizations and services that
provide the help so necessary to those with a drinking problem. But the first
step may be up to family and friends, and obtaining this booklet can be the
beginning of a solution.
Single copies are available free of charge upon request when accompanied
by a stamped self addressed 8 1/2 x 11 envelope. Mail you request to Alcohol
and Safety, Health and Safety Education, Area 16-UV, Metropolitan Life
Insurance Company, One Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10010.
