I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Childhood Asthma

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When an asthma attack strikes, the airways (bronchi and bronchioles) that
bring air and oxygen from the mouth and nose to the lungs become narrowed,
fill with thick mucous and greatly hamper the ability of the patient to
breathe easily. Wheezing and cough, add to the distress which can rapidly
fatigue even the strongest individual. And this common disease can afflict
people of all ages, and result from a wide variety of causes. Yet there are
effective medications that can both help to prevent the recurrence of the
episodes as well as control the asthma attack. And your knowledge about the
disease is an important weapon in fighting its effects upon you. The American
Academy of Allergy and Immunology have just published two new information
brochures in their "TIPS" series that are of particular interest to those with
asthma, and their families. TIP # 20 is called "Childhood Asthma" while TIP #
21 is entitled "Asthma and Allergies in Seniors". Both are filled with vital
material that describe asthma and give important tips on recognizing and
managing the disease, medications, and other therapies. You may obtain your
single copies by sending your request to the Academy at 611 East Wells Street,
Milwaukee, WI 53202. Please specify which "Tip" you wish and enclose 50 cents
per brochure to cover cost of mailing. A stamped, self-addressed envelope is
not required.
