I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Melanoma/Skin Cancer

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you were not aware of it, this month of May marks the occasion of
National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month, sponsored by the
American Academy of Dermatology. And malignant melanoma, a serious skin
cancer characterized by the uncontrolled growth of melanin (pigment) producing
tanning cells, is on the rise with 27,600 new cases reported in 1989, or about
1,500 more than in 1988. I am always frustrated when you send in questions to
me about skin cancer, for unfortunately, it is most difficult to describe
these lesions in words alone. But now I have just the weapon I need to help
fight the war on skin cancer and give you the chance to see what we are
talking about. A superbly prepared booklet, with full color photographs is
now available upon request, with out charge. It is called "Melanoma/Skin
Cancer; You Can Recognize the Symptoms" and you may obtain your copy by
sending a stamped self addressed business size envelope to the American
Academy of Dermatology, P.O. Box 3116, Evanston, IL 60204-3116 This is the
best publication I have seen to help you identify skin cancers, and obtain
care in the swift and speedy fashion that provides the best outcomes.

PLEASE FORWARD YOUR REQUEST TO THE
                                        ADDRESS INDICATED IN THE ARTICLE.
