I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Gallstone Brochure

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you suffer from the effects of gallstones, you are one of over a
million people who this year will join the more 25 million Americans estimated
to have stones in their gallbladder. That is over 10 percent of the
population. While anyone can develop this condition, it is more common in
women, certain ethnic groups such as North American Indians. The chances of
developing gallstones increases with age, so that by age 65, 20 percent of all
Americans have a stone or two. If the symptoms of severe and steady pain in
the upper abdomen, indigestion, nausea or vomiting, or severe pain and
tenderness in the right side of the abdomen under the ribs are familiar to
you, you may included in the statistics I have just given you. You will then
want to obtain all the information in a new pamphlet available from the
American Liver Foundation, which is your free of charge by sending your
request and a stamped, self-addressed business sized envelope to "Gallstone
Brochure" Department AB, American Liver Foundation, Cedar Grove, NJ 07009.
The booklet is filled with many of the questions, and the answers, that are
sent to me in great numbers. The workings of the gallbladder, the causes of
gallstones, the signs and symptoms of gallstones, as well as a discussion of
the treatments now available, surgical and non-surgical are all included,
making this a most informative pamphlet, and one you can not afford to pass
up.
