I THOUGHT YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW: Vison Problems

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am an avid collector of catalogues of all sorts. Of course, many
contain information about publications dealing with patient education, but no
catalogue goes unread, before it finds its way into my filing cabinets. They
provide a library of resources and I can always check a catalogue before a
shopping spree, or find information about a particularly thorny problem, which
helps provide a quick solution. Recently I obtained a copy of a wonderful
publication that can be of certain value to many friends who have my column
read to them, because of impaired sight. Its called "Products for People With
Vison Problems", published by the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), and
it is loaded with a wide variety of interesting items. It includes special
clocks and timers, a group of "talking" health aids such as thermometer, blood
pressure cuff and bathroom scale, tools and instruments, and writing aids.
There are a number games available, including chess and checkers, low vision
playing cards, and even that all time favorite "Monopoly". Its simple to get a
copy of this for your self, relative or friend. You may use the AFB toll free
hotline, 1-800-AFBLIND (NY residents call 212-620 2147), or you can mail your
request to AFB, 15 West 16th Street, New York, NY 10011.
