Comrade! It is time to teach a lesson to those capitalist lap
dogs in Finland!

December 1939

Germany has conquered Poland. It is time for the Soviet Union to
flex its muscle to show the world its might. Comrade it is your
duty to direct the attack to capture the town of Doorsal. Your
advance into Finland has been glorious but we must consolidate
our position in Ickki and that means we must secure Doorsal. From
there we will be able to bring our foe to her knees!

Situation:

You have been assigned the task of taking the town of Doorsal.
That is your primary objective. You will advance with infantry on
skis to take the stream crossing and then exploit the bridgehead
with your tank units. Your forces are well equiped and well
supplied. You should have little trouble with the meager forces
our enemy has at his disposal.

Intelligence:

Our intelligence reports of enemy forces in the area are old.
They indicate that the Finns have a few obsolete tanks and are
mostly made up of local militia. The snow may hinder your
advance, but the roads in the area are good. You must complete
your advance before additional forces can be sent in to
reinforce your opponent.

Supporting Units:

You have been allotted several sorties from our most advanced air
units. You have also been assigned one take platoon of the latest
prototype of the T-28. The T-28(C) should be able to withstand
anything that can hit her. Please report back immediately on any
failures of the new prototype.

You raise your binoculars to survey your forces and notice that
your ski troops have already gone into action. The standing order
was to wait until the tanks were in a postion to lend direct
support. Oh well, as much as you would like to ignore this
mistake by your undertained battalion commander, your political
officer will expect a full report. Heads will roll if the
objective is not taken on time.

Glancing at your directive you know from past experience the high
command is overly optimistic. The Finns have allowed us to
advance into their county only for one reason. They have prepared
defensive postions and will probably now quit retreating. We must
be ready. Our cunning foe will throw everything at us he has and
will be able to make excellent use of the terrain he knows so
well.

Crossing the road to your waiting tank you can feel the snow
crunch underfoot and know today's battle will be with two foes.
At least it will be clear enough to allow you to take advantage
of your allotment of airpower. Turning back you can see your
tanks lined up like a band of gray metal cossacks waiting for the
charge. Gunfire tells you that up ahead things are heating up,
but just one last detail to take care of before you let them
loose. From inside your coat you take a prized possession, vodka,
a gift from your father. It is time to share a drink with your
comrades before the battle, who knows if any of you will be able
to share another later. Then again you may have the misfortune of
sampling one of our Finish friends favorite drinks in the next
two hours, a molotov cocktail.
