PARTS

R1 1--K OHM
R2 1-K OHM
R- 1-K OHM
C1 .1uF DISC CAP
C2 .1uF DISC CAP (READ DIRECTIONS FIRST, YOU MAY NOT NEED)
Q1 2N7--8 FET (OR SILICONIX VN12-6L OR VN2222L OR GE D8OAN2)
Q2 MPSA 1-
1 MIC PLUG (with wire)
1 REMOTE PLUG (with wire)
SOME FONE WIRE

After connecting the caps, resistor, and the transistor, you need to hook
up the wire.. For this you will need a multi-meter.. You need to find
out what type of recorder you have.. Set your multi-meter to 20v..

Plug in the mic and remote plugs into your recorder.. Now, using only the
common part of the plugs, connect your meter to it.. Then:

if you read MORE than 5 volts goto step 2 then 4 (you dont need C2)
if you read LESS than 5 volts goto step 3 then 4 (you do need C2)

STEP 2
connect the connection 1 (from schematic) to the tip of rem plug (center)
connect the connection 4 to the ring of the rem plug (outer or common)

connect the connection 2 to the tip of the mic plug
connect the connection 4 to the ring of the mic plug

STEP 3
connect the connection 1 to ring on mic
connect the connection 4 to tip on mic

connect the connection 2 to tip on rem
connect the connection 5 to ring on rem (here is where you need C2)

STEP 4
connect the connection 3 to tip of fone
connect the connection 4 to ring of fone

Ok, now plug everything in.. If the tape recorder does not shut off
when you hang up, reverse STEP 4..

For best results, use a batery operated tape recorder.. If you use an
AC adapter, you will get noise on the recording, and possibly on the
fone..

Enjoy...
