Windows Installation

Start Bookie by clicking on the Bookie Bookworm icon.

You should see the opening screen and hear music. If Windows
generates an error message associated with its Sound Drivers,
that's okay, because Bookie has his own sound drivers built in!
So, if you don't hear the music, exit Bookie by hitting the
<ESC> key and choose one of the following solutions.

        1) Start BOOKIE from DOS. File-Exit Windows and type BOOKIE
at the DOS prompt. When you exit Bookie, you will be at
the DOS prompt again and you can re-start Windows by typing
           WIN

                            -- OR --

        2) At the DOS prompt, start Windows by typing WIN /S
and then click the Bookie Bookworm icon.

The /S option stands for "Standard Mode" and makes the sound work.

If Windows starts automatically when you turn on your computer,
use the Windows NotePad program in the Accessories Group to
           File-Open C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
Locate the line that says WIN and add /S so that the new line is:

                WIN /S

           File-Save C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT
Now, the next time you turn on your computer Windows will
load in Standard Mode and the sound in Bookie will work.

Some programs will run faster in Standard Mode, but
a few Windows programs may require Enhanced mode and will
give you an error message as such. If any of your Windows
programs gives you an error message requesting "Enhanced Mode"
you should not use the /S option. You will have to start
Windows by typing WIN and run BOOKIE from DOS.
If you have added WIN /S to your C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT you will
have to remove the /S using NotePad.

Question/Answer

Q: When setting up sound, what Address and Interrupt do I use?
A: Type SET at the DOS prompt, if you see "BLASTER=A220 D1 I5 T3"
The A220 indicates address 220, the I5 indicates interrupt 5.

Q: Sound plays for a few seconds and then stops.
A: You have either selected the wrong Interrupt and need to INSTALL
again, or if you are running from Windows, you need to restart
   Windows by typing WIN /S

Q: Bookie works great in DOS, but in Windows the sound doesn't work.
A: Try starting Windows by typing WIN /S (the /S option makes the
sound work). The /S actually stands for Standard Mode, and some
programs may run faster in Standard Mode. If you are running in
Standard Mode and an application gives you a message requiring
Enhanced Mode you will have to start Windows without the /S and
   run Bookie from DOS.

Q: One of my Windows applications won't work when I use WIN /S.
A: If you are running Windows in Standard Mode and an application
gives you a message requiring Enhanced Mode you will have to
start Windows without the /S and run Bookie from DOS.

Q: My mouse doesn't work?
A: Make sure you have a DOS Mouse Driver installed. Typically, you
can simply type the word MOUSE at the DOS prompt or add a line
to C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT that says MOUSE. Your mouse driver may be
called GMOUSE or LMOUSE as well.
