FIntroduction to Biblical References F FIn the Bible, we find many references to things which could Fbe taken as examples of the use of futuristic technology or Fthe intervention in human affairs by an extraterrestrial Fpower. Should we take these instances as absolute proof Fthat aliens have visited Earth in the past and had their Fdoings recorded in the Bible? No. These examples are not Fwell-documented. They are brief and in many cases Finaccurate or apocryphal. They must be taken as simply Fanother piece of the UFO mystery. Why then, are these FBiblical references included in this product? Because in Fany research we must consider each piece of evidence, no Fmatter how insignificant or misleading. It is our intention Fto suggest one possible explanation for some of the Fmiraculous events recorded in the Bible. Readers are Fencouraged to draw their own conclusions from the Finformation presented. Wherever possible, we have included Fbiblical text to support the conclusions. This text comes Ffrom the King James version of the Bible. F/ FEzekiel's Wheel FOver the centuries, the description of the vision given by FEzekiel and reported in the Bible has been read, Fscrutinized, analyzed and generally debated to death. The Fonly fact at our disposal is that the story is recorded in Fthe Bible. Was it a vision of God? Was it, as some have Ftheorized, simply the misidentification of atmospheric Fphenomena? Was it a futuristic flying vehicle? Clearly, FEzekiel saw something, but the truth of the matter is lost Fto history. We can now only speculate. Following is the Ffull text of Ezekiel chapter one and our analysis including Fvarious theories of what was actually seen by the prophet. F FFrom the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel, chapter 1, verses F1 - 28: F F1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth Fmonth, in the fifth day of the month as I was among the Fcaptives by the river of Chebar that the heavens were opened Fand I saw visions of God. F2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year Fof king Jehoiachins captivity, F3 The word of the Lord came expressly unto Ezekiel the Fpriest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans by the Friver Chebar; and the hand of the Lord was there upon him. F4 And I looked, and, behold a whirlwind came out of the Fnorth, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a Fbrightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the Fcolour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. F5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four Fliving creatures. And this was their appearance; they had Fthe likeness of a man. F6 And every one had four faces, and every one had four Fwings. F7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their Ffeet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled Flike the colour of burnished brass. F8 And they had the hands of a man under their wings on Ftheir four sides; and they four had their faces and their Fwings. F9 Their wings were joined one to another; they turned not Fwhen they went; they went every one straight forward. F10 As for the likeness of their faces, they four had the Fface of a man, and the face of a lion, on the right side: Fand they four had the face of an ox on the left side; they Ffour also had the face of an eagle. F11 Thus were their faces: and their wings were stretched Fupward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, Fand two covered their bodies. F12 And they went every one straight forward: whither the Fspirit was to go, they went; and they turned not when they Fwent. F13 As for the likeness of the living creatures, their Fappearance was like burning coals of fire, and like the Fappearance of lamps: it went up and down among the living Fcreatures; and the fire was bright, and out of the fire went Fforth lightning. F14 And the living creatures ran and returned as the Fappearance of a flash of lightning. F15 Now as I beheld the living creatures, behold one wheel Fupon the earth by the living creatures, with his four faces. F16 The appearance of the wheels and their work was like unto Fthe colour of a beryl: and they four had one likeness: and Ftheir appearance and their work was as it were a wheel in Fthe middle of a wheel. F17 When they went, they went upon their four sides: and they Fturned not when they went. F18 As for their rings, they were so high that they were Fdreadful; and their rings were full of eyes round about them Ffour. F19 And when the living creatures went, the wheels went by Fthem: and when the living creatures were lifted up from the Fearth, the wheels were lifted up. F20 Whithersoever the spirit was to go, they went, thither Fwas their spirit to go; and the wheels were lifted up over Fagainst them, for the spirit of the living creature was in Fthe wheels. F21 When those went, these went; and when those stood, these Fstood; and when those were lifted up from the earth, the Fwheels were lifted up over against them: for the spirit of Fthe living creature was in the wheels. F22 And the likeness of the firmament upon the heads of the Fliving creatures was as the colour of the terrible crystal, Fstretched forth over their heads above. F23 And under the firmament were their wings straight, the Fone toward the other: every one had two, which covered on Fthis side, and every one had two, which covered on that Fside their bodies. F24 And when they went, I heard the noise of their wings, Flike the noise of great waters, as the voice of the FAlmighty, the voice of speech, as the noise of an host: Fwhen they stood, they let down their wings. F25 And there was a voice from the firmament that was over Ftheir heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. F26 And above the firmament that was over their heads was the Flikeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: Fand upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the Fappearance of a man above upon it. F27 And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of Ffire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins Feven upward and from the appearance of his loins even Fdownward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it Fhad brightness round about. F28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the Fday of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round Fabout. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory Fof the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I Fheard a voice of one that spake. F FEzekiel goes into some detail about what he saw, but what Fwas it? He seems to be describing it to the best of his Fability, he was, after all, not an engineer. He may have Fbeen having some type of hallucination or experiencing a Fpsychological event of kind, but there are two technical Fexplanations: F F1. A Parhelion. This atmospheric phenomenon is caused by Fice crystals refracting the light of the sun. A similar Fcondition causes a ring to be seen around the moon during Fthe winter months. Under proper circumstances, two rings, Fone inside the other, can be seen. Sun dogs can also be Fcaused by ice crystals and could be seen at the same time. FIt is possible that it was a combination of these phenomena Fthat Ezekiel was referring to. The only problem we see in Fthis explanation is that Ezekiel refers to living creatures, Fwings, the hands of a man under the wings. He also talks Fabout the creatures being lifted up and the wheels lifting Fup and the noise of the wings like the noise of great Fwaters. Hardly the kinds of things that ice crystals are Flikely to do. F F2. Some type of flying vehicle. In 1968, a NASA engineer Fdesigned a craft based upon his interpretation of Ezekiel's Fvision. Although the design is brilliant in concept and Fwould fly well, it is based on 1968 technology and does not Ftake into account several items that Ezekiel mentions. It Fis logical to assume that any flying craft present in FEzekiel's day and likely manned by beings from an advanced Fcivilization would employ technology well in advance of our Fown. Here then, is our interpretation of what Ezekiel saw: FLet us assume, for the sake of argument, that Ezekiel was Fseeing a mechanical flying machine and not simply Fexperiencing a daydream or hallucination. To begin with, he Fdescribes four living creatures which have the likeness of a Fman. They appear to have four faces and four wings. Two of Fthe wings stretch upward and are attached to wings of other Fof the living creatures. The other two cover the body. Two Fof these 'wings' might have been structural supports Fattached to the 'bodies' and the other two which cover the Fbody might be panels which cover machinery. In verse 24 he Fsays that 'when they stood, they let down their wings'. When Fthe machine was not moving, or had landed, the panels were Flowered. Perhaps this is the reason that he calls them F'living'. He sees a mechanical device moving panels F(raising and lowering wings) and he believes it to be alive- Fa 'living creature'. He describes each living creature as Fhaving four faces, that of a man, an eagle, an ox and a Flion. This is a cryptic passage, but it may be as Fdescriptive as Ezekiel could manage. Perhaps the nostrils Fof these faces were, in actuality, downward facing Fthrusters. The lion face, might indicate a mass of tubes or Fconduits which resemble a mane. The eagle face might Findicate an atmospheric fin which resembles a beak. FHe also describes the feet as being like those of a calf. FThat would be thin and tubular, maybe a type of landing pad For structural stabilizer. FThe wheels are the main feature that seems to have Ffascinated Ezekiel. In verse 16, he describes them as Fbeing the color of beryl. This might be yellow or green. FHe also says that they have the appearance of a wheel within Fa wheel. This has been interpreted in many ways over the Fyears. The simplest solution might be a wheel with a Fcentral hub. It could also be a description of an axleless Fwheel which rotates around an inner rim. FIn verse 20, he states the following: "..and the wheels were Flifted up over against them: for the spirit of the creatures Fwas in the wheels." He is referring to the wheels moving up Fover against the "living creatures". This sounds remarkably Fsimilar to the action of the landing gear of a modern Faircraft. Imagine the wheels retracting on takeoff and Fextending during landing. The "spirit of the creatures" in Fthe wheels seems to indicate that maybe the parts of the Flanding pod which performed the most movement were the Fwheels themselves. In verse 22, Ezekiel describes the Flikeness of the firmament stretched over their heads and Fhaving the colour of the terrible crystal. Is this a Fdescription of some type of clear canopy? He goes on to Fdescribe a throne which sits above the firmament and on this Fthrone is a man. Is this the control chair for the craft Fand a description of the person flying it? Again, pure Fspeculation, but it is one possible answer. F FConclusion: Again, the only fact that we have is that this Fevent is recorded in the Bible. We can only assume that FEzekiel was reporting what he saw as accurately as he could, Fusing the language of his day. It is also plausible that FEzekiel was experiencing a type of hallucination or Fdaydream. If, in fact, this was a futuristic flying Fvehicle, it would indicate that Earth has been visited by an Fadvanced civilization in biblical times, but this is by no Fmeans the only conclusion which can be drawn from the Finformation at hand. F/ FElijah's Ascent into heaven. F FElijah was a prophet who ascended into heaven on a Fwhirlwind. He had known beforehand that he would be lifted Finto heaven so that the appearance of a chariot of fire and Ffiery horses was no surprise to him. What kind of vehicle Fwas this? There is no way to know, however, it is another Fexample of possible futuristic technology being used in Fbiblical times. F FFrom the book of Second Kings, chapter two, verse eleven: F F11 And it came to pass, as they (Elijah & Elisha) still went Fon, and talked, that, behold, [there appeared] a chariot of Ffire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and FElijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. F FIt is interesting to note that prior to his departure, he Fhad parted the waters of a river by smiting them with his Fmantle (A wide strip of cloth similar to a scarf). FAfter he left, his companion, Elisha picked up the mantle Fwhich he had left and used it himself to part the waters and Fre-cross the river. The idea being that the spirit of FElijah had been transferred to Elisha. It is more likely Fthat Elijah's mantle had some special properties of its own. FThe only thing said about the chariot of fire and fiery Fhorses in the Bible is that they appeared. This leaves us Fno real information to go on, but, the main idea here is Fthat Elijah left by ascending into heaven. He went up into Fthe sky on board a flying chariot thousands of years before Fman had discovered flight. Was it a rocket ship? A Fhelicopter? F FConclusion: It is reported in the Bible that the prophet FElijah ascended into heaven aboard a chariot of fire. Lets Fassume, first of all, that this was some type of flying Fvehicle. The other interesting thing about this episode is Fthe prophet himself. He had knowledge that no one of his Ftime should have had. Perhaps this vehicle was his own Fprivate flying machine. The only person who witnessed this Fevent was Elisha who left, taking Elijah's mantle with him. FWas this a story invented by Elisha to explain something he Fdid not understand? The information is too limited to Fsupport a conclusion. F/ FExodus of the Children of Israel from Egypt F FThe story of the exodus from Egypt provides a fascinating Fexample of possible use of technology in biblical times. F FFrom the book of Exodus, chapter 13, verses 21 - 22: F F21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a Fcloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of Ffire, to give them light; to go by day and night. F22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the Fpillar of fire by night, [from] before the people. F FThe most striking thing about the description of the pillars Fof cloud and fire is how closely they resemble the exhaust Fleft by the lift-off of a modern rocket or space shuttle. FDuring a night launch, the trail of exhaust resembles a Fpillar of fire and provides bright lighting to the ground Fbelow. During a day launch, the exhaust trail resembles a Fpillar of cloud. Could it be that the Iraelites were led by Fa flying vehicle supported by rocket motors?. This is but Fone explanation, but in the context presented here, it could Feasily be seen as another example of futuristic technology Fused in the Bible. Another interesting feature of the Fpillar is its movement as seen here: FFrom the book of Exodus, chapter 14, verses 19 - 20: F F19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of FIsrael, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the Fcloud went from before their face and stood behind them. F20 And it came between the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; Fand it was a cloud and darkness [to them], but it gave light Fby night [to these]: so that the one came not near the other Fall the night. F FHere we see that the pillar of cloud and fire must be small Fenough to be easily mobile as it moves from in front of the FIsraelites to come between them and the Egyptians. It is Falso able to cause darkness to one side and light to Fanother. F FConclusion: The hypothesis that this was some type of Fflying vehicle seems easy to support with the description of Fthe pillar given in the Bible. By day, a pillar of cloud or Fsmoke, by night, a pillar of fire; the similarity to rocket Fexhaust is striking. FThe entire story of the exodus of the Children of Israel Ffrom Egypt is littered with reports of miraculous events. FWe must be careful to bear in mind that much of what was Fwritten was used to enhance the story in the first place. FWe can not be sure of the accuracy of any explanation. F/ FMoses' encounter with God on Mount Sinai and his subsequent Freturn to the Israelites is an interesting case to study. F FFrom the book of Exodus, chapter 19, verses 16 - 24: F F16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that Fthere were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon Fthe mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so Fthat all the people that was in the camp trembled. F17 And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to Fmeet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the Fmount. F18 And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the FLord descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof Fascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount Fquaked greatly. F19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed Flouder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a Fvoice. F20 And the Lord came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of Fthe mount: and the Lord called Moses up to the top of the Fmount; and Moses went up. F21 And the Lord said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, Flest they break through unto the Lord to gaze, and many of Fthem perish. F22 And let the priests also, which come near the Lord, Fsanctify themselves, lest the Lord break forth upon them. F23 And Moses said unto the Lord, The people cannot come up Fto mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds Fabout the mount, and sanctify it. F24 And the Lord said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou Fshalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the Fpriests and the people break through to come up unto the FLord, lest he break forth upon them. F FIn these passages is described the descent of the Lord to Fthe top of mount Sinai and a brief conversation with Moses. FNotice how verses 16 and 18 describe the the thunder and Flightning as well as the quaking of the mountain. Is this a Fdescription of the landing of a great vehicle upon the Fmountain? Thundering rocket motors would certainly cause Fthe type of effects noted in these passages. Another Finteresting feature is the fact that Moses must wait for an F"all clear" signal, the sounding of a trumpet, before he can Fclimb the mountain to speak with God. This might be for FMoses' safety, keeping him out of the way until the ship had Flanded and had been secured from flight. It is also Freiterated that the people as well as the priests must stay Faway. They are not to come near the mount to gaze at God. FIf this truly was a case of extraterrestrial intervention, Fthey would want to keep the contamination of the culture as Flimited as possible. Doing all of their work through a Fsingle individual acting as a liason. FDoes this mean that Moses and the children of Israel had Fbeen helped by an extraterrestrial force? That is one Ftheory. But, we must remember that the record of these Fevents is sketchy at best. FAfter Moses has spoken with God, and is returning to the Fchildren of Israel, there is a final bit of interesting Finformation. F FFrom the book of Exodus, chapter 34, verses 29 - 35: F F29 And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount FSinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses' hand, when Fhe came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the Fskin of his face shone while he talked with him. F30 And when Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, Fbehold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to Fcome nigh him. F31 And Moses called unto them; and Aaron and all the rulers Fof the congregation returned unto him: and Moses talked with Fthem. F32 And afterward all the children of Israel came nigh: and Fhe gave them in commandment all that the Lord had spoken Fwith him in mount Sinai. F33 And till Moses had done speaking with them, he put a vail Fon his face. F34 But when Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, Fhe took the vail off, until he came out. And he came out, Fand spake unto the children of Israel that which he was Fcommanded. F35 And the children of Israel saw the face of Moses and the Fskin of Moses' face shone: and Moses put the vail upon his Fface again, until he went in to speak with him. F FConclusion: It is reported here that Moses' face shone after Fhis conversation with God. Does this mean that his face was Fsunburned, or is there a glowing effect, or some other Fphenomenon? The most plausible answer is that he was up on Fthe mount at high altitude and simply was sunburned. Would Fa simple case of sunburn be enough to frighten Aaron and the Fchildren of Israel? Moses was so self-concious that he wore Fa vail over his face. What is being described here? We Fsimply don't have enough reliable information to be able to Fdraw an accurate conclusion. The Fstar which they followed to Bethlehem, has, for centuries, Fbeen the topic of biblical investigation. F FFrom the book of Luke, chapter 2, verse 9: F F9 When they (the three wise men) heard the king, they Fdeparted; (Jerusalem) and, lo, the star, which they saw in Fthe east went before them, till it came and stood over where Fthe young child was. F FThe information we get from this verse seems to indicate Fthat the three wise men followed a light in the sky from FJerusalem to Bethlehem. Was the star always stationary over FBethlehem, or did it move, leading the wise men? Were they Factually fooled by the planet venus or the conjunction of FJupiter and one or more of the outer planets? FThere is an effect caused by the movement of clouds which Fmay help to clear up the mystery surrounding the star. At Fnight, as clouds move across the sky, due to the lack of Freference points, any bright object such as a star or planet Fwill apear to be moving as the clouds sweep across it. This Foptical illusion could have been what made the three wise Fmen believe that they were following a moving star. From the book of Genesis, chapter 19, verses F12 - 15: F F12 And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? Fson in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever Fthou hast in the city, bring them out of this place. F13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them Fis waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord Fhath sent us to destroy it. F14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which Fmarried his daughters, and said, Up get you out of this Fplace; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed Fas one that mocked unto unto his sons in law. F15 And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, Fsaying, Arise, Take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which Fare here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. F FAfter telling his family that they must leave because the Fcity will be destroyed, Lot is believed to be joking. In Fthe morning, the angels get Lot to hurry and leave. Why is Fthere so much pressure to leave? Why was Lot and his family Fchosen. Why did the angels not use some power to get Lot Fout of the city? FIn verse 17, Lot is told to flee for his life and not look Fbehind him. Then, as the Lot family is leaving, the Fdestruction begins. FFrom the book of Genesis, chapter 19, verses 24 - 26: F F24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah Fbrimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; F25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and Fall the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon Fthe ground. F26 But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became Fa pillar of salt. F FConclusion: Here we have the description of fire and Fbrimstone raining down upon Sodom and Gomorrah. Is it Fpossible that some alien force had grown unhappy with the Fbehavior of people of these cities and therefore destroyed Fthem? Why was Lot's wife turned to stone? What actually Fhappened here? One suggested explanation is that a nuclear Fdevice was detonated, causing the destruction reported in Fthe Bible.
