FIntroduction to Alien Abductions F F Potentially the most challenging and bizarre element Fof the UFO field is the Alien Abduction Syndrome (AAS), Fwherein thousands of people claim to have been taken aboard Fa flying saucer-like craft by diminutive humanoid entities, Fwhere they undergo a series of "medical" experiments. They Fare usually brought back within a few hours, in most cases Fwith their memory of the events temporarily erased - the Fso-called "Missing Time" phenomenon. F F Although presently the known database contains cases Fdating as far back as the 1930s, the first highly Fpopularized abduction event - the Betty and Barney Hill case F - occurred in 1961. Until that time, and for a few years Fbeyond, cases involving actual contact with "aliens" were Flooked on with contempt by most serious ufologists, who were Fdesperately seeking scientific concensus on the UFO issue Fand did not want to endanger their efforts by bringing F"Little Green Men" into the picture. There was also the Fdesire to distance themselves from the spurious "Contactee" Fphenomenon, which reached its peak in the 1950s. These F"contact" episodes were related by mostly well-meaning but Feccentric individuals bringing messages of brotherhood, Fpeace, and planetary awareness from spiritually advanced Fextraterrestrials. Some told wild and woolly stories of Frides aboard flying saucers with comely female Venusians. A Ffew still peddle their stories to this day. F F In stark contrast to the Contactee phenomenon, the FAbduction syndrome is characterized by a general unwilling- Fness on the part of percipients to come forward and tell Ftheir stories publicly. Indeed, most are not certain at Ffirst exactly what has happened, only that they are bothered Fby strange memories, dreams, or baseless phobias, and seek Frelief through hypnosis or other clinical means. F F It is mostly through hypnosis that the abduction Fscenario generally pours out (although it is important to Fnote that 28% of all cases are recalled consciously), and it Fis this use of hypnosis that has been at the center of the Ffirestorm of controversy over AAS. Detractors claim that Fhypnosis is a highly unreliable means of extracting accurate Frecall of events; it is too prone to confabulation, and Finstills a desire in the claimant to "please" the hypnotist. FProponents argue that confabulation cannot account for the Fstriking similarities between abduction narratives, nor for Fwhat they claim are physical marks or scars associated with Fseveral abduction experiences. They further assert that Fpurposeful attempts to steer the witness astray by asking Fleading questions have only resulted in denials and Fbolstering of the witness' own version. F F The most compelling evidence in favor of the reality Fof alien abductions is, as mentioned, the striking Fcorrelation between accounts, and especially the description Fof the abducting entities, who are almost universally Fdepicted as short, hairless, and grey-skinned, with immense Fpupil-less eyes (see drawing). The classic "greylien" is Fslender, with long, thin limbs, skin that has been described Fas "marshmallowy" or "papier-mache," large, bulbous craniums Fslits for nostrils and mouth, no apparent ears nor Fgenitalia. They are variously portrayed as wearing tight- Ffitting uniforms or having no apparent clothing; floating Feffortlessly a few inches above the ground or sweeping Falmost instantaneously from place to place; acting cautious, Fcurious, disinterested, or a strange combination of all Fthree. Communication is almost universally telepathic, yet Fvery little in the way of useful information about their Fnature or purpose is ever conveyed. F F In one of the few instances where a nugget of Finformation about the alleged "visitors" MIGHT have been Frevealed, Betty Hill was shown a "star map" by one of her Fabductors, which she recreated under hypnosis. It depicted Fa couple of large stars with several lines drawn between Fthem, which the entity told her were "trade routes." A Fscore of smaller stars were scattered about the drawing. FYears later, a teacher named Marjorie Fish claimed to have Fcorrelated the drawing with a known section of space, Fincluding stars that had not yet been charted at the time of Fthe Hill abduction. If authenticated, it would place the Faliens in a star system known as Zeta Reticuli. F F Several elements, however, militate against the Freality of the abduction scenario. The most distressing is Fthe lack of physical evidence where such should exist. FAside from a few vaguely interesting scars and marks, no Fphysical evidence exists to lend empirical weight to the Fstories being told, thereby placing the phenomenon squarely Fin the realm of the unproven. Tantalizing stories of Fimplants and pregnancies that ended mysteriously have thus Ffar not held up under close scrutiny. F F State-of-the-art abduction research is presently Ffocused on finding psychological causes for AAS. Some Ftheories that have promise include Fantasy Prone FPersonality, Sleep Paralysis, Hypnogognic States, and Border FDeficit Disorder. Such efforts, however, have been hampered Fby the fact that, thus far, studies of abduction claimants Fhave shown no strong tendencies in any of these directions; Fin fact, the average "abductee" is quite healthy mentally. FThis fact, coupled with favorable media exposure, has begun Fto attract more psychologists and other mental health Fprofessionals to the field, largely through symposia and Fscience journals. Such experts would probably otherwise shun Fthe UFO field, but Alien Abduction Syndrome has proven a Fworthy challenge to even the most diehard skeptic. F FThe accompanying drawing portrays an artist's rendering of Fone of the grey aliens as described by an abductee. F/ FUSA 1952 Adamski, George F FThe story told by George Adamski of his alleged contact with Fextraterrestrials is not strictly a case of abduction, Fhowever, in his conversations with the aliens, Adamski Flearns that they have been abduction human beings. FHis story begins on November 20, 1952 at 12:30pm in the FCalifornia desert near Arizona. He and six friends were Fdriving near Desert Center California when a cigar shaped Fcraft landed in the desert near the road. Adamski took two Fcameras and ran to investigate. He was greeted by a tall, Fblond alien with a shiny suit. (This sounds incredible, but Flater abductees have also mentioned tall, blond, Nordic Flooking aliens.) He was told through a combination of sign Flanguage and telepathy that the alien's name was Orthon and Fthat he came from Venus. Orthon told Adamski that nuclear Ftesting on Earth was effecting the ecological balance of Fother planets. FIn later encounters, Adamski was supposedly taken, aboard Fflying saucers, to other planets in the solar system Fincluding Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. On one trip, he Fwas taken to the farside of the Moon where he supposedly Fwitnessed lakes, cities, snow-capped mountains and even Fpeople walking along streets. FObviously these wild tales have since been proven to be Fwholly inaccurate and it calls into question his entire Fexperience. However, the few details which match closely Fwith more recent abductions add support to the basis of his Fstories. F/ FBRA 1978 Alvaro, Jose F FOn March 3, 1978, Jose Alvaro was checking on his father's Fhouse in Fragata Pelotas, Brazil to be sure that was locked. FAs he walked towards the house, he remembers being struck by Fa blue beam which knocked him out. (It is interesting to Fnote the similarity to the case of Travis Walton as he was Falso struck by a blue beam and knocked out.) When he woke Fup, he recalled many violent images of his abduction. Under Fhypnosis conducted by UFO investigators and psychologists, FAlvaro recalled being led into a room where he was rubbed Fdown and forced to have sex with a female humanoid. (This Fcase also bears a remarkable resemblence to the case of FAntonio Villas Boas which occurred in Argentine in the late F1950s) F/ FJAP 1978 Amano, Hideichi F FIn October of 1978 in Japan, Hideichi Amano and his baby Fdaughter were sitting in their parked car when the interior Fseemed to be engulfed in a glowing light. His daughter Fseemed to have been knocked out and was being probed by a Fbeam of light. Amano then recalls being approached by a Fsmall being with strange eyes and a small nose. This being Fpressed some kind of probe or instrument to Amano's fore- Fhead which paralyzed him. He then reports nothing more Fthan a rush of images similar to those of the Alvaro case. FMr. Amano believes that some kind of instrument was Fimplanted inside his head so that he can be recalled at Fsome later date. F/ FSWE 1974 Anders F FAn abductee who wishes to be known as Anders was walking Falong a dark road on March 23, 1974 north of Stockholm. He Fremembers being surrounded by a bright light which seems to Fhave lifted him up to a UFO which was floating overhead. He Fwas approached by entities which performed a type of medical Fexamination on him. It included the insertion of a probe or Finstrument into his temple. FWhen he arrived at home, he was bleeding from his forehead Fand had a burn mark on his cheek. He was subsequently Fhypnotized in April and May 1974. It was at this point that Fhe decided to change the approach of his research and turned Fto areas that are not usually explored by UFO researchers. FHe found that he was able to manipulate a compass needle by Fplacing his hands around it and was able to see auras Fsurrounding people. FOn the surface, this case might seem a bit fantastic. FHowever, there are several pieces of corroborating evidence. FFirstly, this occurred in the middle of a large wave of UFO Fsightings in the are of the abduction. Within minutes of Fthe abduction, several witnesses recalled seeing lights in Fthe sky in the vicinity of the abduction. One witness Freported a sighting which directly verifies Anders story. FHe recalls seeing a cone shaped light overhead at the time Fthat he was surrounded by the bright light. At that exact Ftime, a witness looked across a field and saw a cone shaped Flight in exactly the position reported by Anders. She did Fnot report seeing Anders, however a stand of trees would Fhave blocked her view of him anyway. It is difficult to Flabel this abduction a hoax. F/ FUSA 1967 Andreasson, Betty F FEarly in the evening of January 25, 1967, Betty was at home Fin Ashburnham, Massachusetts with her parents and children Fwhen her father reported seeing a light outside the kitchen Fwindow then, upon investigation, found several humanoid Fbeings outside the house. Betty then saw several humanoids Fenter the house by simply walking through the walls. This Fsounds like a description by someone in the throes of Fhysteria, however, it is commonly reported among abductees Fthat either they or the beings were able to move through Fsolid objects. Betty recalled nothing more until she was Fhynotically regressed. Under hypnosis, she reported an Fexamination similar to most other abduction reports Fincluding a probe which was inserted up her nose and another Finto her navel. (Very similar to the Betty Hill examination) F/ FUSA 1955 Angelucci, Orfeo F FAfter George Adamski published his book about meetings with Fextraterrestrials, there were a virtual flood of similar Freports. One of these was Orfeo Angelucci who published a Fbook entitled "Secret of the Saucers". In this book, he Fclaims to have had many contacts with extraterrestrials in FCalifornia. He claims to hava had meetings in public places Fincluding a cafe and a bus station. On one occasion, he Feven claims to have met Jesus who told him that he was an Fextraterrestrial. FHe claims to have made many journeys to the alien's home Fworld where he met a woman named Lyra and her friend Orion. FHe was made privvy to certain revelations, among them, the Ffact that if the people of the Earth did not shape up, a Fmajor catastrophe would occur in 1986. FIt seems pretty clear from the claims made, that this was Fnothing more than an attempt to draw attention and make Fsome money with a sensational book. This case is most Flikely a hoax. FApparently. No UFO was reported, but the experience was Fso similar the the Adamski contacts that it is valid to Finclude it in UFO research. They had noticed a light in the sky Fwhich they talked about, but which did not particularly Fdisturb them. Shortly thereafter, they drove through a Fgreenish mist which covered the road. Upon arriving at home Fthey discovered that the journey had taken more than 2.5 Fhours longer than it should have. It is possible that it was a normal astronomical Fobject such as a star or planet and that it was a simple Fmisinterpretation. However, about a week later, Angela was Ffound by her husband staring at the late night sky as if in Fa trance. She did not have any memory of the events of that Fevening, however, she believes that something did occur. FThey led him up to a craft which had landed and rested on Fskids. Inside the craft he was subjected to a medical Fexamination. Upon completion of the exam, he was released Fand told that he was too old (he was in his seventies at the Ftime) for their purpose. He remembers being struck by a beam of light which Fcaused him to become paralyzed and forced him down to his Fknees. He was taken by two short aliens which wore silver Fsuits onto a UFO which had landed. The craft resembled a Fcylinder set up on end. During the flight, he was Fgiven a type of helmet to wear. The craft then landed again Fand Da Silva was blindfolded and led into another room. He was approached by Fa short alien which appeared to resemble a dwarf or gnome Ffrom European literature. He had long red hair, a long Fbeard, greenish eyes and pale skin. Many others very Fmuch like him came into the room. The room itself seemed to Fbe brightly illuminated, however, he could not see any Fdirect light fixtures. According to the book, Kathie was first Fabducted at the age of six when skin and blood samples were Ftaken leaving a scar on her leg which she still has. Then, Fwhen she was 18 years old, she was abducted again and this Ftime there was some type of penetration into her uterus Fwhich may have been a form of artificial insemination. Then Fseveral months later, she was apparently abducted again so Fthat the unborn fetus could be removed. Several years later Fshe was again abducted and this time shown a number of Fbabies. She was somehow instructed to interact with these Fchildren in a form of bonding. FDuring this time, Kathie had divorced her husband and was Fliving with her parents in their house at Copely Wood. At Fone point she remembers sitting in her room watching Ftelevision when she saw a short, grey alien walk down the Fhallway past her room. It appears that her children were Falso being subjected to abductions. FAt one point, she is abducted and shown a young child of Fabout pre-adolescent age. In a drawing she made, she Fdescribes the child as having white, wispy hair which does Fnot cover her head effectively, allowing the scalp to be Fseen. The head is large in relation to the body and the Fnose and lips are quite small. Kathie was able to ask the Faliens if she could take the child with her, but was told Fthat she could not because the child would not survive in Fthe Earth environment. She was even told that she (Kathie) Fcould not stay aboard the ship long, because she would Fbecome ill from the atmoshpere. FThere is evidence that Kathie's mother may have been a long Fterm abduction victim which seems to indicate that the Faliens might be studying genetics. FKathie Davis does not have anything really to gain from a Fhoax and does not have a fantasy prone personality. The Fjury is still out on the question of authenticity of this Freport, but the scope of it certainly warrants attention. FIn a final note, Kathie reports that the aliens were able to Fwalk directly through walls in much the same way that Betty FAndreasson reported in 1967. He was hit by a beam of light and Fparalyzed. He was floated up and into a waiting UFO. On Fboard the craft, he was subjected to an examination and some Fhair was removed from him by a being wearing a one piece Foverall. Four hours later he was found on a road by a Fpassing motorist over three hundred miles away from where Fhe had been. He still carried the newspaper which had only Fbeen printed that morning. At Fone point he was hit by one of the aliens after he gave an Fanswer to a question that the alien did not like. He Fattempted to make a deal with the aliens to exchange live Fanimals for trips aboard their UFO. The aliens accepted Fthis deal and over time exchanged many items for animals Fincluding a ray gun that could destroy anything. He reports Fthat the gun has been lost. FThe most interesting thing about this event is the fact that FMr. E.B. did not realize that his friend had been taken out Fof the car and that his recollection was that it was a bus Fby the side of the road and not a flying saucer. This might Fbe a case of the aliens implanting a false memory in the Fmind of Mr. E.B. or it might be a case of fantasy prone Fpersonality on the part of Mr. Gaetano. It died crossing a bridge near FRomans, France. She then saw a bright orange glow in the Fsky which vanished. Upon arriving home, she realized that Fher journey had taken far longer than she thought. She Funderwent hynotic regression and was able to recall being Ftaken from her car and put aboard a UFO where she was Fstrapped down to a table while an examination was made of Fher abdominal region by small grey aliens. This is a Ftypical abduction story and the details match closely Fthose of abductees from around the world. As he got nearer, he was Fable to make out that it was not a bus, but a diamond shaped Fobject which was about 20 feet wide and 14 feet tall. It Fwas hovering approximately 5 feet off the ground. His radio Fwas not operating so he drew a picture of the object on his Fclipboard. Suddenly Godfrey realized that he was 100 yards Fdown the road from his car and the UFO had vanished. FHe underwent hypnotic regression and was able to recall Fbeing taken on board the UFO where he was laid on a table. FA tall, bearded, human looking man was standing looking down Fat him. They tried to speed up and get away from the Flights, but the car seemed to lose power. The lights soon Fvanished and the car regained its power whereupon the Fwomen drove directly to their local police station and Fnoticed that their total trip seemed to have taken more Ftime than it should have. From the time that the event Ftook place until they reached the police station there Fseemed to be a period of missing time of about twenty Fminutes. FUnder hypnotic regression, Viv Hayward recalled the car Fbeing lifted up into the clouds and drawn into the underside Fof a UFO. She recalls that she was the only one in the car Fat the time. FValerie Walters also has a recollection of the events of Fthat evening, but her memory is different from the others. FShe recalls that Rosemary Hawkins was missing from the car Fand that it was not moving. He Fraised his rifle, took careful aim and fired. However, as Fthe bullet left the barrel of the gun it seemed to be Fmoving very slowly. It floated slowly out and fell to the Fground a few feet away. Mr. Higdon seemed to be standing Fin an area of complete silence and felt a tingling sensation Fall over his body. From his left he heard someone Fapproaching who he thought might be another hunter. This Fother "hunter" turned out to be wild-looking alien with Fyellow skin, small eyes and no ears. Higdon recalls being Fsomehow transported into a cube shaped UFO which had landed Fnearby. Inside, he saw five elk which were frozen in a Fcompartment beside him. Traveling along U.S. route 3, they Fnoticed a bright object which was moving through the sky Fto the southwest. It looked like a star except that it was Fmoving. Radar operators at Pease Air Force Base which was Fsituated nearby, reported that there was something moving Fthrough the air at that time and in approximately the Fposition reported by the Hills. Barney was driving and he Fstopped the car several times so that his wife could observe Fthe object, which seemed to be pacing the car, through Fbinoculars. There were various flashing lights to be seen Fon the object and it seemed to be an airplane until it Fcurved around and came towards them. They were less than Ftwo miles from North Woodstock when the object came around Fin front of the car and then moved slightly off the road and Fhovered. The two stopped the car and Mr. Hill got out with Fthe binoculars for a better look. From inside the car, Mrs. FHill could hear her husband saying "I don't believe it!". FHe was able to see portholes on the craft and, inside, Fseveral humanoid figures who appeared to be working busily. FMr. Hill got quickly back into the car and the two took off Fdown the highway as fast as possible. They made it home Fthat night, but it was not until much later that the story Ftook a strange turn. FMr. Hill was for some time unable to account for a more than Ftwo hour time loss between the sighting of the object and Ftheir arrival at home. The couple decided to seek profes- Fsional help and were referred by their doctor to Boston Fpsychiatrist, Dr. Benjamin Simon in December, 1963 to try Fhypnotic regression therapy. Mr. Hill's session was Frecorded on audio tape. FUnder hypnosis, Hill recalled being led up a ramp into the Fship and into a type of examination room. He was lying on Fa table where he could feel them examining him with their Fhands. They completed a fairly thorough examination and FMr. Hill was led out of the room, back down the ramp and Fback to the car where Mrs. Hill was waiting. She came Faround and opened the car door for him. FMrs. Hill's recollections were quite similar. She told of Fan examiniation and also of one of the crew members who Fseemed to speak english. She believed that a picture was Ftaken of her skin and a sample collected for later study. FFurther, she claimed that she was also examined internally Fby the use of a needle inserted into her navel. When she Fasked the leader where they came from, he showed her a star Fmap which she was able to duplicate under hypnosis. She was Fthen led back down the ramp and to the car. FIn conclusion, it should be noted that Dr. Simon believed Fthat the abduction portion of the Hill's story was a Ffantasy derived from Mrs. Hill's telling to her husband of Fher dreams. However, over the years so many others, many of Fwhom had never heard of the Hills or their experience, told Fvery similar stories describing humanoids and events Fstrikingly similar to the Hill's. She was awakened by her mother Fwho was concerned that she was lying on top of her bedspread Fwith her colthes and herself covered in mud. FShe had no memory of the events of that evening. FSeveral years later, she underwent hypnotic regression and Fwas able to recall being drawn to her window by a voice in Fher head. She then went outside and walked towards a UFO Fwhich had landed a short distance away. It was in crossing Fthis field that she became covered in mud. FHe was then given back his clothes and taken on a tour of Fthe ship. He tried to take a piece of equipment to prove Fthat he really was there, however, he was prevented from Fdoing so. He was released shortly thereafter. FIn the days and weeks that followed, he noticed strange Fmarks and wounds on his hands and arms. FAntonio Villas Boas died recently and had never withdrawn Fhis claims. It seemed to be following Fhim and he tried to hide in a tree. He strapped himself to Fthe tree so that he would not fall out. Later he saw three Fflying objects with rotating lights approaching him. He Fbelieved that this was a search party sent out to find him, Fso he attracted their attention. The objects landed near Fhim and two small beings with silver suits along with what Fappeared to be a robot came out of one of the craft and Ftried to get Mr. S. down out of the tree. He tried to Ffrighten them off with flaming arrows which he shot at them. FThey subsequently left in one of the craft, the backblast of Fwhich apparently knocked Mr. S. out. When he awoke the Ffollowing day, the UFO and its occupants were gone. Travis FWalton, age 22 at the time, was a member of a seven-man crew Fheaded by Michael H. Rogers, age 28. The crew was thinning Fand stacking timber in the Turkey Springs area of the FSitgreaves National Forest, located in the mountains of Feast-central Arizona. As Rogers described the incident in a Ftape-recorded interview three days later, the crew had quit Fwork around dusk, at about 6:00 pm., on Wednesday, November F5, 1975, was heading up a rough logging road for the ride Fback home to Snowflake, roughly forty-five miles away, via Fthe small village of Herber. Allen Dalis, age 21, sitting Fin the rear of the truck, reportedly was the first to see a Fyellowish glow through the heavy timber. When the truck Freached a clearing, both Dalis and Travis Walton, who was Fsitting in the front seat next to the door, reported seeing Fa saucer-shaped object hovering less than one hundred feet Foff the road, directly over a "slash-pile" of cut timber. FRogers said the object was about fifteen feet in diameter Fand "looked like a flying saucer . . . something I'd seen Fpictures of . . . " F FTravis yelled for Rogers to stop the truck, but before he Fcould do so young Walton opened the door, leaped out and Fwalked toward and neared the object. Travis later recalls: F"I got out of the truck and walked towards it. This may Fhave been a foolish thing but I thought that it might just Ftake off. I got out and tried to get a better look. This Fwas not just a point of light in the sky.. it was very Fclose, you could have thrown a rock and hit it." F FAll the other FIVE men watched as Travis approached the Fobject. Suddenly, however, Travis was struck by an intense Fblue-green light that resembled a lighting stroke. The Fresulting explosive force of the defensive beam threw Travis Fback ten feet unconcious. Stunned and very fearful of what Fhad happened, Mike Rogers turned the truck around and made Fa hasty exit to get away from the thing. About 1/4 mile Fdown the road Mike ragained his sensed realizing what he had Fjust done leaving his friend back there all alone. Mike: "I Frealized about 1/4 mile down the road that I had just taken Foff and left him back there. I turned the truck around and Fheaded back.. several of the men didn't want that at all.. Fthey were very afraid of what could happen to them if they Fwent back to the site." After finding the sight once again, Fno trace of Travis remained. "The thing was gone. Travis Fwas gone. It was a very traumatic experience; the most Ftraumatic experience I've ever encountered. Some thing not Fof this world simply had taken Travis and he was just not Fthere. What would we do? All we could think of was to go Fto the authorities." F FAnd so they did. Mike and the rest of the men contacted the FSheriff's office in nearby Holbrook. The Sheriff from FHolbrook was cautious but not completely dis-believing. A Fmassive man hunt was undertaken under the Sheriff's Fdirections to search for any sign of Travis. No signs were Fleft but the blacken burnt slash left by the object from Fwhere it hovered above. The Sheriff from Holbrook then Fsuspected the men and murdered Travis and buried his body in Fthe woods and that they were using the UFO story as an Faliby. A tough series of grueling hours were spent in Finterrogation but resulted in nothing very conclusive to the FSheriff. All five men agreed to take a lie detector test to Ftry and prove what they saw was indeed very real to them and Ftraumatic. C.E. Gilson administered the polygraph Fexamination reporting that it was the first time he had some Fmany people to work with regarding the same event. Careful Fhours of work were put into the polygraph examination to Feliminate any possiblities of complications due to anxiety. FThe test report as followed: "These polygraph examinations Fpositively prove that these five men did see something they Fbelieve was a UFO and that Travis Walton was not injured or Fmurdered by any of these men, on that Wednesday 5th of FNovember 1975. If an actual UFO did not exist and the UFO Fwas a manmade hoax, five of these men had no prior knowlege Fof a hoax." Signed C.E. Gilson, polygraph examiner. F FFive days had passed before Travis finally returned. It was Fshortly after midnight when Travis called his sister's home Fand her husband, Grant Neff, answered. Travis's voice Fsounded so befuddled, Neff later said, that he first thought Fthe caller was an intoxicated hoaxer and so he started to Fhang up until Travis screamed his identity and begged for Fhelp. Travis was calling from a pay phone at the Enco gas Fstation near Heber. Later they found Travis collapsed on Fthe floor of the phone booth. Travis stood to stand F"inspection" later where there was no bruises or burns Fexcept for a small red scabe-mark on the inside crease of Fthe right elbow. Later blood testing would reveal no drugs Fpresent in Travis's body ruling out drug use as a hoax Fmotive. Travis had lost ten pounds during the five days he Fwas missing and was physically drained. F FLater after lots of recouperation, Travis would relate a Fremarkable story: F F"When I felt the numbing shock, I black out. The next thing FI remember was regaining consciousness. I was laying on my Fback on a table, my head was not very clear and I was in a Flot of pain. The room I was in resembled a hospital and Fthats exactly where I thought I was." Travis then observed Ftwo beings standing over him that terrified him to the Fbreaking point. "I was standing in front of these two Fthings standing there looking at me, these huge eyes just Fseem to just look right through me. I didn't get much Fimpression of emotion; just a kind of observing sort of Femotion to them. They just stood there looking at me and Fham those huge eyes! It looked very much like they knew Fexactly what I was thinking and feeling. These huge eyes Fwere like a window opening and shutting.. I just couldn't Fbare their gaze." Travis grabed a tubular shaped object that Fwas laying over his chest and took a defesive posture. The Ftwo alien beings telepathically felt what Travis was Fexperiencing and left the room noticing an out-of-control Fsituation. Travis then took off through a door down the Fhallway into another room. He approached what appeared to Fbe a control console in the arms of a chair. "There was a Flever there and when I moved that the star pattern in front Fof me moved. It was very disorienting because I saw this Fpattern move and it felt like I was moving as well.. I Ffigured I better not play with that, feeling that I might Fcrash this thing or something. I had by that time surmised Fthat I was in some sort of craft and connected it with what Fhappened earlier in the woods." A new being then entered the Froom but appeared very much humanoid in appearance. "This man Fwas not like those humanoid things I saw ealier. This looked Flike a human being.. like a man in a blue uniform. I went up Fto him thinking that I was being saved, that I was being Frescued." Travis interrogated this tall figure but got no Fresponse. "I could not get him to talk to me.. it was clear Fhe couldn't really understand what I was saying." Travis Fprobed quickly on down the hallway. "A door opened halfway Fdown the hall and the air was very much fresher and easier Fto breathe than the air I was in. The air inside the craft Fwas very heavy and moist.. stifeling." He then probed Fquickly on down through some doors in a hallway to another Froom. There were two more of these human figures who were Fvery muscular in appearance. Travis was detained by the Fthree figures and placed into an unusual contraption Fresembling an examination chair. He was then put out of Fconciousness once again and later remembered waking up five Fdays later dumped in the middle of nowhere. F F"The thing that has brought more frustration into my life as Fa result of all of this happening is the fact that people Fdon't see me anymore, me as a person. I get this feeling of Finvisiblity because of this thing. Every contact I have with Fpeople is filtered through the distorting lens of something Fthat just happened to me 15 years ago. I'm not a deceiving Fliar or crackpot space cadet sort of person. This just Fhappened to me; it could have happened to anyone!" F FTo this day.. many hail Travis's courage while others still Faccuse him of being a liar. He Fwas, however, quiet in manner and thought out responses to Fquestions very thoroughly before speaking. This encounter Fhas obviously changed his life profoundly. He gives the Fimpression of something similar to "Shell-Shock" and he is Fdefinitely not a publicity seeker."
