TIGERS ON THE PROWL CAMPAIGN DISK #1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS.

Unlike the other TOP files and add-on disks, the TOP campaign disks should
not be copied directly to your hard disk using the DOS "copy" command.
Otherwise, there is a risk that some of your other TOP maps may be lost.

To run the campaign scenarios, you must have TOP version 1.14 or higher. If
you need the latest upgrade, please contact HPS. If you received an upgrade
disk along with this campaign disk, it makes no difference which disk you
load first - so long as the upgrade files are loaded before you run the
main TOP program.

To install the campaign files, follow these steps:

1.) First make sure you are in DOS (with the standrard DOS prompt on the
left hand side of the screen - such as "C:\>").

2.) Change the current drive to the one containing the add-on diskette by
typing the drive letter, followed by a colon and <ENTER>. For example, if
the diskette is in drive "A", you would type: "A:" <ENTER>. The DOS prompt
should change as well, in this case to "A:\>".

3.) Type "INSTALL" and hit <ENTER>.

4.) From the pop-up menu, enter the path name containing your TOP program
files. The campaign files MUST be placed into this directory, or they will
not be recognized by the program.

5.) The installation program will copy and modify the campaign files as
necessary. A completion notice will appear when the installation is
finished.

6.) Run TOP normally. A new menu choice will appear on the main menu
screen: "CAMPAIGN GAME". To run a campaign game, select this option.

************************ DESIGNER'S NOTES: ***************************

The battles represented in this campaign disk are quasi-historical.

From a historical perspective, the 7th "Ghost" Panzer Division was actually
engaged against the indicated Soviet forces at the scenario locations on the
days noted. Further, the division and its opponents were issued with the
types of equipment found in the scenarios. The weather conditions are also
taken from historical sources, although care should be taken given the fact
that they may have varied considerably even in the same day.

However, I have taken some liberty in determining the actual force
compositions and tactical objectives. My goal was to keep this campaign's
battles small and fairly quick - in essesence at the battalion level and
30-60 turns. Although, the battles do get larger and more complex as the
series progresses. In line with this objective, players new to tactics or
the TOP interface can use this campaign disk to become more proficient in
both.

Some of the primary information sources I used were:

"Operation Barbarossa", Fugate, Bryan. Presidio Press, 1984.
"Panzer. A Revolution in Warfare", Edwards, Roger. Arms and Armour Press,
1989.
"Encyclopedia of German Tanks in World War Two", Chamberlain, Peter and
Hilary Doyle. Arms and Armour Press, 1993.
"Barbarossa, The Russian-German Conflict, 1941-45", Clark, Alan. Quill
Publishers, 1965.
"The German Army 1933-1945", Cooper, Matthew. Scarborough House
Publishers, 1978.

As with the original TOP maps, all of the campaign battles use the 1941-45
German General Staff 1:100,000 series maps for topography information.

To output this file to a printer, at the DOS prompt type the command:
"PRINT README" and hit <ENTER>.

To install the campaign files now type: "INSTALL" and hit <ENTER>.
