The PGA TOUR has outgrown most of the B.C. Opens on the circuit, but this
proud little community in Endicott, NY has persevered and grown over the past
22 years. It is the only annual TOUR event played on a municipal course. The
current purse was just raised from $800,000 to $900,000 in 1994 and will be
$1 million in 1995; not bad for a community-driven event with no corporate
sponsorship. Coinciding with the Ryder Cup every two years, the Open was played
in the shadow of the inaugural Presidents Cup event this year.

COURSE

For the course layout I used a course scorecard and pairing sheet map. I
also used my photos and sketches of the holes that I made there, as well as
playing several rounds of golf, and based on the past several years that I
attended the B.C. Open. With three par-3's closing out the last five holes of
the En-Joie Golf Club, birdie opportunities are abundant creating some exciting
finishes. Hole number 15, a long uphill par 4 with water to the left of the
fairway which is played as a par 5 during the rest of the year, was rated the
10th toughest hole on the PGA Tour during 1993. The hole rated a 4.416 average
during the tournament.

I made the greens follow the general breaks that are present on the course,
and tried to make the greens fair under normal conditions and challenging under
dry conditions. Pin placements #3-4 are the placements for Saturday and
Sundays' rounds. The B.C. Open logo on the land plot is my interpretation, with
apologies to Johnny Hart, creator of the B.C. cartoon.

I made the O.B. play as heavy rough and used it liberally throughout the
course. The fairways are very tight and I placed trees very heavily and close
to the rough. Several players commented that the course was playing similar
to U.S. Open conditions with the thick rough and fast greens.

I would like to thank John Kunyik for the invaluable help that his JNSE21
Designer Toolbox and Palette Editor provided. To be able to change the color
schemes of the basic JNSE palette really makes it exciting to work on new
objects and backgrounds.

OBJECTS

I have downloaded many courses from the JNSE and JNUG libraries on the
bulletin board at Accolade and Keith Holzapfel's 19th Hole and borrowed objects
from people who have borrowed objects from others. I am not sure who is
responsible for creating most of them, but I'm appreciative of all the gifted
artists that have contributed. I have edited most of these to fit the general
look and palette of the course. I designed the "Coca-Cola Scoreboard", and the
"Yardage Markers" located in the fairways. Feel free to edit these objects and
use them on your courses with no mention necessary.

I really liked the leaves under the trees at The Belfry by Jim Wildenhaus and
Stan Setlik. They credit Lee Ritze's St. Andrews for the "grass" object. With
a little editing, I think they make great "Fall Leaves". If you haven't tried
either of these courses you are missing out, especially coming down the 18th at
St. Andrews; fantastic use of buildings there!

BACKGROUND

This is my first shot at an original background, I played this one pretty
conservatively. It captures the general malaise of the Broome County hills and
overcast skies in September.

1994 TOURNAMENT

The B.C. Open traded starting dates with the Hardee's Golf Classic earlier
this year, with the understanding that there will no longer be any conflicts
with the Ryder Cup or the Presidents Cup again. It was also one of the driest
and sunniest weekends for the Open in recent memory. Missing, were the big
names, no Phil Mickelson, Jay Haas or 1991 champion Fred Couples. Tom Kite, Lee
Janzen, Jesper Parnevik, Chip Beck and Craig Stadler were a few of the notables
that did appear this year, though they didn't make much of a stir on Sunday.
John Daly, who won his second PGA Tournament here in 1992, took the week off for
personal reasons.

Rochester, NY native Jeff Sluman tried to become the fourth upstate New
Yorker to win the B.C. Open title. Wayne Levi from Utica won in 1984, Mike
Hulbert from Elmira won in 1989 and the only two-time champ in 1985 and 1987,
was Joey Sindelar from Horseheads. Sluman lead three days, but stumbled Sunday
afternoon as Mike Sullivan won the third tournament of his career by four
strokes with a 65-67-68-66-266 total. Sluman finished in second with a 270 and
Mike Hulbert and Brian Claar tied for third shooting 272's.

This is the third JNSE design that I have uploaded. My first upload was the
"Big Horn" Golf Club; which I incorrectly named and mentioned throughout my text
file. To all of you who took the time to download that course, thank you; and
please go ahead and rename the course to the correct "Bighorn" (mea culpa). The
other course is the Harbour Town Golf Club.
