Hello, Sysop. I saw an ad. in the Chips & Bits showed that there will be a
SPEECH PACK for the Pagan, is that true? When will it come out? As well, the
FULL SPEECH CD-ROM version you mentioned, when will it come out too? I saw
the ad. of Chips & Bits, the SPEECH PACK of the Pagan will be something
around $20. Is there a big different after install the SP PK than before? If
after installing the SP PK, the floppy version of Pagan will become a FULL
SPEECH version, then there will be lots of disk for the SP PK. Thank you for
answing my questions.

Go to the north part of Tenebrae. Go past the Tempest Palace and back into
the wilderness. There should be a Shepherd lady around there with her
Thorax's. Inside her house you'll find a Rapier and some money. Go ahead and
steal it, most of the time she's not there and will not see you. Also, if
you want a free axe go to the poor part of town to the west. Go into the
wilderness and follow the river to its source. There'll be a waterfall there
with a ghoul. Dodge the ghoul or kill him, climb up the ledge next to the
waterfall and follow it upwards. You'll find a secret cave in there. Watch
out for the skeleton when you first enter. Keep on running and try to avoid
the falling stalactites and stalagmites on the ground. You'll find a chest
behind a gate, pull the lever and you'll get an axe and some armor. Also,
pull the other lever for a neat effect. The whole screen will be upside
down! I don't know what the purpose of this is. Well, there's just a few
tips on how to get some free stuff. If you ever make it to the hermit guy up
on the plateau make sure you steal his 137 coins.

I'am trying to find Lithos the Mountain King but seem to be lost. I have
gotten past the Necromancers and found my way into Stone Cove. After
wandering around there for a million years and using the Golem to open
a few doors, I came too a place called the Pit of Death. As far as I can
see there isn't much there, but I can't think of any other place to go.
Am I way off track, or is the path to Lithos Near. A point in the right
direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. After wandering around the Pit of Death I came across a bug. If you
go to the corner with a torcher chair in it, you can climb up it and
get on top of the catecomb walls.

        I am having a slight problem. I am running on a 486 DX2/66 w/8megs
of ram. I am running QEMM 7.0 as the manager. I am using a SB16-ASP and
the ROLAND SC-50 sound canvas. When I load the program, the intro never
shows. I have to hit the escape key to get to the program. As far as I can
tell, the game is running correctly. Could the problem be with QEMM? The
manufacturer of the board is American Megatrends.

I do have a comment about the parser for the game. I don't like it
that much. I enjoy having the feature of running and jumping with the mouse.
I wish that it was possible to see other parts of the screen. To be able to
move the mouse off the edge of the screen and see whats around. I'm probably
just a novice at the game thus far and will probably grow to use the keyboard
comands more often than the mouse.

Question: will you be releasing a CD-ROM Enhanced version of PAGAN
or is the CD-ROM > Hard Drive the only CD-ROM release?

I was just wondering when the projected ship date of the enhanced cd version
of u8 is? Also, I hope the hint book for U8 is a HECK of a lot more detailed
than the last ones. This is probably one of the hardest games I have ever
played! The hint book should definitely include item locations (i.e. where
keys are hidden!) All in all, FANTASTIC GAME!!!! My girlfriend won't speak to
me because all I've been doing is playing Pagan! I seem to have forgotten to
go to sleep...Troy

Head East after you first walk through the main gates into the city.
Immediately follow the road south then east.Around the southeast corner
of this area of the map is a wooden house with double doors. During the time
of bloodwatch, there will be a girl here. If you have already spoken to the
necromancer, then you will get the option of asking her about the dagger...
GOOD LUCK. Troy

Where is Moriens? After completing the quest for Lithos, the necromancer has
sent me after this guy. I noticed the Key of Scion works on one of the doors
in the upper crypt (one with a plaque mentioning fate), but I've not found
anything behind that door except for the one item in the chest. Is Moriens
here? If no, where is he?

Hi! I just got Ultima 8 and have completed the game up to the point
where I have brought the dagger back to the Necromancer and he begins

the Earth starts shaking and it never quits. I can use ALT-X to

I hate to bother you directly, but you have been the only one to respond to
my msg.

I have searched the poor section of town (SW direction from central
building).
I've spent the last two days searching for her house. I am stuck until I
get my jems exchanged.
I've gotten the hammer of strength, my first spell...and found some deadly
places. (NW of poor section behind water fall) (NE of rich side) and
several pits and pit canverns.

I know the location of the smithy, tavern, the avatar's friends house, and
the woman that be-heads people.
With the above places, could narrow the building down for me. I would
greatly be thankful.

Have you gotten drunk yet( the avatar...not you personnally <grin>).?
or, climbed around on top of buildings...I have found that if the door is
locked, then try to get in from the roof. IT works HEH.

Thanx, again for your help.

I am pretty sure that the jewelers house is in the Southwest part of town.
From the main road (the one that goes through the palace and the bridges)
there are four ways to enter the city. Try the path on the SouthWest. It is
a stone building. It took me three days to find it!!

Subj: Ultima VIII Inventory Control

Great game, runs very nicely on a 486/33, can't wait to get a DX4 and play
it then :). My main complaint is that I have found NO WAY to cancel an
inventory move. Ex: Moving items into the bag for a Necromantic spell. If
I move the wrong item, I MUST transfer either one or all of them, and then
move them back out again. Can't there be a zero on the slider bar? Second,
items take up way too much weight. It is nice to have several different
pictures of different plants and such, but it is very annoying to have 3
separate 2 vials of blood, Executioner's Hood, etc... Each one seems to take
up another stone of weight. Can you make it so those little spell tokens
take up a few less stones? I like having a bunch of them on hand but they
weigh a heck of alot.

I have run bug free so far, and I have finished the Necromancer's quest and
am on my way to see Lithos (where the heck is Stone Cove?). Your
programmers put in a few interesting command line options, ex:restore and
playback. Kind of neat if you want to show people what you did and stuff,
although the tracking file gets pretty large. The options -cheat and -u
both give me General protection faults though. Is there anyway around that?
I saw a few of the different menu options and they looked pretty neat.
Whoever programs down there must be pretty wierd. There were a bunch of
phrases in there, ie: Jely eats cheese!, Why is this here?, I81b4u83 and
OuPb4Ip.

In all, I love it, and can't wait for the next to come out. I hope in the
future version (maybe an update to this one :)) that you could put in key
descriptors in so that they might self identify after you use them or just
change color so you know you have used them before. I wish you had put in
the play guide a few of the small things, such as how the game makes a sound
when you go up a level or when spells wear out. It is slightly annoying at
first to have these sounds going off and not knowing what they are. Please
tell me the difference between the CD version and the disk version also, as
I would like to know if I should wait for the enhanced version to come out
and upgrade then or if the current CD rom has anything different than the
disk version with speech pack. Thanks and keep up the good work!

PS. What is a BarkFidget?

I CAN'T believe that Origin neglected one of the BEST sound cards on
the market!!! (Heck, it's even EASY to program!!) Anyway, I have been
unable to get my GUS working. I've tried almost every conceivable option for
SBOS (version 3.8) to no avail.
Interesting tid-bits for GUSers. NONE of the Midi emulation
programs will work with Ultima 8. I have a Roland MT-32 & every time I load
the emulator, Ultima 8 bypasses it and talks directly to my Roland!! ( it is
connected to a MPU-401) It appears that no software Midi driver is going to
fool Ultima.
I would be interested in knowing if there may be a patch to make
SBOS work with Ultima 8? I know there was one for Ultima 7 Parts 1 & 2.
Origin? Any help for Avatars in need of sound?

west, all of a sudden I would see my guy running with all of his animation

interesting.. Now, Im suppoed to make a golem, but I cant find mud anywhere

mud in the catacombs to get to stone cove, which I cant find???!! I found a

The executioners' hood is east of the EAST ROAD (long road before you head
through to map where Vividos is.) Right before you go north through wall
head East and to the place of the Executioners' Hood.

The WOOD is up in the North portion of West TENABRAE. You will see a ruined

You will find the executioners helm between the cemetery and east
tenebrae, when you exit the cemetery just go south for about 10-15 steps or
so then east and you will run into it.

the sticks are in the poor part of the city to the NW side you will
know when you are close because you will see a ghost and some ghouls. the
sticks are around a tree in that area.

I have not heard of anything like this but you will want to make sure you
install the game with your CD-ROM boot. Then when you try to play the game
make sure that you are using the boots that are in the INSTALL GUIDE. Also,
make sure that you do not have a CD-ROM driver active when playing the game.
Please give configurations, etc. for your computer..

First, we have had problems with other than INTEL chips because of the way
the instructions are processed. Usually a Parity ERROR is a system Halt due
to different speed memory chips, Make sure that all eight megs on your
system are the same speed. Also, try removing sound effects, and playing on
a vanilla boot disk and see if that can get the problem resolved.

Use a strip down boot disk with NO Expanded!!! If you want to use expanded
make sure that you DO NOT have the M9 or /x=e000-efff. Use a vanilla,

I am trying to install U8 and am having an unusual problem: I run the
"install English" program and get as far as seeing the screen "uncrunching
disk 1"--or something like that--when everything just quits. My (oh yah,
it's the CD-rom version) CD-rom's active light stops and so does my hard
drive's. No matter how long I wait, nothing happens. I've even tried
installing the game in the French version (I can speek French, but not as
well as English), but still nothing when I get to that point. You, of
course, probably need more techincal information on my system, but I thought
I would check to see if you've heard of anything like this first. I'll say
this much though: it's a Gateway 2000 486DX2 66 with 16Mb of ram, running a
texel cd-rom. I'll of course provide more if needed.
Much thanks in advance,

Try setting the libpath. The instructions are in the README.TXT file in the
main directory.

I have the same problem, but if I hit escape after it loads up, I get to the
diary, and everything is fine from there on.

I'm runnig a pentium 66 with a diamond viper pci bus, I know I'm missing the
opening sequence, which is very disapointing... if anybody has a soulution
please help... otherwise the game looks great! and I like the new twist to
the avatar struggle! Thanks Origin!

Gerry

Hey, this game looks great but unfortunately I have no idea how it sounds. I
have been unable to get my Ultrasound to work by any means of emulation.
Has anybody else had any luck. I can't believe origin has chosen not to
support one of the most afordable and best sounding cards on the market. Not
a good sign.....

Well, Pagan is cool, although I don't see how you guys got away with making
an actual ULTIMA not take place in brittania.. the title should have been
Ultima: Stranded on Pagan or something... But, The game seems to be a lot
harder than Ultima 7, especially the combat..!! A few tips for eveveryone.
The currency is the obsidian chip, I find that the easiest way to make money
is to first go to that decrepit building, just west of the Nwestern gate of
the castle in Tenebrae, go in there and take some gems, youll get about
four.. sell them to that woman who husband got executed, youll get about 42
obsidian.. Buy an Axe, go either to the plateau(if you've passed the cave)
or out the west gate of tenebrae.. (by the way, the screen is at an angleand
the map isn't labled, so I think of north going toward the NORTHEAST corner
of the screen..

              West North
                   \ /
  the screen ->
                   / \
               south east

Anyway, go out the west exit, and find those Changling guys. They will
most probably look just like you, the avatar, since they are dopplegangers.
Kill those guys, they will give you about 10 obsidian 50 percent of the
time, and they will also give you flasks O' Oil and Chaos and Fire gems,
which are cool.

So now kill a whole lot of those changlngs, and get lots o cash.. like
enough for a broad(long)sword and some armour (buy the armour first, as soon
as you get the cash for it.) Then go through the caves to that one guy on the
plateau (forgot his name, starts with an M i think)nd buy your first
spell.(to get throgh his defenses, just run through the electric gate when
the light is OFF)
Youll want to go see the necromancer next, hes east of tenebrae. hell tell
you to get a dagger from the tempest of tenebrae. You get the keys to the
tempests chest from that girl in the palcae who serves her food, talk to her
to get the key (at her house, during bloodwatch.) I cant figure out HOW TO
UNLOCK THE DOOR TO THE TEMPESTS CHAMBERS.. will someone pleeze tell me where
to ge lockpicks, or the key to her chambers in the palace, or how to bash
down or door or something! This is where I am stuck.. I apologize to any
origin staff for giving away too much of the beginning of the game, but your
walkthrough wasn't quite enough for many people maybe.. I also apologize to
origin for getting so far in Ultima 8 on the second day after it was
released, I guess beating the last 10 Ultima type games gave me some
experience...
Well I hope I helped you all with Pagan, enjoy it!! Ultima only come once
every two years or so!!!!

(and congrats to origin to making such a dark evil atmosphere in the game,
   I love it....)

I installed Ultima 8 from CD ROM and when i try to run it I get an error on
the static\u8fonts.flx file, DOSERROR = 0004 and your error number was 1900.
What could the problem be? I do not have anything installed but EMM386 and
MS DOS mouse driver version 8.2.

In the cave outside of Tenebrae, there are a set of gates. What level
combination allows me to open the thing?

Thanks...
