I have a 386 33 w/4MB of RAM. I noticed something wierd about the game just
recently. I was able to run a SmartDrive cache that was 768k. If you add
that in you'll notice that I'd not have enough memory to run Pagan. Well, I
looked at the install program and it said I was short on memory by quite a
bit. I tried running Pagan and it worked. No lockups or anything, it ran
perfectly fine. I've played for about 4 hours usnig this setup and I can't
get it to screw up. Great game, with or without this setup I haven't
experience any troubles with it locking up or dropping to DOS. It's a bit
slow though, but I was expecting that. It takes a GREAT computer to play a
GREAT game. I thought I heard the playing time was shortened to 25 hours, for
me I think it'll be about 4 times that figure. Especially when it takes me a
half an hour to get across Tenebrae. There are a couple things I don't like
about this. Why is your backpack so small, you can't see what you're holding
if you got a ton of junk in there. It'd be much easier to see if it were
just a little bigger on the screen. It'd also be better if you could hold a
bag on the side of your belt like in U7. Also, why did Origin drop the faces
when you talk to people. I liked it when you could see what they looked like
in closer detail. And finally, the combat part is pretty difficult. I keep
on getting killed by monsters. My problem is that if I make one mistake with
my mouse keypress's my guy will block instead of swinging his axe. I'm
usually screwed when this happens because the enemy will usually knock me
down and start hammering me to death. The second my guy gets back up I get
hammered once again. I think there should be attack keys for the keyboard so
people don't make these kind of mistakes and it's also kind of fatigueing on
my finger. My finger is all numb from pressing it too many times. Well, all
in all I think this game is great even though it's a bit slow on my system.

Flip the levers across the suspension bridge. On the right side all levers
should be pushed, on the left side they should all be pulled. You can tell
by looking at the winch, if it moves then the lever is in the right
position. When you got all that done then pull the lever in the middle, the
screen should shake now. Now go back across and pull that lever near those
gates. The gates will open and you'll make your way out of the cave and onto
the plateau. Check out the hermits house and watch out for those red
mushrooms!

I have just bought the game and run into a few errors the first night
out but they seemed to have dissappeared after I ran the program like twenty
times. What I really want to know is how do I get the dagger for Vividios?
I have the key for the chest from (Armiana?) but I can not get into the
tempest's chambers because the door is locked. Iwant to know how to get in
can anyone please help me? I do not feel like waiting for the hint book.

Hi! I just got Pagan this weekend and have been playing it. I have some
questions and thoughts on it that may (or may not) be helpful.

Small nit-picky things--

It looks like you simply used a computer spell-checker to correct
various bits of conversational text. So far the glaring examples
are when peasants refuse to talk to you because they could "loose"
their lives and when what's-her-name in the north loses her baby
when she went out to get a "pale" of water.

The blacksmith says that he knows everyone, but you can't get any
information from him later about them.

The captain of the guard will only sell you one item at a time,
then says bye.

I'd like some explaination of key rings, as they don't open up
to hold keys that I can use. Do they get used on keys? Do we
presume that there are keys on them already which can be used
on other things? <baffled look>

Things I'm not sure if they are bugs or not--

Rhian isn't in the only house on the west side with a loom, even
though Devon says that she belongs there. Should she be there?

When Araminta asks me to go tell Devon that she finds him
attractive I run off like a good little avatar to give him her
message. When I talk to him there is no conversational gambit
that I can follow to tell him this. I had assumed that she
would tell me something useful later or that she would give
me a key I need for the task.

Things that got left out that I'd like you to put back in--

Nothing *works* anymore. I can't use the wells or the looms or
the ovens or... or... or... One of the things I loved about other
ultimas was all the neat things I could do that were not vital to
the quest but made it feel more like a real world. I even liked
having to feed my people. [BTW--something that hasn't happened
ever, but that I *long* for is: with all that parchment, ink, pens
and seals I want to be able to take them and create a virtual notebook
where I can have all my game notes in electronic, searchable format.
It should be fairly small relative to the size of the rest of the game
and would be really wonderful to have.]

Only some things are named when I click on them. Yes, I like to
be able to click on the grass and see "lawn" or "weeds" or such
pop up. Also everything is "tree" rather than birch or maple etc.
This sort of detail in U7 made me feel like Britannia was tangible.
The land in Pagan seems much less... real. Shallower. Again, a
simple text and database should take much less space than all the
new graphics do.

I want the function back where I could click somewhere and the people
would walk there. My coordination isn't the greatest and I get
frustrated sometimes when I have to try four or five times to get
the avatar through an open door. <grr> It also makes it more
difficult than reasonable to insist that the avatar be placed next
to something to be able to use it. Frequently her body blocks what
I want her to use. Put back the ability to click on any lever she
could see and have her walk to it and use it. It was so useful for
those of us who are not coordinated.

I'd like to see a multiple party again. They offer so much more
scope for strategy and thinking, as well as providing electronic
friends for the avatar--making her seem more real by being able
to interact with others.

I would like a search function added, so I can look under beds,
under carpets, in vases etc.

Things you added that I don't like--

Those pillars I needed to jump to in the North cave nearly made
me return the game. I don't want arcade games; I want RPGs with
maybe a little strategy mixed in. I don't like arcade games, I'm not
good at them and I find them far too frustrating to have *any*
redeeming value. <large weight off chest>

Things I'd like you to add--

Cyberman support, my husband just got me this new toy and I need games
for it now. <g>

Things you did that I like--

I like using regular memory managers. That makes it much easier to
set up and to use. A big plus.

I like the new graphics, they are very pretty.

I like the jump features. Best thing in the new catagory--now if I
could only reach out and grab those damn pillars in the cave <g>.

The new fighting is good for some people and I approve. However,
would it be possible to put in a switch so us terminal klutzes don't
screw up perfectly good fights? I liked the old system better for
myself.

Overall Pagan is a good game, above average in the market so far; but
disappointing with respect to previous Ultimas in the matters I've
mentioned. I like it, but not as much as I liked 7 and 7.5.

Hope this helps your marketing and development people.

Bye for now,

Jennie

Well, a boot disk didn't fix it, but reinstalling it did. BTW, what IS
an error DO12, etc? A listing of error codes would be nice. I know it's
very hard to diagnose these kind of problems, because I do tech support for
hardware myself. But usually you get an idea of what it could be...it dos
help to be right there and check .bat's and .cfg's and the like. I live to
make any software work on any hardware that it is supposed to be compatible
with. These days I'm selling to dealers, you'd surprised how many of them
sound like an end user. What ARE they doing selling this stuff? It's not
like just selling tv's or other appliances. Rob H

Hello, my name is Kelvin. I recently bought Pagan and its Speech Pack from
a store today... and I tried to install it. The first time, installation was
successful... until I ran u8. ...it got to 100% uncompression, and started
to load the program... and then it stopped. I had to reset the computer,
and when I tried running it again (using one of your boot disk options,
adding a line for Stacker also), it loaded... I tried loading and saving, but
each time it gave me a Divide overflow error. ...I have a Gateway 486 66Mhz
...and I got that BIOS upgrade installed already. Anyway, I installed
again, and ran u8 again... it had a divide overflow at 13% uncompression.
Again, I tried and it stopped at 66% uncompression. ...I then changed a
line in the config.sys from DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 1024 RAM

        to

DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 4096 RAM... it worked, successfully... I could
load and save... but then at the crossroads (where the guard pointed at
three directions) I tried walking to the "poor" area (left)... when I left,
the screen faded to black, the music continued, and nothing happened. I
also forgot to mention that every so often I ran "U8 -TEST" and each time I
got a divide overflow when testing the shapes file. Thanx for your
patience, bye.

Hi,
I too have experienced the major slow down reported by others.
I have a Gateway p5/60 so i dont think its the pc. I've noticed that
it seems to happen only after repeated save/load actions that are
necessary in areas with the moving platforms, rising stones, etc.
Restarting the game will solve the problem of the slow down (untill you try
to load again). In addition to the slow down, some objs (walls, floor, etc.)
seems to go haywire and randomly change shape. Very wierd. The only place
this has happened to me (so far) is in the Hall of the Mountain King.

Part 2
I stuck.
I met the Mountain King, interred the Necro, now Im supposed to visit
Moriens birthplace. Where is it? Vividos said it was in the Upper
catacombs.
But I cant find it. Could someone give me some sort of directions?
Or perhaps, what it is close to? Also, there is a door with a plaque
that reads "You travel towards your fate" or some such, but I cant find the
key to open the door. Any help? Thanx

Subj: Ultima 8 (what else...? *grin*)

Hiya DanO...
Bought Pagan on Friday the 25th *cheers Babbages for promptness*
Been playing it all weekend since...I have a few questions...
(1) When I am in the cave northeast of tenebrae (the ghost's cave--magic
armor, etc..), when I get to the last big room, everything slows way down...I
climbed to the third level and found all the ghouls and the ghosts and my
computer slowed way down--I have a 486DX2/66, 8 meg ram, s3805 vlb, 14ms-240M
HD, in other words, the works...should this game really be pushing the limits
of a 486/66? My config is optimal...
        Device=c:\dos\himem.sys
        Device=c:\dos\emm386.exe ram 4194
        Dos=High,Umb
        Files=40
        Buffers=40
That's it, and smartdrv is at 1024 in autoexec...there are NO other device
drivers being loaded AT ALL...no CDROM, nothing...just the bare necessities.
Also, this slowdown occurs independent of any hard drive access so I am
assuming this is a processor-intensive thing...
(2) I found a few bugs (nothing big...I know you guys really tested this
one so I can't criticize, it has been playing quite well so far)
        (a) When you jump off of the Seneschal's western wall to the tree
stump, and then to the wooden building with the rail around it, if you let
go of the rail instead of climbing up, you fall 'in between' the wall of the
house, allowing you to either walk in or out (wallwalk?)
        (b) In the cave northwest of Gwillim's/Corinth
house, after you jump from stone to stone, there is a spot somewhere along
the ground before that first ledge that lets you walk in to the wall and
'under' everything--kinda spooky, it let me walk right out of the picture
and into complete blackness.
There were a few more, but I am forgetting them just now...nothing
big, just silly little things us nitpicky gamers notice *grin* The game is
very playable, however so I am not complaining...as I said, the only thing
that bugged me was the whole slowdown thing in that room...I kinda figured I
had a fast enough computer--do I need to go out and buy the new DX/4 clock
tripler (100Mhz) now?

Thanks,
Matt Peckham

Okay...I bought a copy of Ultima 8...and the first time I tried to install
it, it didn't work, 'cause I was running a disk cache program with it, the
second time, everything went perfectly, installed everything, and
decompressed the shapes file. When I start playing, every once in a while,
the game will kick me out to DOS and print the error message: "FATAL ERROR
286.3330: GENERAL PROTECTION FAULT DETECTED" and will run off a list of
registers...I tried running U8 -TEST and when I scanned the files, it says
the U8SHAPES.FLX file failed the check....is this because the original
diskettes are defective or what? I tried installing it several more times
and had the ssame results...I'm running it on a 486DX/33 with 4 megs of
RAM...I have a PAS16 hooked up to IRQ 5 and DMA 1, address 220. I have
MS-DOS v6.2 and I am using the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files specified
on a boot disk. Should I return the disks or what is the problem?

Are you using a BOOT DISK. If not what is the configuration you are running
now. You will want to try an extended memory boot first. Also, you will want
to make sure that you try and turn off the sound and see if you can get past
the scene. If so, then you probably have an IRQ conflict and will want to
give me the setting of your sound card.

Jon,

You will want to try this line from your DOS prompt:

set libpath=c:\ultima8

This has worked for some but I have not been able to track down the exact
solution. Also try an extended boot with:

CONFIG.SYS
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
dos=high
files=40
buffers=40

AUTOEXEC.BAT
prompt $p$g
path c:\dos

Who makes your Mouse. Also, switch your sound off and when you get the game
running you will need add it back in and see what happens.

You will probably want to try the extended memory boot.

CONFIG.SYS
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
dos=high
files=40
buffers=40

AUTOEXEC.BAT
[your mouse driver]
path c:\dos

See if this can get you going. Also, turn you sound off then install. After
that, if it works add the sound back in and see what happens.

Please leave your config.sys and autoexec.bat (Normal off system) So, I can
see what you have.

purposes, I have an Intel 486DX2-66 with 20MB RAM, 450 MB HD, running QEMM
7.03. I can also run EMM386 if necessary, thought QEMM is better. I am
familiar with setups and writing batch files, so the error most likely isn't
there. Here is the error code:
        Filename=static\typeflag.dat
        Mode=ReadWrite
        Error=1910
        DOS Error=0004
        Source=None
        Program halted by code.
I would really appreciate it if you could interpret this error for me. To
top it off, the error also affects my Wildcat! BBS software and I can no
longer run my board. However, so far Pagan and Wildcat! seem to be the only
programs affected (Wildcat! also gives the DOS Error 4 message). The problem
first appeared when I tried to load Pagan after already having made a
savegame. I turned the computer off, then came back later and encountered the
program when I tried to run U8.
                                        Thanks

Hi, Dan Orzulak.
How are you doing?
I want to ask several questions about the pagan.
I bought pagan yesterday, but I am having troubles to install.
I have 486Dx2 computer with 8M Mem, Pro audio spectrum16.
I also have QEMM7.0 memory manager.
I also bought speech pack.
First, I tried to install pagan with QEMM, but it wound not run.
So, I made a boot disk just as installation guide suggest me.
I followed exactly what it says.
But, I got error message. That is "divide flow error."
I used Win3.11 Emm386.exe for mem. manager.
I don't know how to do now.
Please, give me answer as soon as possible.
I look forward your answer.
Thanks.
PS. I have DOS5.0.

You should just need a boot disk and you should be fine. Also, you have the
latest version of the game so you should be fine.,

Lever Puzzle- Just look at them... Studying closely you will notice dead
parts by three of them, just pull those and then the main one in center.
Easiest way, would be those 3 facing right and the rest of levers to left.

The main problems, I have seen are with USER configurations. Please list

If you look in Readme.txt it will tell you to type:

Set Libpath=c:\ultima8

this should get the game up and running.

I think you are using the patch for General Midi to MT-32 which is a

Try turning off the sound. It has to be that or a bad setup. If you turn off
the sound and it runs then you are probably having an IRQ setup. If you have
a printer I bet that is the problem you are having, it is best to set your
IRQ to five.

You can send them in to the Origin. Look at the warrenty on any of the

An enhanced CD-ROM version will be coming out a few months from now. The
CD-ROM version that is out now is just a distribution media.

Pirates are still friends because you killed 56 hunters, 22 militia, and a
merchent. You will have to kill five times the number of good people in order
to change your alignment.

As far as used games, We do not send them out, that is all I can say. We do
not and can not control the games once they are sent to the individual

way you can be assured of the copy you receive.

I have the CD version of Stygian Abyss and for fun loaded it up again after
over a year. If I try to talk to anyone, I get error DO12, Ultima can't run
anymore. 486/33, sbclone, 4 meg, QEMM 7.03, no dblspace. I don't recall any
trouble when I first played it, even finished it. EVerything else such as
ZORK, Doom, KQVI cd, etc, runs fine, even Encarta...Any clues what to look
for? In the mean time I will make a boot disk, with as little as possible in
it and still have the requisite EMS amount. I have gotten pretty far in the
game without talking to anyone, but there are those clues you only get from
talking to the characters. Wasn't there a patch, besides the one for fast
video cards and inventory problems? Rob H

I have a problem with the installation program. Actually, I think the problem
is probably Disk 1. It keeps saying Internal Error! Install.C - 248, Error
#0001. I read that it was due to bad or corrupted files. I was wondering if
it was possible to acquire a copy of Disk 1, and Disk 1 only. Those are the
files I think I need.
While I was installing, my mother demanded control of the computer, and I
stupidly re-booted while it was uncrunching disk 1. After that, I kept
getting the above message every time I tried to reinstall. If this is the
wrong message area, please redirect it to the proper topic.

Actually, I am having no problems running the game, like I've
noticed most other questions are about. I am stuck! I am beginning my
apprenticeship as a Necromancer, and was busy doing "questy" things when the
palace gaurds told me that Bentic was executed, Devon was in prison, and I
am being watched!! Well, I stopped my Necro stuff to talk to Devon.
O.k.... I notice Bentic's diary locked up. HOW DO I GET INTO THAT ROOM!!!
Where Bentc's diary is?! I'm assuming I need it to figure out what's going
on, maybe take it to bridge, and stop the execution. Figure Devon is the
one to take my off this hunk of land, to the island.

Hello,
First, let me allow myself a little luxury here and vent some
frustration. Over the past 5 yrs. or so, Origin has undertaken som eof the
best and most ambitious PC projects around. However, Origin QA is a bit...
disappointing. NEVER have I been able to go home with a game,
install it, and have it work right off. Usually, the bugs are insidious,
taking days or weeks to bomb my game permanently, but with U8, it took me
all of 5 minutes to crash it. Is this the modern form of piracy protection?
Deliver a product that is deliberately unworkable, make the customer seek
you out, possibly incurring charges like long distance and definitely having
to devote time and effort to getting it fixed, and, some would say worst of
all, having to give out private information which is really none of a
business' business knowing, so to speak (why didn't the new user database
ask for three references and my mother's maiden name, too?)? (Oh, and, did
I read correctly in an earlier post that you don't test on anything but
INTEL?!? Is this a democracy? Can I vote the policy down?)
But, forgive me, I'm just a little frustrated at the moment. I'm
grown up now. Software has bugs, no one wants to release a product that
gives off a bad repuation. And, to your credit, Origin has been remarkable
about sending me bug fixes over the years. (Thank you for that.) I would
like to suggest you do something akin to the Unix distribution scheme:
PUBLISH a list of versions that have been released to the public along with
KNOWN BUGS. It's okay to publish with small bugs (I suppose), especially if
there are workarounds and *especially* if the purchaser knows up front what
s/he's getting. I would really like to see a News section (ie, NOT
somewhere I can post, so I don't have to wade through a sea of messages like
this one) devoted to versions, caveats, known bugs of all products.
        Thanks for your time,
        -Rorke.

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the correct way to get information,
but I need help with getting Ultima VIII working on my system.
I recently purchased it (this morning) and am calling from Ohio,
so if you could mail me at the following address, I'd be able to
read yoru reply without costing me an arm and a leg. Thanks.

I'm at:
jkocsis@bigbird.cs.ohiou.edu

Here is my concern,
I have the CD version, and a Gateway 2000 system with 12 Megs of RAM.
I have the config.sys and autoexec.bat files correct (according to
the manuals). It will install correctly, and then I go to load it
and it uncompresses the shape files (that also works fine).

But then I go to load it and it displays:

Filename = static\typeflag.dat
mode = readwrite
error= 1910
DOS Error= 0004
Source = None
Program halted by code.
Rest, Avatar...you will need it!
----
Does that mean I have a bad disk? Or is something still
not configured right. I really want to play it. 8-)

Your help is greatly appriciated...
Again if you could reply to
jkocsis@bigbird.cs.ohiou.edu

so I don't have to make a long-distance call again,
I'd greatly appriciate it.
Thanks,
Jeff Kocsis

Was unable to locate a PAGAN area on the BBS. Can you forward this message
to PAGAN techincal support? If not, Oh well, I guess I will be returning
it. Otherwise:

1) Why do I get lockups (without an error message) when moving from one
'region' to another? I just got into the city and so far it has locked
several times - I have reinstalled the SW three times - even when JUST
entering the city. The screen blanks as it loads the next region and
poof... Never Never land - no hard drive activity, no keyboard control - Have
to Power Down and try again. I have a Gateway 2000 486DX2/50 w/8Meg RAM,
used the suggested CONFIG.SYS & AUTOEXEC.BAT from the installation manual.
Using DOS 6.2 multi-config to implement the boot.

2) Wandering (looked like I could move from region to region after the last
installation) and POOF!! - BIG bold 'DIVIDE OVERFLOW' error message on the
screen.

Bleck! Any suggestions? I do have a CompuServe account (Either Dan Drake
or Dennie Heeter) and would appreciate some assistance. I AM VERY good with
computers (I do technical support for about 200 folks professionally.) but I
don't have any problem solving errors or messages to relay to you folks.

PS - Seems like you should get that PAGAN region activated soon...

THANKS
  DAN

PPS: I already have Privateer, Ultima VII, VII - Serpent Gate, WC I & II,
Ultima Underworld I & II and the little Mini-Ultima VII Forge of Virtue - I
have had pretty good luck getting them to work. Thanx

same with thunder, explosions, etc.). I noticed the same thing with Ultima

1. 35 megs for the game, 5 for the speech pack.
2. We don't recommed Disk Compression because it slows game down.
3. It uses protected mode programming.
4. Shipping, etc. is out of our control that depends on the individual

It has to do with what the computer is processing at the time you INTERRUPT
(IRQ-Interrupt Request) the Processor to do DMA (direct Memory Access)
transfers. Very Fast and Efficient. But, when sharing the signals get messed
up. You really want a standard 486 board. WE only TEST with INTEL. Also, a
386 is too slow to play the game.

You will need a BOOT DISK with those drivers not loaded. I have not used or
messed with Stacker 4.0, so it would be best to speak with them and you will
be able to make a BOOT DISK with no compression drivers on them. OR give me
your Config.sys and Autoexec.bat and I will try to narrow it down for you.

There is a lever you pulled in a room just below that area. Just go down to

Hi Dan, long time no talk to...I used to be on here last fall a lot but
upgraded my computer(and neglected buy a modem until now).
Well, anyway--I am standing at the front of the line to buy Ultima VIII
right now here in Omaha, NE. I have it on hold at two stores and am going
to take whichever gets it first...
I have a 486DX/2 66Mhz DECpc LPx, VLB (the S3 805), 8 meg ram, large hard
drive (240), SB16 w/Waveblaster and just want to make sure Ultima VIII will
run optimally--that is, I know it will run, but will it run without slowing
down at all with a machine as fast as mine? Is my s# card fast enough VLB?
(There are faster cards...I only have 1 megram for instance...)
Lastly, today is Thursday the 24th...are we still on for the 25th here in
Omaha, NE? Could it be possibly that the game will actually hit here today?
Tommorrow? (I guess what I'm really asking is--has the game actually left
duplication and is already enroute via whatever shipping company Origin
uses?)
Sorry for so many question...thanks in advance!

Subj: Strange Purchase of Privateer
Next Reply is Message #403

Hello there. I am reporting a very strange sting of events which followed my
purchase of Privateer. I purchased it from an "Electronics Boutique" in West
Oaks Mall in Houston, Texas about a month and a half ago I'd say. I was on a
tight schedule to get to work which is 45 minutes away from Houston so I left
immediately but couldn't wait to open my game and look through the
documentation while I was driving. (Safe, huh?)
When I opened my shrink wrapped box I looked at the disks and mistook the
Disk numbered "1" for a "7" ... easy mistake but I was mad and drove back to
the mall to ask the man who sold it to me, I think he was the manager. I
wasn't far away from the mall, I'd just left the parking lot and still had a
little time, but I *was* in a hurry.
Before I got to the store to ask the man why there was a disk missing,
which there wasn't, my mistake, I also found in the box *which I just opened*
a receipt from a nearby Gas Station/Car Wash on Memorial Drive. It was a
Chevron. There was a full statement of services with a man's name on it as
well as a description with all that was done to his car. Now, I don't think
this was included in EVERYone's box nor was it a gift from the Avatar, so I
asked the Manager if he recognized it.
He took it *Mistake Number 1* and said, "No, but let me get you another
one, you shouldn't have to have a used game. I just got this from the
warehouse the other day. Oh no, I don't have anymore." Well, he verified
that I had all the disks, the proper manuals, and also, a Wing Commander II
(!) manual that shouldn't have been in there. He said, Sorry, I'll look into
this for you. ... *He kept my receipt and the Chevron bill* ..
I hurried to work and got there a little close for comfort but no damage
done. I was very disturbed that I got a used copy of this game and was also
worried of course. I was telling my co-worked of the situation and we were
*sorta* laughing at it and I was mad because I had lost my receipt. At that
point I looked in the box again to show my friend the WCII manual and found
another receipt, THIS ONE FROM BABBAGES AT TOWN AND COUNTRY MALL, also in
Houston. This receipt was dated December!! I bought this in FEBRUARY or Late
January!!! (there was also a toothpick in it, gross!)
My problem is I don't know what to do. I've enjoyed your game
tremendously and have since purchased the Voice Pack (at another store) and
have had no problems.
Can you recommend a choice of action? I really don't like the events
surrounding this and don't appreciate the practice of whoever was involved in
this. I also don't like the idea of paying for a game someone else copied
for free (I assume that's the case, I think you know what I mean).
                        Thank you for your response.

I can be reached at P.O. Box 8, Garwood, TX, 77442.

The best memory manager by FAR is QEMM. The latest 7.2 version freed up 634k

Privateer, but I haven't used it with Strike. Ask our venerated sysop about
it, though I'm almost sure it will work.

Later.

There are only 5 Retroes that attack. Each Retro ship will be destroyed if
it takes 2 immediate missle hits. Just get a good angle on ships. Either
Head On or Following then fire a set. If they both hit he is dead. That
totals out to 10 missles for 5 kills with Extra for Misses.

Error D002 means that the SOUND CARD you have is sharing an IRQ or it is not
installed correctly. You will want to make sure that you are not using IRQ 7
if you have a printer, look in your manual and it should be able to tell you
how to set up the card to use IRQ five or talk to the manufacturers at
Gateway. Also, try selecting NO SOUND CARD for both speech options and sound
and save those options and see if it works from there.

I was formerly playing Ultima 7.5 on a doublespaced drive by pressing the
CTRL-F8 key combo to bypass loading of the dblspace.bin driver, which gave me
enough free lower memory to run the game. I recently upgraged to Stacker
4.0, and much to my displeasure, the ability to bypass loading the driver is
removed. I now have no way to play my game. Is there anyway to run the game
with stacker 4.0 and qemm 7.03 or emm386? Or do you know anyway to bypass
loading the stacker driver? I have been unable to reach stac tech
support...Thanks for your time! Still waiting on the answer to my other
question...still having bad headers in your messages? Let me know...C-Ya!!

Hi there! You may have just recieved a message from the BBS Computer
that there are two people with the same home/data/business phones. Well,
those two people would be me. I am just curious, am I "Rick Sanford" or is
there a "T" at the end of my last name? That's the reason why I re-did the
name. Oh well.
Tell Jennifer Mason that Rick says Hello and to get on this Node so
that I can write her directly! Other than that, thanx for being here!
        As Ever
        Rick Sanford

Seems I forgot my password <slaps self upside head>. If you could delete the

I know I'm butting in, but...
I had similar problems (with a 486/66 no less)
What version of DOS do you have? The new version has several utilities that
might help you free up memory. Have you used MEMMAKER?
