1. System Requirements

Hardware Requirements
* Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) compatible computer ('386 or
  greater)

* Six MB disk space

* Minimum 2 MB RAM

* Super VGA  recommended (640 x 480 resolution @ 256
  colors)
  * If your display system is set up for only 16 colors, images
will appear grainy. See Troubleshooting Tips for possible
     solutions.
  * If your system is set up for higher resolution (800 x 600
or 1024 x 768), you may want to order higher resolution
images. See enclosed Add-ons Order Form.

* Optional for sound: Windows-compatible sound hardware

Software Requirements:
* Microsoft Windows 3.1 (or greater) or Windows 3.0 and
  After Dark(R) for Windows.
Screen savers can be set up as either Windows 3.1 screen
savers or After Dark screen savers. See Installation for
  further information.
* Optional for sound: Windows multimedia sound driver (for
Windows 3.1) or Windows 3.0 multimedia extensions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Installing FLIGHT
  1. Start Microsoft Windows.
  2. Insert Disk 1 in your 3.5" drive (Drive A or B).
  3. From Program Manager, select File menu and choose
     Run.
  4. Type A:\SETUP (or B:\SETUP) and press ENTER.

Follow instructions on the screen. A variety of messages could
be displayed during installation depending on your system
configuration. The messages are listed below.

If your system has limited disk space, the message will indicate
the amount of disk space you need to free up.

If your system supports only 16 colors, the message will indicate
that images will appear grainy.

If your system has After Dark installed, the message will ask whether
you want your screen savers installed as After Dark or Windows screen
savers.

If you specify After Dark as your screen saver, you will get a
message during installation telling you how to set up After Dark.
FLIGHT will automatically install the screen savers in your After
Dark directory. You must rebuild the After Dark control panel for
them to show up in the list of screen savers. To rebuild the
control panel, hold down the "Ctrl" key when double-clicking on
the After Dark icon in the Program Manager or on the Desktop.
For further information, see "Adding New Modules to After Dark"
in your After Dark Users Manual.

During installation, FLIGHT copies 1.7 MB of Dynamic Link
Libraries (DLLs) into the Windows system directory. The
purpose of DLLs is so that all programs running under Windows
can share libraries and save disk space since only one copy is
needed for several programs.

See the PACKING.LST file on Disk 1 for a listing of directories,
files and Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs) that FLIGHT creates on
your hard disk during installation.

3. FLIGHT Features

Each of the following six features can be accessed from the main
FLIGHT menu:

Aircraft Fly-Bys
A visual, easy-to-use aircraft reference containing vital statistics
on each of the over 40 aircraft images. You can also view full-
screen images by selecting Full View in the Aircraft Fly-Bys
menu. (16-color display systems cannot access Full View.)

Aircraft Slide Show
Randomly displays each of the aircraft images at a rate you
specify. You can set the slide show to view small or full-screen
images.

Air Events Calendar
Provides dates and details of many popular air events in the U.S.
and Canada and some international air events.

Make Wallpaper
Converts any FLIGHT aircraft image into Windows wallpaper.

Screen Savers
Lets you assign a FLIGHT screen saver to be run as a Windows
screen saver when the system has been idle for a defined period
of time. Three FLIGHT screen savers are available: a B-25
Bomber, a Crop duster and Skydivers. After Dark versions are
also included and can be set up from After Dark. (During
installation, you must choose to install screen savers either as
Windows or After Dark screen savers.) NOTE: FLIGHT screen
savers do not include sound.

System Sounds
If you have sound hardware, you can assign over 15 aircraft
sounds to various Windows events. Also, aircraft sounds will
be played when different FLIGHT windows are opened. These
sounds can be disabled in FLIGHT's System Sounds window.

4. Troubleshooting Tips

> If your system supports only 16 colors and image quality
    suffers:

Super VGA display support (640 x 480 resolution at 256 colors)
is recommended for FLIGHT. If your system supports only 16
colors, aircraft images will appear grainy and you will not be able
to view full screen images.

To find out how many colors your system supports, select
Windows Setup from the main group in Windows. The Display
section in Setup should mention how many colors Windows is
using. If the display listed is VGA, you are probably using only
16 colors.

If your system is capable of supporting 256 colors, you should
change your system to support 256 colors. When your system
supports 256 colors, small aircraft images will appear to be of
slightly higher quality than full view images.

If your system is capable of supporting more than 256 colors,
you may want to change your system to support more than 256
colors. This will give you the best possible image quality at all
image sizes.

To change your system to support more colors:

Refer to the manual that came with your video graphics adapter
card to learn how many colors your video card is capable of
supporting and to change the Windows driver to 256 or more
colors. You can also contact your computer hardware
manufacturer for additional assistance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

> If small images are higher quality than large:

When your system supports 256 colors, small aircraft images will
appear to be of slightly higher quality than full view images.

If your system is capable of supporting more than 256 colors,
you may want to change your system to support more than 256
colors. This will give you the best possible image quality.

To change your system to support more colors:

Refer to the manual that came with your video graphics adapter
card to learn how many colors your video card is capable of
supporting and to change the Windows driver to 256 or more
colors. You can also contact your computer hardware
manufacturer for additional assistance.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

> If wallpaper or full view image has a border:

Full view and wallpaper images are stored at 640 x 480
resolution. If a border appears around your wallpaper image,
your display system is configured at higher resolution, either at
800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

See the enclosed Add-Ons Order form for how to order higher
resolution images that cover the entire display.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

> If system performance suffers:

If you leave the Aircraft slide show running while opening other
windows or applications, the slide show could occasionally slow
the performance of your system as it retrieves each image from
the hard disk.

Disable the slide show to improve system performance. Select
Options from the main menu bar, then select slide show. Select
Disable on the pull down menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. Uninstalling FLIGHT

When you install FLIGHT, an Uninstall icon will appear in your
FLIGHT program group window. This Uninstall program removes
most of the files that FLIGHT copies onto the hard disk when it is
installed.

During installation FLIGHT copies 1.7 Mbytes of Dynamic Link
Libraries (DLLs) into the Windows system directory. The
purpose of DLLs is so that all programs running under Windows
can share libraries and save disk space since only one copy is
needed for several programs.

Since it is highly possible that the DLLs that FLIGHT copies to
the hard disk are used by other applications, the FLIGHT
uninstall procedure does not delete these files. If you would like
to delete these DLLs manually, there is a list of the files copied
to the hard disk in the PACKING.LST file on Disk 1.
