        A walk in the city

I The city is a wonderful place, moving to and fro
You see important people, with important places to go
Business suits and attaches, if you've got it, flaunt it
To make it in the city, you've really got to want it

II Passing from that area, the city starts to change
The air here feels much thicker, the sky seems slightly strange
The people aren't so happy here, their movement's not so quick
The streets are lined with papers, scraps, and little bits of brick

III Row houses all the same, children playing in the street
You feel a little uncomfortable for everyone you meet
For they all look so weary, desperation in their eyes
So this is what you look like when your hope for the future dies

IV A man in a long brown coat is talking to the air
No one stops to tell him that there isn't anyone there
A man holds up a sign that says "I will work for food"
He desperately scans the crowds, but no one's in the mood

V A body lies before you covered by the daily news
You wonder if he died, or simply stopped here for a snooze
You quickly pass on by, you quicken up your pace
You had no idea the city was such a hideous place
