                          Harrier Jump Jet
                          ----------------

1. The details on the Tactical Compass Display (defaults to
left-hand MFD) have been changed to aid the playability of
    the simulation.
The dots have now been colour-coded as follows:
Blue dots - aircraft 250ft or more below you
Orange dots - aircraft within 250ft above or below you
Red dots - aircraft 250ft or more above you
        Green dots - ground objects
        Red tracers - infra-red (heat-seeking) missiles
White tracers - pulse radar guided missiles
Yellow tracers - doppler radar guided missiles

2. As a further enhancement to the simulation, we have added
a joystick sensitivity option. There are three settings -
High, Medium and Low. The default setting is high, but
you may find this too sensitive for your liking. You can
access this feature either by way of the in-game Menu bar
(Press Esc, select Config, Control, & then Joystick
Sensitivity), or by pressing the 'J' key on the keyboard.
This key toggles between the three options.
The simulation also supports joysticks with integral
    throttle controls.

3. Weapon Locking Modes - Easy mode has been amended to allow
you only to lock onto targets displayed in the tactical
compass MFD, and only targets in a forward 120 degree arc.
Moderate mode is similar, but only allows you to lock onto
targets in a forward 90 degree arc.
In addition, easy mode will auto-lock onto targets, without
having to first acquire the target using 'backspace'.

4. The 'dogfight' option has been enhanced by the inclusion of
a score as well as a straight 'number of kills'. The dogfight
score is closely linked to the number of shots the player fired
during the dogfight. Missiles are automatically resupplied
after every 12 kills. Make those bullets and missiles count!

5. The autopilot can be switched off as stated in the manual
by pressing the 'A' key, or in addition by moving your
specified controller at any time. (i.e. Move the joystick
    or press the cursor keys).

6. We have included an auto-landing feature in the simplified flight
model only. This will land the Harrier when the autopilot is on
and the player is close to base. This allows the player to
gradually get to terms with the unique handling qualities of
an attack jet which can hover!

7. It is important to remember, when flying the Harrier, that it
flies like no other jet. In addition to the extra controls for
the nozzles, the aircraft also has an unusually high roll rate
which, for an unarmed Harrier, exceeds that of even the F-16
    Fighting Falcon.

8. It should also be noted that auto-hover is a feature of the
game, and not a simulation of a real Harrier system.

9. Because of the memory and graphic intensive nature of Harrier
Jump Jet, you must have at least 1Mb of RAM on your computer.
In addition, there must be 613,376 bytes free in order to run
the simulation, which means you have to load DOS into a high
memory area. To keep things simple we have included a program
called 'Bootmake' with the game, which will automatically
configure a floppy disk that will enable you to boot your
computer with the correct memory requirements. As part of the
procedure, the current path and any mouse driver found in your
startup files, will be automatically copied across to the boot
    disk.

10. You may ntice that the engine thrust will drop off automatically
if it is left at 100% for too long. This is a simulation of the
Digital Engine Control System ( DECS ). This system reduces the
thrust of the engine stopping the Jet Pipe Temperature ( JPT )
getting high enough to damage the exhaust nozzles.
When using a a joystick throttle control it is advisable to
reduce your throttle to aprroximately 89% when the DECS system
    drops the thrust.

11. Thrustmaster Weapon Control System key changes:

    (a) New keys
Left Shift - decrease nozzle angle
        t - Targetting mode

    (b) Changed keys
        0 - Gear toggle
                         - Auto-hover is now Shift-0
        Keypad 0 - Gear
                         - View rotate is now Shift-Keypad 0
        Keypad . - Set salvo to 2
                         - View rotate now on Shift-Keypad .
        Enter - No action
        x - Drop Flare

    (c) Moved keys
        @ - Designate target ( normally Backspace)
        v - Cycle right MFD ( normally x )

12. And finally .... a special thanks to those who helped produce
Harrier Jump Jet and didn't appear in the credits. So here we
