Microsoft(R) File and Print Services for NetWare(R) Release Notes

Thank you for participating in the release candidate test release of Microsoft(R)
File and Print Services for NetWare(R). Please read these notes and the
Administrator's Guide before you install this product.

Microsoft reserves the right to make additional performance and user interface
changes to this product before the official retail release. Do not publish any
results from any performance tests run against this release.

New Features
------------------
The following lists the new features added to the product since the January
beta release:

*	Support for PowerPC-based systems.

*	Support for login scripts for NetWare client users. Also, when you
use the Migration Tool for NetWare to migrate users from their
NetWare server to the File and Print Services for NetWare server, the
users' existing login scripts can be migrated.

*	Better performance, especially when NetWare clients log in to the server.

*	The CHGPASS.EXE utility and its support files, RPC16C1.RPC,
RPC16C6.RPC, and SECURITY.RPC, are included with this release.
The CHGPASS.EXE can be used from either a NetWare client or a
Microsoft client computer, and changes both a user's Windows NT
	and FPNW passwords.

CHGPASS.EXE utility now included
---------------------------------------------
This release includes the new CHGPASS.EXE utility, which a user can use
from either a Microsoft client or NetWare client computer to easily change
both the user's Windows NT and FPNW passwords at once.

To use the utility, the user must run CHGPASS.EXE from a directory that
also contains the support files RPC16C1.RPC, RPC16C6.RPC, and
SECURITY.RPC. If you are installing File and Print Services for NetWare on
a computer which was not previously running the product, these files are
automatically installed on the server.

On servers already running a previous release of File and Print Services
for NetWare, you must remove the previous version and then reinstall the new
version for CHGPASS.EXE to work correctly. (The exception is servers
that are also running the Beta version of Microsoft Directory Service Manager
for NetWare).

For more information about removing and reinstalling File and Print Services
for NetWare, see the following note.

Installation Notes
----------------------
Run this release of File and Print Services for NetWare only on servers running
the final retail version of Windows NT Server 3.51 (build 1057).

If you want to run this product on a server currently running an older version
of Windows NT Server, first upgrade Windows NT Server on the computer.
Then upgrade File and Print Services for NetWare.

IMPORTANT- If you remove and reinstall File and Print Services for NetWare,
then when you reinstall it you must select <Other> in the Add Network
Software dialog box; do not select "File and Print Services for NetWare" from
the list in this dialog box.

Upgrading From the January Beta Release
-----------------------------------------------------
If you are installing this release of File and Print Services for NetWare on a
computer already running the January Beta of the utility, you can easily upgrade
your software to the current version by following these instructions:

(However, if you want to use the new CHGPASS.EXE utility, you must instead
remove and then reinstall File and Print Services for NetWare. For more
information, see the previous note.)

IMPORTANT- If you remove and reinstall the product (rather than using the
Update button), then in the Add Network Software dialog box you must
select <Other>; do not select "File and Print Services for NetWare" from
the list in this dialog box.

1.	Double-click the Network icon in Control Panel.

2.	In the Network Settings dialog box, choose the Update button.

3.	Insert the File and Print Services for NetWare CD-ROM into your
CD-ROM drive (or, if you are upgrading from diskette, insert the diskette
	into a disk drive).

4.	If you are upgrading from CD-ROM, then in the box, type the drive letter
of the CD-ROM followed by a colon and backslash, and then either
i386, MIPS, ALPHA, or PPC. For example, type E:\MIPS to install on
	a MIPS-based computer with a CD-ROM corresponding to drive E.

Or, if you are upgrading from disk, type the path to the root directory of
the drive containing the disk; for example, type A:\

Finish upgrading the utility by following the instructions on the screen.

Installing From Floppy Disk
-----------------------------------
In the File and Print Services for NetWare Administrator's Guide, the
instructions for installing the utility are for installing from CD-ROM. If you
received this beta release on a floppy disk instead of CD-ROM, then in steps 4
and 5 of the installation procedure , where you are instructed to insert the
CD-ROM and type the path to it in the Insert Disk dialog box, instead insert the
diskette and type the path of the root directory of the drive containing the
diskette, followed by a colon and backslash. For example, if you inserted the
diskette in drive A, type A:\

For the rest of the installation procedures, as well as for instructions for
installing the utility from CD-ROM, see the enclosed File and Print Services for
NetWare Administrator's Guide.

New Registry Parameter
-------------------------------
An additional registry parameter has been added.

EmulateShareableFlag REG_DWORD Range 1 to 3 Default 1

Specifies how the server handles Exclusive Read-Only requests from
NetWare clients. 1, the default, specifies that these requests are translated
to Deny-None Read-Write (but subsequently, if multiple clients have opened
the file, only one client is allowed to write to the file). 2 specifies that these
requests are translated to Exclusive Read-Only Deny-Write, meaning that all
clients can read the file, and no clients can write to it. 3 specifies that these
requests are translated to Exclusive Read-Write access, but clients are then
allowed to write to the file only if they subsequently issue a Write-Only
request for the file.

Setting this to 1 effectively means that applications can be shared, and certain
setup programs that send an Exclusive Read-Only request, followed by an
Exclusive Read-Write request are enabled to work. Setting this to 2 means
that applications can be shared, but those setup programs will not work.
Setting this to 3 means that applications cannot be shared, but the setup
programs will work.

The setting for this parameter applies globally to all files on the server. The
parameter is in the following key in the Registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\FPNW
\Parameters
