=============================================================

I. Using ViruCide with Other Virus Protection Software

Conflicts may exist when two memory resident (TSR) programs
safeguard your system simultaneously. If there are conflicts,
disable one of the memory resident programs. Your User's
Guide instructs you on the appropriate command(s) If you are
loading the program via the autoexec.bat file, remove or "rem"
out the line(s) that executes the TSR.

II. Special Instructions for Network Installation

Please follow these instructions to install ViruCide on an
individual station connected to a network.

        1. Network Stations with a Hard Drive

ViruCide 3.x can be installed on any networked
computer which boots from its own hard drive,
including a non-dedicated server. Follow all
        instructions for normal installation. Keep
in mind that you should choose a local hard
        drive partition for the installation.

        2. Network Stations without a Hard Drive

Networked computers which do not have their own
hard drive can still utilize ViruCide Shield (VS)
to safeguard system memory. We recommend that
you load VS into memory every time you boot the
        computer. To automate this process:

                A. Copy the files VS.EXE, INMEM.DAT,
                VS.DAT, MVS.DAT and SVS.DAT from your
                ViruCide Installation Diskette to the
floppy disk with which you normally boot
                the computer.

                B. Edit the AUTOEXEC.BAT of the floppy
                disk to include VS.EXE

        3. Installing ViruCide 3 on the Entire Network

The ViruCide 3 files can also be installed on
the shared network drive (server). This will
allow all network stations to utilize the same
copy of the ViruCide software. To Install
ViruCide on a shared network drive, run the
Install program using the /s flag. Type:

                A: (or B:) <ENTER>
                INSTALL /s <ENTER>

Follow all the instructions for normal
installation. This version of Install will
not modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, it will just
install the ViruCide files on to the server.
To then load ViruCide on to a local disk, run
the Install program from the local disk using
        the /L flag. Type:

                A: (or B:)<ENTER>
                INSTALL /L<ENTER>

Follow all the instructions for normal
installation. This version of Install will
modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and create the
signature files for the local machine.

III. Information for Network Administrators

ViruCide has several options that can assist in administering
networks. With simple commands you can control the anti-virus
protection in your network.

Virucide Shield:
----------------

        1. By using the command "VS /NT" you can check
whether a user is running a current version of
Virucide Shield. If the VS loaded is not the
same version or greater you will receive an
errorlevel of 10. The command "VS /NTL" also
requires a large Immune to be loaded.

Example of a Login Script for Novell Netware:

        #SYS:VOLUME/VIRUCIDE/VS /NT
        IF "%ERRORLEVEL"="0" THEN
WRITE "You are running an updated VS"
                ELSE BEGIN
                        FIRE PHASERS 5 TIMES
WRITE "Your VS is not updated!" EXIT "LOGOUT" END

        2. By using the command "VS /NTC" you can
update the local version of the ViruCide
package. This option will cause VS to copy all
the files in the directory that VS is located
("Remote Directory") to the directory that is
specified in the environment symbol "VIRUCIDE="
("Local directory"). Only files in the remote
directory that have a time and date greater
than the ones in the local directory will be
copied. If an error occurs you will receive an
        errorlevel of 10.

Example of a Login Script for Novell Netware:
          #SYS:VOLUME/VIRUCIDE/VS /NTC

IV. ViruCide Shield, Novell Netware, and Microsoft Windows

If your computer is connected to a Novell network and you print
to a shared network printer, you may experience problems when
printing from certain Windows applications such as Microsoft Word
for Windows. To work around this problem, you must change your
Windows printer configuration. You should take these steps ONLY
if you are printing from Windows applications to a shared printer
on a Novell network:

        1. Run the Windows Control Panel application
and double click on the "Printers" icon.

        2. When the Printers dialog box appears, click
once on the "Configure..." button to bring up
the "Printers - Configure" dialog box.

        3. Use the up or down arrow keys to highlight
"LPT1.OS2" on the "Ports" pick list, then click
        the "OK" button.

        4. Click the "OK" button on the "Printers"
dialog box, and then close the Control Panel
        application window.

The entire process should take less than a minute, and
need be done only once.

V. With the addition of several new viruses to the detection
capability of ViruCide Plus, the program does require more of
the system's memory.

No longer will the program function on systems that maintain
512K of conventional memory as stated on page 2 of the User's Guide.
To run the DOS version of ViruCide, we recommend at least 560K of
free conventional memory. Depending upon the amount of used disk
space, more memory may be required. Less memory to scan a hard
drive is required if ViruCide is executed using a command line option.
These are contained in Appendix B.

ViruCide Shield (VS) uses substantially more memory than indicated
on page 7 of the User's Guide.  The "small" version now requires 10K;
the "medium" version requires 39K; the large version requires 130K+.
The list of the ViruCide Shield switches is contained in Appendix B.
