M.Y.O.B. Accounting Version 5.0 README file

This document contains changes made to M.Y.O.B.
Version 5.0 after publication of the Getting
Started manual and User's Guide. Please review
this information before you begin using your
copy of M.Y.O.B.

WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 5.0
If you're upgrading to Version 5.0, we recommend
that you review the "Before You Begin" chapter
of the Getting Started manual, which contains a
summary of the improvements we've made to M.Y.O.B.
Using that chapter, you should be able to locate
the existing M.Y.O.B. features you know and love.

USING CD-ROM VIDEO HELP:
* Special hardware and software is required to use
CD-ROM Video Help. Refer to the Getting Started
manual for information about these items.

* To access Video Help, be sure the Video Help CD
is inserted in your CD-ROM drive, then choose Show
Video Help from the Help menu. Each time you open a
window in M.Y.O.B. for which Video Help is available,
the appropriate video clip will play.

* Some video cards have compatibility problems with
QuickTime for Windows, the software used to run
M.Y.O.B.'s Video Help function. If you experience
problems using M.Y.O.B. Video Help, use a text editor
to add the following line to your QTW.INI file on
your computer's hard disk (probably located in your
C:\WINDOWS directory, or the directory in which
Windows is installed):

NO EASY-ADD FOR CARDS IN WRITE CHECKS WINDOW
The Easy-Add function, which allows you to quickly
create a record, is not available in the Write Checks
window. Since you can use this window to write checks
to any type of card (customer, vendor, employee or
personal contact) in the M.Y.O.B. system, M.Y.O.B.
doesn't know the type of record you wish to create.

ASSIGNING SALES TAXES TO TRANSACTIONS USING TAX-EXEMPT
CUSTOMERS AND VENDORS
Sales taxes will be assigned to a transaction if you
mark the Tx column in the Sales window or Purchases
window, regardless of whether the customer or vendor
you're dealing with is tax-exempt. To ensure sales
taxes aren't charged, be sure the Tx column is not marked.

If the Tx column is marked, the first non-exempt sales
tax code in your list of codes will be assigned to the
sales transaction or purchasing transaction; you can
change this code, if you wish.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: CITY AND STATE FIELDS HAVE BEEN ADDED
Previous versions of the Card File Entry window used a
single text field for entire addresses. In Version 5.0,
the data entry region for addresses now consists of
separate fields for street address, city and state. Your
M.Y.O.B. data will continue to function properly with
these new fields; however, you may wish to change the
addresses on the cards you use most often so the city and
state fields are used. In addition, if you wish to print
1099 forms, you MUST change the addresses on the vendor
cards for which you want to print the 1099s.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: READ THIS IF YOU HAVE NEW JERSEY EMPLOYEES
New tax rates for the state of New Jersey are included in
the most recent tax tables. Previously, the NJ residence
code represented a tax rate different from the other New
Jersey residence codes; now, however, the NJ residence code's
tax rate is the same as the tax rate assigned to the NJ-A
residence code. The old NJ residence code still exists; however,
all employees who are assigned the NJ code will be assigned the
same tax rate as the NJ-A code after you install this update.

After you install this version of M.Y.O.B. and before you
record paychecks for New Jersey employees, check the Card
File Entry window for each New Jersey employee to be sure
they are assigned the correct residence code.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: READ THIS IF YOU HAVE PENNSYLVANIA EMPLOYEES
The PA-PL residence code now represents a new tax rate. Check
the Card File Entry window for each Pennsylvania employee to be
sure that they are assigned the correct residence code.

PRINTING 1099 INFORMATION
The Vendor Payments Report contains information that can be
used for 1099 reporting purposes. Keep in mind, however, that
information about purged transactions will NOT appear on this
report. (Keep in mind that when you start a new fiscal year,
vendor payment transactions from the previous fiscal year are
purged.) Since 1099 forms require information from an entire
CALENDAR year, you may need to use vendor payment information
from a previous data file backup to collect all the 1099
information you need.

VIEWING MISSISSIPPI PAYROLL ALLOWANCES
When you're viewing Mississippi tax information in the Tax
Table Information window, the Fixed Dollar Amount field will
display $1.00. Disregard this amount; the amount you entered
for Mississippi employees in the Allowances field of the
Employee Payroll Information window will be used.

More information about entering employee payroll allowances
for Mississippi employees is located on page 339 of the User's
Guide.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: PAYCHECK AMOUNTS MAY CHANGE SLIGHTLY
If you're upgrading from a previous version of M.Y.O.B., you
may notice that some employee withholding amounts are different.
These changes are as a result of new, annualized tax tables,
and reflect the proper withholdings for federal and state tax
reporting purposes.

Also, you may notice that other amounts on employees' paychecks
differ slightly from the amounts that were calculated in previous
M.Y.O.B. versions. We've improved the calculation processes in
M.Y.O.B.; as a result, the amounts that appear in Version 5.0
are more accurate than in previous versions. (In most cases, the
amounts will differ only by $0.01.)

FINDING INFORMATION ABOUT M.Y.O.B. REPORTS
Descriptions of all reports in M.Y.O.B. are included in your
on-line help.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT JOB REPORTS
The Job Profit & Loss Report and the Job Activity reports
(Summary and Detail) in M.Y.O.B. don't include information
from purged transactions.

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS TO MANUALS
This section contains information about parts of the M.Y.O.B.
manuals that have changed. In most cases, this information is
complete and up-to-date in your on-line help.

* The Default Expense Account window is described on page 52
of the Getting Started manual. The name of this window is now
  Adjustment Information.

* A number of references to "Items List window" in the
"M.Y.O.B. Windows" chapter of the User's Guide (for example,
"if you've marked the I Sell This Item selection in the Items
List window") should refer to the Item Information window instead.
The Items List window merely displays a list of the items and
services you've set up in the M.Y.O.B. system; the Item Information
window allows you to enter detailed information about those items.

* Several enhancements were made to M.Y.O.B. after the manuals were
printed that resulted in new or changed data entry windows.
As a result, the "M.Y.O.B. Windows" chapter of the User's Guide
doesn't contain all the windows in the system, and some illustrations
are slightly different than the actual windows in M.Y.O.B. In most
cases, these windows are described in your on-line help.

Some of the windows that aren't included or are incorrect in the
"M.Y.O.B. Windows" chapter includes: Adjustment Information, Comments
and Shipping Methods, Edit Accounts, Edit Comments, Edit Shipping
Methods, Export Data, Historical Purchase, Historical Sale, Import
Data, Invoice Type and PO Type.
