    1.0 IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    1.01 Installation Requirements
    ----------------------------------------
Installation requires at least 400 KB free conventional memory.
If there is insufficient memory available, restart your computer
loading only essential TSR's and device drivers.

The total disk space requirement to install all PC-cillin files,
including DOS and Windows programs, is approximately 4.0 MB.

    1.02 Problem Installation
    ----------------------------------------
If you have problems installing PC-cillin, edit your CONFIG.SYS
and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to temporarily remove non-essential TSR's
and device drivers. The COMPATABLILTY ISSUES section of this
file provides information on possible conflicts with PC-cillin
and other programs. Note that Technical Support is only provided
        to registered users.

    1.03 Boot-up Security Option
    ----------------------------------------
Boot-up security protects your computer from viruses even before
DOS has loaded. If you inadvertently booted from an infected
disk PC-cillin's boot-up security will show a virus warning
message and halt the system to prevent further virus damage.

If you selected Express Installation or if you selected the Boot
up security option in Custom Installation, the installation
program will modify the boot area of your computer to install
        Boot-up Security.

Since some viruses start infecting your system at the time DOS
is being loaded, it is a good idea to select boot-up security in
order to stop the viruses before they can do any damage.

WARNING! - Some operating systems are INCOMPATIBLE with Boot-up
Security and selecting this option may cause SEVERE DATA LOSS.
Please see the Compatability Issues Section for more information.

If you chose not to install boot-up security, on boot up PC-cillin
will issue a warning that Boot-up security was not installed.
You may turn off this warning by using PCCICFG (for DOS) or PCCWIN
        (for Windows).

    1.04 WINDISP.EXE
    ----------------------------------------
PC-cillin version 5.0 includes a Windows interface program
called WINDISP.EXE. This program allows the PC-cillin Sensor
program to show boot virus warning messages under the Windows
environment. This way PC-cillin will display a warning message
as well as generate a warning sound when a boot virus is
detected on floppy drives. It will be loaded automatically when
Windows startups (for more information about WINDISP.EXE, please
        see the USER'S GUIDE).

    1.05 Pattern Expiration Message
    ---------------------------------------------
The PC-cillin virus traps DO NOT require the use of a virus
pattern to protect your system from all types of viruses ( both
known and unknown ). However, we have provided extra scan
utilities to provide you with even greater protection. These
scan utilities require the use of a virus pattern which is
frequently updated to include the most recent viruses. If you
receive a pattern expiration message, please contact your local
PC-cillin supplier for a copy of the newest virus pattern.

    1.06 Scanning Compressed Files
    ---------------------------------------------
If you would like PCSCAN to also scan compressed files for
viruses, please use the /z or -z command. PCSCAN only supports
PKLITE, LZEXE, PKZIP, and LHA compressed files.

    1.07 Chinese Mode Support
    ---------------------------------------------
PC-cillin is now fully compatible with most Chinese Mode ET
compatible systems. Please load your chinese system before
running PC-cillin to show chinese script. ( Please note that
        PC-cillin DOES NOT support T-DOS).

    1.08 General Information
    ----------------------------------------
Reboot your computer after installing PC-cillin. This will
ensure that PC-cillin is up and running, ready to protect you
        from deadly viruses.

If the PC-cillin installation program modifies any of your files
it will backup the original file to extention PCC. For example
if your AUTOEXEC.BAT file is modified, the original file will be
        saved as AUTOEXEC.PCC.

Please take a few moments to read this document. It contains
important information that is not included in the PC-CILLIN
        USER'S GUIDE.

    2.0 COMPATIBLITY ISSUES

2.01 ET Chinese System Upgrade/Installation Program
    -----------------------------------------------------
The ET Chinese system upgrade program writes new system codes
directly onto the old program. This behavior is exactly the
same characteristic as a file virus infection mechanism. Thus,
PC-cillin will issue a warning message when users upgrade their
ET version. To avoid this alarm, you can either use the
        PC-cillin configuration program ( PCCICFG.EXE ) to turn the
PC-cillin Sensor off when performing the upgrade or delete the
old ET program before installing a new ET version.

    2.02 FastLock Data Protection Program
    ---------------------------------------------
In order for FastLock to protect your data, it will encrypt your
boot area. Therefore before running FastLock to protect your
hard disk, please follow the instructions below:

        (1) Copy all Fastlock files to a floppy diskette.

        (2) Boot your system from A: using the same DOS version.

        (3) Run FastLock from the floppy diskette to protect your hard
disk (make sure the floppy diskette is not write protected).

    2.03 HyperDisk Cache Program
    ---------------------------------------------
If your system experiences problems after installing PC-cillin,
place the device driver for the HyperDisk Cache program AFTER
the PC-cillin device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file ( Otherwise,
the HyperDisk Cache Program will incorrectly write to the
PC-cillin boot loader believing it to be the boot sector).

    2.04 McAfee SCAN
    ---------------------------------------------
If you run SCAN C: while PC-cillin is on guard, and you receive
a warning that the virus " TRIPLE SHOT " is resident in upper
        memory, please disregard this message.

    2.05 Norton Utilities' CALIBRAT.EXE program
    ---------------------------------------------
The CALIBRAT.EXE program in the Norton Utilities Package will
modify the hard disk boot sector when executed. You may select
[C]-Continue when PC-cillin warns you that CALIBRAT.EXE is
trying to modify the hard disk boot sector, or you may use the
PC-cillin configuration program PCCICFG.EXE (for DOS) or PCCWIN
(for Windows) to adjust the PC-cillin Sensitivity to turn the
Partition/Boot Sector Write Protect Warning to " OFF " before
        executing CALIBRAT.EXE.

2.06 Older version Local Bus with Cache buffer problem
    --------------------------------------------------------
Some older Local Bus cache buffer versions will cut a few bytes
from RAM for their own use. This practice will cause problems
for the Windows 32-bit disk access option as well as PC-cillin's
Boot Security. Newer Local Bus versions have corrected this
problem. If you have installed PC-cillin and one of the add-on
cards in your system has this problem, at system boot up
PC-cillin will warn you the system was infected by a boot virus
and will automatically reboot your system. Follow these steps to
        resolve this false alarm situation:

        (1) Boot up your system from A: drive.

        (2) Go to the directory where you installed PC-cillin ( normally
C:\PCCI5). Execute the PCCICFG program, select Sensitivity,
and set Boot Security to OFF.

        (3) Reboot the system from C: drive.

    2.07 OS/2 Dual Boot Feature
    ---------------------------------------------
WARNING! Failure to follow the instructions below may result
        WARNING! in severe data loss.

To install PC-cillin on to a OS/2 Dual Boot Environment System
        please follow the following instructions:

        (1) Boot up from the DOS system.

        (2) Install PC-cillin with Custom Install and select `NO' for
            Boot-up Security.

Boot-up Security protects your system before viruses get a
chance to execute. If you have OS/2 installed with the Dual
Boot Environment Option, DO NOT install PC-cillin Boot-up
Security (during installation, you will be asked if you
would like to install Boot-up Security. Select NO at this
time). This is because PC-cillin will modify your Hard Disk
boot sector in order to install Boot-up Security. This
option is INCOMPATIBLE with the OS/2 Dual Boot Environment.

        (3) Reboot your system after installing PC-cillin.

        (4) Installation is complete!

Please note that you cannot run PC-cillin programs from the OS/2
        DOS FULL SCREEN.

NOTE: If you change your operating system using the OS/2 Dual
Boot Feature, your boot area will be legitimately modified in
preparation for the new system. At this time PC-cillin will
issue a warning because the program will write to your boot area
Press `C' to continue when PC-cillin issues this warning. After
your system reboots to a different system, PC-cillin will use
back-up data to update your system area. This is because during
installation, PC-cillin makes a back-up of your system area and
compares this back-up with the present system area during boot
        up.

    2.08 OS/2 Boot Manager Feature
    ---------------------------------------------
You can not install PC-cillin on to your system if you have the
OS/2 Boot Manager installed AND the active partition is not the
DOS partition. You must first change the active partition to
the DOS partition by following the steps below:

        (1) Boot up from OS/2 Boot Manager and choose OS/2 system.

        (2) Run the FDISK utility.

        (3) Select the DOS partition to be the active partition.

        (4) Exit FDISK and reboot your system.

        (5) Install PC-cillin onto your system.

        (6) After installing PC-cillin, please reboot your system to let
PC-cillin back up your Hard Disk data.

        (6) If you would like to change the active partion back to the
OS/2 Boot Manager reboot your system using the OS/2 floppy
diskette again. And use the FDISK utility to change the
active partition back to the Boot Manager Partition.

Please note: After installing PC-cillin, if you change the
active partition to a non-DOS partition, on boot up you will
receive the following message from PC-cillin

Warning ! No PCCILLIN boot up security
Warning ! The current active partition is non-DOS
while PCCILLIN only support DOS boot sector security.
Would you like PCCILLIN to change the active flag in
                partition table to DOS? (Yes/No)

PC-cillin can only provide Boot-up Security if you boot up
from the DOS partition. If you would like Boot-up Security
select YES and PC-cillin will change the active partition to
be DOS and reboot your system. If you select NO you can
continue with normal operations however you will not have
Boot-up Security. Every time you boot up from a non-DOS
partition you will receive this message from PC-cillin.

    2.09 PCTool's DISKFIX.EXE
    -------------------------
The DISKFIX.EXE program will modify the hard disk boot sector
when executed. You may select [C]-Continue when PC-cillin warns
you that DISKFIX.EXE is trying to modify the hard disk boot
sector, or you may use PCCICFG.EXE to adjust the PC-cillin
Sensitivity to turn the Partition/Boot Sector Write Protect
Warning to "OFF" before executing DISKFIX.EXE.

    2.10 PC-Watchman Data Protection Program
    ---------------------------------------------
PC-Watchman will encrypt your hard disk including sensitive
areas which contain critical information about your system.
Before installing or uninstalling PC Watchman, please follow the
        instructions below:

        (1) Uninstall PC-cillin.

        (2) Reboot your system to put any changes into effect.

        (3) After unloading PC-cillin, please proceed with installing
            or uninstalling PC-Watchman.

        (4) After installing/uninstalling PC-Watchman, you may reinstall
            PC-cillin.

NOTE: If PC-Watchman is installed and you are installing
PC-cillin, DO NOT SELECT BOOT-UP SECURITY. This option is
            incompatible with PC-Watchman.

WARNING! Failure to follow the above instructions may result in
loss of information on your Hard Disk.

    2.11 TeleMagic
    ---------------------------------------------
If you experience some problems when running TeleMagic with
PC-cillin installed, please turn off the "PC-cillin Happy Face"
by using the PCCICFG.EXE configuration program.

    2.12 Windows 3.x
    ---------------------------------------------
In order to load PCC for Windows and modify SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI
automatically, please add the Window's directory to your path
and Select Express Installation or Select "YES" for the Modify
SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI files options in Custom Install.

If PCC for Windows can't be loaded automatically when Window
starts up. Please run the program TMDGROUP.EXE located in the
directory where you installed PC-cillin ( by default this is
        C:\PCCI5 ).

After installation is complete please check that the following
line has been added to your SYSTEM.INI file under the [386Enh]
        section.

            ReflectDOSInt2A=True

During installation, this line will automatically be added for
you. However, if the Installation Program could not locate your
Windows directory you will have to add this line yourself by
following the instructions below using a text editor (EDIT.COM)

        (1) If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.

        (2) Go to the directory where Windows is installed ( for this
            example we will use C:\WINDOWS).

        (3) Open the WIN.INI file using a text editor.

        (4) Insert the following line into the section headed [386Enh]
(Your screen should look something like this)

            [386Enh]
            ReflectDOSInt2A=True

        (5) Save your changes before you exit the text editor.

2.13 Windows For Workgroups 32-bit File Access
    ------------------------------------------------
Windows for Workgroups Ver 3.11 provides 32-bit File Access to
increase performance on certain systems. This feature reads
disk information directly, bypassing all DOS functions including
PC-cillin. When this option is enabled, PC-cillin will NOT be
able to monitor virus activity in your system, thus we recommend
that you do not enable this function. NOTE: 32-bit File Access
is disabled by default. If you normally use this feature, and
you want PC-cillin to inform you when it detects a virus you
must start Windows for Workgroup with the /D:C option. This
switch temporarily disables 32-bit File Access.

    2.14 XtraDrive Compression Utility
    ---------------------------------------------
The XtraDrive program will modify the boot area of your Hard
Disk. Therefore before installing XtraDrive you must first
uninstall PC-cillin. After installing XtraDrive, please
        reinstall PC-cillin.

    2.15 PC-DOS
    ---------------------------------------------
If you can't boot from PC-DOS Chinese Mode after installing
PC-cillin. Please move or add the following line to the first
        line of AUTOEXEC.BAT.

        SET COMSPEC=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM C:\DOS

In order to get the correct screen layout under Chinese Mode,
please load the program file ETEMUL.EXE from the DOS directory
        first.

    2.16 Windows 95 / NT
    ---------------------------------------------
The Windows 95/NT program will modify the boot area of your Hard
Disk. Therefore before installing Windows 95/NT you must first
uninstall PC-cillin. After installing Windows 95/NT, please
        Boot from MS-DOS to reinstall PC-cillin. PC-cillin 5.0 can't be
installed under the Windows 95/NT system. Trend is currently
developing another product for Windows 95/NT.

    2.17 High Capacity device drivers
    ---------------------------------------------
Some high capacity disk drivers such as Disk Manager and EZDrive
will put a small driver in the partition table. If you boot up
from a floppy, you won't be able to access your hard drive.
These types of drivers may conflict with PC-cillin's device
driver. If you experience this problem after installing
PC-cillin, please modify the following line in CONFIG.SYS

        DEVICE=C:\PCCI5\PCC_DEV.SYS /V

    2.18 Compressed Volumes
    ---------------------------------------------
(1). For DOUBLESPACE, STACKER, SUPERSTOR and XTRADRIVE users:
Boot up from your hard drive (compressed disk) and proceed with
the PC-cillin installation. If you booted up from A: drive and
installed PC-cillin onto the compressed drive, you may
experience problems. In this case, re-boot from A: drive and
perform a SYS C: command to solve this problem.

(2). We strongly suggest that you uninstall PC-cillin first before
installing / uninstalling DOUBLESPACE, STACKER, SUPERSTOR,
         XTRADRIVE or other compression utilities.

    2.19 Unable to run Windows
    ---------------------------------------------
If you have installed PC-cillin and your system hangs while showing
the Windows logo screen, please modify the following line in
        CONFIG.SYS

        DEVICE=C:\PCCI5\PCC_DEV.SYS /V

    3.0 HARDWARE IMMUNIZER BOX PROBLEMS

3.01 External Hard Disk Parallel Port with Immunizer Box
    ----------------------------------------------------------
If you are using an external hard disk which is connected to a
parallel port, please attach the Immunizer Box to the same
parallel port as the external hard disk. The Immunizer Box
should be placed between the parallel port and the external hard
        disk cable.

3.02 Disabling PC-cillin with the Immunizer Box still connected
    -----------------------------------------------------------------
If the Immunizer Box is still attached to the printer port after
you have uninstalled PC-cillin or after you have disabled the
PC-cillin program, you may experience some problems when
printing. For instance, there may be line feeds before printing
or the printer may print out garbage. When this happens, remove
the Immunizer Box or reload the PC-cillin program to solve this
        problem.
