                           {NFS PRINT SERVICES
                           {==================

{  Introduction to Printing Services
{  =================================

       This section describes how to use NFS print services in the
       Windows(R) environment.

{    Before You Begin
{    ----------------

       Windows can run only one network driver at a time. Users with
       LANtastic for Windows will have to choose between LANtastic for
       Windows functionality and the new features provided with LANtastic
       for TCP/IP.

       You can select which driver is loaded by editing your Windows
       SYSTEM.INI file. In the section called [boot] look for the line
       {NETWORK.DRV=}. The driver indicated at the end of the path will
       usually be MSNET.DRV (the default Windows driver), LANTNET.DRV or
       PWNFS.DRV. To use most of the features described below, you must
       edit the SYSTEM.INI file and enter PWNFS.DRW on the {NETWORK.DRV=}
       line.

{  Print Redirectors
{  =================

       LANtastic for TCP/IP provides three redirectors for remote
       printing:

           o NFS redirector

           o LPRINT redirector

           o RFCLPRNT redirector

       These three redirectors are not related to each other and each
       can be used independently for remote printing. You can use NFS in
       parallel with either LPRINT or RFCLPRNT; however, you cannot have
       LPRINT and RFCLPRNT loaded at the same time. You may need to use
       these redirectors independently or in parallel based on your
       network configurations. LPRINT and RFCLPRNT are described in the
       USING LPRINT AND RFCLPRNT section of this on-line manual.

       The NFS redirector is based on the NFS protocol. By using NFS, you
       can redirect a remote printer to a local printer port using the
       mount command. You need specific privileges, such as a username and
       password on the remote host, in order to mount the remote printer.
       The client machine should have the privileges necessary to print on
       the remote host.

       In order to print using the NFS redirector, the remote host
       must meet the following conditions:

           o The remote server to which the printer is attached must be
             running NFS daemons, e.g., NFSD, STATD, and MOUNTD.

           o An authentication daemon, e.g., Sun Microsystem's Daemon
             (PCNFSD) or Network File System Authentication Daemon (NFSAD)
             must be running on the remote host. An authentication daemon
             provides authentication by the use of a username and a
             password.

           o The server must be configured to print to the attached
             printer locally.

       {Note...} If your remote server is running a System V LP-based
                   daemon such as LPSCHEDULER, use NFS for printing. If
                   your remote server has an LPR-based daemon running,
                   such as LPD on UNIX 4.3 BSD or LP on VMS, you can use
                   either NFS or LPRINT to print.

           o The proper entries need to be made in the PRINTCAP file. The
             PRINTCAP file identifies the printer to the system.

       To verify this information contact your system administrator.

{  Starting NFS Software
{  =====================

       To start Client NFS, type {nfs} at the DOS prompt. You can start
       the NFS redirector agent only from the DOS prompt (before running
       Windows). After completing this action, you can connect to a
       network printer.

{  Connecting to a Printer
{  =======================

       Before you can connect to a network printer, the printer must be
       installed to do network printing. To see what printers are
       installed, follow these steps:

           1. Start Windows. In the "Main" window, double-click on the
              "Control Panel" icon.

           2. Double-click the "Printers" icon in the "Control Panel" box.

           3. In the "Printers" dialog box, select "Connect." (For
              Windows 3.0, select "Network." Skip to step 5.) The
              "Connect" dialog box appears listing ports.

           4. In the "Connect" dialog box, click "Network." The "Printers
              Network Connections" dialog box appears listing any network
              connections that have been made.

           5. Enter the printer name by using one of the following
              methods:

              o Click "Browse." Move to step 6.

              o In the "Network Path" edit box ("Path" edit box if you are
                using Windows 3.0), enter the printer name using the
                syntax:

                \\server\/printername

              The default {printername} is lp. Skip to step 8.

              o Choose the "Previous" button to select previously
                connected printers. (This step does not apply to Windows
                3.0.) Skip to step 8.

           6. Select the desired host in one of two ways:

              o Double-click on one of the hostnames.

              o Type the hostname or IP address in the "Hostname" edit box
                and click "OK."

              If the selected NFS server is running PCNFSD, the "Printers"
              box displays all the available printers. No printers display
              if the selected NFS server is running NFASD.

       {Note...} If you are using PCNFSD on the remote side, use the
                   second printer name in the PRINTCAP file while
                   mounting. You can check the correct printer name by
                   using "Browse."

           7. Select the desired printer by clicking on it, then click
              "OK." The network path in the "Printers Network
              Connections" dialog box shows the selected host and printer
              in the path. The installed printers appear in the "Current
              Printer Connections" box. You can now mount the remote
              printer by choosing a port, using your password, username,
              and appropriate options.

           8. In the "Port" field, click the Down arrow key to display a
              list of available ports.

           9. In the list of ports, choose the port you want to use.

          10. In the "Password" text box, enter a password if it is
              required. An asterisk (*) appears for each character you
              type.

       {Note...} If you have saved your username and password in the
                   {auth} command, enter one asterisk in the "Password"
                   field and press "OK." Leave the "Username" field in
                   step 12 empty.

          11. Click "Connect" to connect a logical drive. The "NFS Network
              Options" box appears. Your username appears automatically in
              the "Username" field if you entered it when you installed
              the LANtastic for TCP/IP kernel.

          12. In the "Username" field, enter your username if it is not
              already there.

          13. In the "Filter" field, if you want to select the print
              filter, click the Down arrow key to display a list of
