                       {  =========================

{ Using the Print Redirectors
{  ===========================

LPRINT and RFCLPRNT print redirectors provide the ability to
print from Windows(R) or your Windows-based applications to remote
printers. To do this, perform the following steps:

           1. Ensure that the line NETWORK.DRV=PWNFS.DRV appears in the
[boot] area of the SYSTEM.INI file. This enables you to
use the print redirector agent from Windows.

           2. Start the print redirector agent (LPRINT or RFCLPRNT) from
DOS. Refer to your LANtastic for TCP/IP manual for
              instructions.

           3. Use LPRQ to connect to the remote printer from your local
host. Refer to your LANtastic for TCP/IP manual for
              instructions.

           4. Make sure the remote printer you want to use is installed
              and active in Windows.

To automate the last two operations, you can enter the commands to
start the print redirector agent and connect to the remote printer
in the TCPSTART.BAT file. This way, the print redirector will
be started and your PC will be connected to the remote printer
       whenever you boot your system.

{ Redirecting Print Jobs
{ ----------------------

To print from a Windows application or from a non-Windows
application to a remote printer, start the print redirector agent,
connect to the remote printer from your PC and perform some of the
       other tasks listed below.

You can perform all of the following tasks from the MS-DOS prompt
from Windows, except for starting the print redirector agent. You
must start the print redirector from the MS-DOS prompt outside of
       Windows.

o Prepare your print client to redirect print jobs.

o Start the print redirector agent (outside of Windows).

o Connect to the remote printer as an LPR client.

o Monitor and manage your print jobs.

o Monitor and manage from the client.

           o Delete a print redirection.

o Push a file to the printer port.

o Show the print queue status.

o Remove a job from the print queue.

o Check the status of print redirection.

o Monitor and manage from the print server.

o Kill a job in the print queue.

o Show the status of the print server.

After you have started the print redirector and connected to the
remote printer from your print client, you will be able to print
from any of your Windows or non-Windows applications, such as
Microsoft Word(R) for Windows, Lotus 1-2-3(R) for Windows,
Microsoft Paintbrush(R), WordPerfect(R) for DOS or Harvard
Graphics(R). Your print jobs will be automatically redirected from
the local printer port on your PC to the remote print server.

{ Automating Printer Preparation
{ ------------------------------

To automate printer preparation, enter the commands for starting
the print redirector agent and specifying the remote printer in the
       AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Below is an example of two entries in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

              lprint
              lprq lpt1 apache:hpljet -Ot -Os

In this example, the {lprint} command starts the LPRINT print
redirector, the {lprq} command specifies the DOS printer port lpt1,
and the remote printer hpljet on the print server apache will print
PostScript files. The {-Ot} option specifies a troff file, and
the {-Os} option specifies a PostScript file.

{Note...} To print to a non-PostScript printer from a Windows
or non-Windows application, use the {-Ol} option.

{ Printing from Windows Applications
{ ----------------------------------

When using the LPRINT print redirector, you may not be able to
print from some Windows applications, such as Microsoft Word and
Microsoft Excel(R) if "Print Manager" is disabled. If you have
problems printing from your Windows applications, do the following:

           1. Go to the "Control Panel" and open the "Printers" icon. Turn
on the "Use Print Manager" option.

           2. Go to the "Main" window and open the "Print Manager."

           3. Select "Network" from the "Options" menu if you are running
Windows 3.0, or "Network Settings" from the "Options" menu
if you are running Windows 3.1.

           4. Disable the "Update Network Display" and "Print Net Jobs
              Direct" options.

{Note...} This section applies only if you are using the
PWNFS.DRV driver. If you are using LANtastic
for Windows drivers, ignore the above.

{ Printing Lotus 1-2-3 Files
{ --------------------------

Some Windows applications, for example, Lotus 1-2-3 for Windows
and WordPerfect for Windows, allow you to use either their
PostScript drivers or Windows' PostScript drivers. If you are
having problems with the application's PostScript driver,
use a Windows PostScript driver. For more information, refer to
the application's documentation or README file.
