    Backup Exec for Windows README.TXT
    ==================================

    Third Party Desktop Managers
    ----------------------------

If a third party desktop manager is being used, the Backup Exec
program group may not be created correctly during installation.
You may have to create the group manually.

    Redirected Restore Operations
    -----------------------------

When restoring to a different drive or directory and using the
verify option, do not specify the path with a trailing path
      separator (i.e., "d:\path\" should be "d:\path"). Including
a trailing path separator will cause the verify operation to
      fail.

    Increased Data Transfer Rate
    ----------------------------

Due to the overhead associated with updating screen information in
the Windows environment, Backup Exec for Windows will have an
improved data transfer rate when running minimized (iconic).

    Reduced Initialization Time
    ---------------------------

To reduce the initialization time required by Backup Exec for
Windows, limit the hardware test to the SCSI ID occupied by your
drive. To do this, select Settings/Hardware and deselect all other
ID's except the ID for your drive.

    Password Protection
    -------------------

When using a tape or logging into a server with a password, be aware
that the password is saved by the application for use during the
CURRENT session. Once it has been entered, you will NOT be prompted
for it again during the SESSION. If you must leave your workstation
      secure, exit the application.

"Bad Tapes" in 2200 and 2200+ Drives
    ------------------------------------

Tapes made in an Exabyte 5000 drive are displayed as bad tapes
when used in the 2200 drives. Erasing the tape will allow it to
be used in the 2200 drives.

All drives except Exabyte 2200, 2200+, and 5000
    -----------------------------------------------

Very wide directory paths (such as on NetWare servers) cannot be
backed up, restored, verified, etc. The software will fail with
paths containing more than 140 characters (including the '\'
directory separators). Drives with block size of at least 1024
(such as the Exabytes) have the capacity to handle very wide
      directory paths.

PS/2 .ADF Files for Conner (Maynard) Adapters
    ---------------------------------------------

Due to problems with Microsoft Windows, Backup Exec for Windows will
not operate properly when using the PS/2 upper DMA channels (4-7).
The .ADF files on the Backup Exec Installation diskette do not include
the option to use these channels.

    Non-DMA mode on PS/2 Models 50 and 60
    -------------------------------------

Non-DMA mode is not currently supported on the PS/2 models 50 and 60.

    NetWare Server/Volume Support
    -----------------------------

Microsoft Windows must be configured for use on the network in order
for the NetWare Server/Volume support to function in Backup Exec.
Ensure that the network is selected under Windows Setup.

    Transfer Operations on NetWare Servers
    --------------------------------------

If 'Extended Date Support' (in the BEWINS.INI file) is turned off
(set to 0), Transfer operations based on date range selections
cannot remove the files from the server. The extended date support
must be enabled to restore the true last accessed date before the
      deletion step is performed.

    Novell NetWare 286 & 386
    ------------------------

An unlimited number (except by memory) of mapped drives or server
volumes may be opened at once on a 286 server. The maximum number
of mapped drives or server volumes that may be opened at once on
386 servers varies from two to five, depending on the number of AFP
      volumes opened.
