----------------------------
1. Barcode Error Indicators
----------------------------

When you enter barcode information incorrectly, you will see one of two
patterns in the barcode field on the card preview and production fields.

   * Cross-hatch pattern

Indicates the operator entered invalid characters for that specific
barcode type. For example, operator typed an "X" in a Codabar barcode
   field which legally only accepts the following: 0..9, -, $, :, /, ",",
   +, and alphabetical characters A through D.

   * Diagonal lines

Indicates that the length of the data string in the production field is
too long compared to the length of the barcode field in the card design.
   Do one of the following:

	* Reduce the length of the data string (production field),

	or preferably

	* Increase the length of the barcode field in the card design and
use sample text data that appropriately represents the actual card
           data.

----------------------------
2. Barcode Background Color
----------------------------

For added security where barcodes are positioned over solid color backgrounds,
preprinted cards produce satisfactory results. Alternatively, you may have
QuikWorks position a solid-color bitmap field behind the barcode, but results
may be unsatisfactory; please test to meet your particular requirements.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Updating Fields- Production Window that has Fields With and Without
   Database Connections
------------------------------------------------------------------------

When you traverse records in a production window that contains fields both
with and without database connections, remember that the fields without
database connections do not automatically clear when you query, search, or
move forward or backward within returned records.

To save time on the operator side, consider using fields without a database
connection for data that applies to groups of records. For example, you can
create a "class" field with no database connection to enter a group of
sophomores. This saves the operator having to re-type the word "sophomore."
To empty fields all fields, including those without a database connection,
choose the Clear button.

----------------------
4. Print Action Fields
----------------------

When a link contains a Print Action field, printing a record automatically
does one of the following:

	* If the record does not already exist in the database, QuikWorks
INSERTs the record into the database

        * If the record exists in the database, QuikWorks UPDATEs the
record in the database with the new information

For best results, ensure the database field assigned as a Print Action field
is large enough to hold your maximum value: be it numeric type, or a large
enough character type. QuikWorks will truncate inconsistently if you specify
fields that are too small.

--------------
5. Date Fields
--------------

* When possible, use a character string data type for dates.

* When you apply a date validation mask, consider using the win.ini date
setting. This allows you to customize the date in windows. For example,
if you want to insert the current date without the time using the DATETIME
data type and an Access database, you can adjust the win.ini setting to
   show only the date.

* When you use character string date fields for dates,

For Access, FoxPro, and dBase databases, if you have not entered a value
for a date field with a validation mask, QuikWorks inserts empty spaces
   when you insert the record.

NOTE: You can use the F3 key, in a date field, to automatically fill the
field with the current date before you print or insert the record.

* When you use a binary (date) data type for dates,

    - Access database with a date validation automatically inserts the
current days date in the Production window when you insert the record.

    - FoxPro and dBase with a date validation mask displays an invalid date
format error message when you insert the record. You cannot use a date
validation mask with a binary data type with FoxPro and dBase. Use a
character string for dates when you want a validation mask in FoxPro
      and dBase.

-------------------
6. Validation Masks
-------------------

Numeric ranges will not work with a numeric validation mask that has a
decimal point. Use whole numbers in the numeric validation mask if you are
specifying a numeric range.

---------------------
7. Numeric Data Types
---------------------

To enter data in a numeric data type field with a length of 1, highlight the
digit first.

-------------
8. Chroma-key
-------------

The chroma-key may have color replacing problems due to the image size. When
using this feature, test it with several sizes to determine the best size for
your site.

----------------------
9. Mouse Configuration
----------------------

When you move fields in the Card Designer window, there is a slight delay in
the mouse response. This is to prevent accidentally moving a field when you
select it.

To adjust the mouse response time, alter the mouse double-click speed in
Windows setup.

--------------------
10. User Login Limit
--------------------

The maximum number of user login entries is 500. When you attempt to add
more than the limit, QuikWorks prompts you to delete a user login entry
before you may add another user.

---------------------
11. Audit Log Entries
---------------------

When the number of audit log entries is greater than the number in the
audit log "Entries to keep" text box, QuikWorks truncates the file to include
only the most recent entries that fit within the range you specify in the
"Entries to keep" text box.

---------------------------
12. Check Digit Limitations
---------------------------

You can only print the check digit as part of the human-readable bar code
(See Appendix C, Using Bar Codes). You cannot capture the check digit alone
to print as a separate card field, save to the database, or manipulate in
any way.

-------------------------------------------
13. Print Action Fields in Composite Fields
-------------------------------------------

You can now add print action fields to a composite field.

--------------------------
14. Access 2.0 ODBC Driver
--------------------------

QuikWorks now supports the Access 2.0 ODBC driver.

----------------------------------------------------------------
15. Changing Dithering Algorithm for Color Images on ImageCard I
----------------------------------------------------------------

The QuikWorks software automatically knows when to dither color images for
ImageCard I printing. However, QuikWorks v. 2.02 has an altered QW.INI
file.

* New Installation

If you are installing QuikWorks for the first time, your QW.INI
file will already have the changes made. You will only need to adjust the
Gamma Value setting if you want to darken or brighten your images; follow
the directions found in the Update Installation section.

* Update Installation

If you are updating your QuikWorks system, you will need to add the
following lines to your QW.INI file only if you intend to adjust
the Gamma Value from its software default of 1.17:

        [Gamma]
        ;1=on, 0=off
        OnOff=1
        ;gamma value range = 0.5 - 2.5
        GammaValue=1.17
        ;maximum gamma result = 255
        GammaMaxRes=255

You can also adjust the gamma value (1.17 in the sample above) to make
the image brighter or darker.

* To make the image darker, lower the number, with the lowest
  possible value being 0.5.

* To make the image brighter, raise the number, with the largest
  possible value being 2.5.

-----------------
16. Security Key
-----------------

QuikWorks now ships with a security key to protect your investment in
DataCard products. It should be securely attached to a parallel port on your
computer. If it should accidently become deattached during operation of
QuikWorks, you will need to:
  1) exit QuikWorks,
  2) attach the security key, and then
  3) restart QuikWorks to resume correct operation.
