 Welcome to the Personal Tax Edge for DOS README file.
 This file contains important information to be aware
 of, as you begin using the program.


              OBTAINING REPLACEMENT DISKS

 Usually, you will receive one of the following messages
 if you have a bad disk:

    "General failure error reading drive..."
    "Sector not found.."
    "CRC error..."
    "Bad sector..."
    "Unrecoverable read error..."
    "Address mark not found..."

 To check your disks, use the DISKCOPY command to copy
 the entire disk. DISKCOPY will report any bad sectors
 (see your DOS manual). To order a replacement for a
 defective disk call Technical Support at 1-319-395-7314.
 Within 30 days of purchase, we replace disks free. After
 this, contact Technical Support for prices.


           PERSONAL TAX EDGE TECHNICAL SUPPORT

 To ensure that you receive assistance when you need it,
 we're extending our technical support hours for PERSONAL
 TAX EDGE beginning January 15. Call 1-319-395-7314 to speak 
 with one of our technical support representatives during the 
 days and times listed below. All times shown are Central
 Standard Time.


       TECHNICAL SUPPORT HOURS FOR PERSONAL TAX EDGE*

 Until January 12:   Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m.- 9 p.m.

 January 15-April 15: Monday thru Friday, 7 a.m.-Midnight

                      Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

                      Sunday, Noon - 6 p.m.

 
                    DISPLAY PROBLEMS

 If you are using our program with a monochrome monitor, we
 recommend you choose the "LCD" color set in the program.
 To change from the default setting to "LCD" the first time
 into the program, hit the following keystrokes:
 <ESC>, <ESC>, S, C, L, <ENTER>


                   PRINTING PROBLEMS

 If you experience problems printing tax forms, one of
 these suggestions may solve your problem:

 1. Please allow ample time for "Graphic" printing to
    complete the print job. Depending upon how your
    particular printer spools the print job, and the
    amount of memory on the printer itself, it could
    take anywhere from 5-15 minutes to print each page.

 2. If you are using a postscript printer and are having 
    problems printing in "Laser" format, try using the 
    "Graphic" print option within the program.

 3. If you are using a dot-matrix printer that emulates
    an Epson 9-pin printer, try choosing the 
    "Epson FX Series" selection within the program.
    If you are using a dot-matrix printer that emulates
    an Epson 24-Pin printer, try choosing the 
    "Epson LQ Series (B/W)" selection in the program.
    If you are using a Canon BJC 600 that emulates
    an Epson LQ, try choosing "Epson LQ Series (B/W)" 
    selection in the program.

 4. If you encounter an "Error Code 206" or "Low Memory"
    message while printing within the program, we
    recommend that you disable any DOS TSRs, including
    DOS menu programs that are loaded into memory.

 5. If you are attempting to print graphic forms and getting
    the message "Failed to open current form file" or
    attempting to print laser and getting the message
    "Laser printing halted..Not able to transfer the
    font file," most likely you are missing our laser
    subdirectory that contains the font files needed
    for both graphic and laser printing. Re-installing
    the program should take care of the problem.


 NOTE:  You can file a printed tax return using PERSONAL
 TAX EDGE; the program generates IRS-approved documents ready
 to submit. In the event that a particular form is NOT approved
 for filing directly to the IRS, that form will be clearly labeled
 informing you that it is not accepted. 


                          FORMS LIST

 To open the Forms List window, choose Forms from the Return menu.
 You will see two lists in the Forms List window. Tax Documents
 Received lists the documents which may have been sent to you at the
 end of the year, such as W-2s and 1099s. Forms and Schedules lists
 the forms, schedules, and worksheets available in the program.

 To move from one list to the next, execute the highlighted button
 at the bottom of the Forms List. The available button is always the
 one that is opposite of the displayed Forms List. For example, if 
 Forms--Tax Documents list is displayed, then View Forms and Schedules
 is the highlighted option. Execute that button to view the list of
 forms and schedules available in the program.


                          SCHEDULE H

 Due to significant IRS changes to Schedule H, this form will 
 not transfer from Planning version to Final Filing version. You
 will need to re-enter your Schedule H information, if applicable.


     DOWNLOADING STATE TAX EDGE and PERSONAL TAX ORGANIZER

 If you have a modem and access to the Internet you can purchase STE 
 or PTO online and download them to your computer, rather than waiting
 for disks to arrive in the mail.

                          CORRECTION

 The Print Blank Forms feature is not available in this program. This
 includes printing forms downloaded from our Internet site. We 
 apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
