MicroPhone for Windows
December 1994

IMPORTANT
=========
    If you have a earlier version of MicroPhone for Windows,
    do not run the Setup Program while MicroPhone is running.
    Problems can occur because the Setup Program may update a
    file in use by MicroPhone or Windows.

SETTING UP A SECOND TIME
========================

MicroPhone's Setup Program provides the option to install only
selected files. To install files not installed the first time,
or install the original files again, follow the same
instructions used for your initial setup. At step 7, make your
selection and choose Continue. Setup will add the selected
documents.

If you reinstall an existing settings document, you may end up
with duplicate icons in the Program Manager's MicroPhone group.
When this happens, select each of the duplicate items and choose
Delete from the File menu in the Program Manager. If you run
Setup using a different directory, you will still get
duplicate icons, but with the new path information. You should
delete the old icons, checking the path, or change the icons so
that you can distinguish between the old and new icons. To avoid
mistakes, it is advisable to delete the old icons before running
Setup.

If you have installed a demonstration version of MicroPhone for
Windows, you should delete all icons in the MicroPhone group
before installing the commercial version.

SETTING UP ON A NETWORK
=======================

Software Ventures Corporation provides network license for
installation in a network environment; otherwise each user is
required to purchase a seperate copy of MicroPhone. As long as
one package is owned by each user, users can share the
application and documents on a network file server. Contact
Software Ventures Corporation's sales department at
(510) 644-3232 for information about network licensing.

MicroPhone's Setup Program is designed to install to a local
hard disk or network servers that are designed to act like
local hard disks.

Be sure that you have permission to write to the directory where

MicroPhone is being installed. If you specify a directory that
does not exist, the Setup Program will try to create the
directory. Make sure you have permission to create the
directory. Follow the setup instructions above.

WHAT THE SETUP APPLICATION DOES
===============================

MicroPhone's Setup Program will:

1. Create the application's directory if it does not already
   exist.

2. Decompress and copy MicroPhone-specific files to the
   application's directory.

3. Make these changes in the Windows directory:
   - Add the *.mdc and *.wav associations to win.ini.
   - Copy MicPhone.ini, MPFax.ini and MPTran.ini into the
     Windows directory.

4. Copy these files to the Windows\System directory:
   mppcansi.fon, mpdecvt.fon and mlist.vbx.

   Vbrun100.dll and winsock.dll will be copied if necessary.

5. Update MicPhone.ini for installed documents and other
   information.

6. Build MicroPhone's Program Manager group.

7. If Trumpet Winsock is installed, the MicroPhone Winsock
   directory must be included in the DOS path. When you
   have installed MicroPhone, you need to exit Windows,
   reboot the computer and restart Windows to allow Trumpet
   Winsock to be fully functional.

NOTE:
  MicroPhone's document names are not restricted like DOS
  file names. These document names are listed in MicPhone.ini
  under the Settings heading. If a document name is properly
  listed in MicPhone.ini, you can use "MP2.exe" followed by the
  document name in the command line of the Program Manager's
  Properties dialog box. If it is not, you must use a full path
  name.

  For network installation: MicroPhone's profile file,
  MicPhone.ini, must be located in the same directory as each
  user's win.ini. Each user must have write permission to this
  file in order to use MicroPhone. MPFax.ini and MPTran.ini must
  be in this directory to use MicroPhone's international
  character translation tables.

SETTING UP UNDER NORTON DESKTOP
===============================

If you have version 1.0 of Norton Desktop for Windows, you
should consider upgrading to version 2.0 or later.

Norton Desktop utility version 1.0, a Windows shell which
replaces the Windows Program Manager (PROGMAN.EXE) is not fully
compatibable to PROGMAN.EXE. Running MicroPhone's Setup Program
under the Norton Desktop utility version 1.0 may result in
errors in Windows. Here are some suggestions of what to do if
you do run into problems.

1. If possible, use Window's Program Manager to set up
   MicroPhone.

2. If the Program Manager is not available, open Norton
   Desktop's Preferences and turn off the Task List and Launch
   List, restart Windows, and then run MicroPhone's Setup Program.

3. After installation, restart Windows.
