This document provides revisions to the SoftSolutions 4.0 for
Windows User's Reference, dated 3-30-94, for updating to
SoftSolutions 4.1.

>> Name p. 45

The last sentence of the "Name" paragraph should read:

Therefore, Novell, Inc. recommends that a descriptive Name
be provided for EACH document in the system.

>> Checking a Document Out pp. 68-69

Steps 3 and 4 should be replaced with the following step 3.:

  3. In the "Copy out document?" field, enter Yes to place a copy
of the document in a user-defined location, or No to set the
In Use flag to "Checked Out" without obtaining a copy of the
     document.

       a. If "Copy out document?" is Yes, perform the following:

            i. In the "Copy out Profile?" field, enter Yes to
obtain a copy of the Profile in addition to the
document, or No to simply copy out the document.

                  * The Profile information is contained in the
                    file named [Document Number].PRO, where
[Document Number] is the Document Number in
the Profile. This file is used when the
                    SoftSolutions dataset becomes inaccessible
and SoftSolutions must be run in Portable
Mode, or the document is being placed into
                    another dataset.

                  * If the document being checked out is a guest
document (a document with a home dataset
different than the current dataset), error
545 is displayed. Enter Yes to continue with
the operation. Enter No to cancel the check-
                    out operation.

ii. Press Enter to accept the default path wherein a
copy of the document and Profile is to be placed,
               or enter a valid path.

                  * The default path is the last entry placed in
this field since logging into SoftSolutions.
When accessing the CHECK OUT window for the
first time, "A:\" is the default path.

                  * If the path cannot be located, error 510 is
displayed and the cursor returns to the
                    "Path" field.

iii. Press Enter to accept the default filename to be
assigned to the copy of the document, or enter a
               valid filename.

                  * The default filename is the same as the
contents of the "File" field in the Profile.

       b. If "Copy out document?" is No, enter Yes or No in the
          "Check out document?" field.

             * Yes sets the In Use flag to "Checked Out" without
obtaining a copy of the document.

             * No cancels the check-out operation and the OPTIONS
               menu returns.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-1

Add the following definition for "Administrator":

SoftSolutions (also known as a "system manager").
"Administrator" is used in SoftSolutions manuals when
     referring to this person.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-1

Change the definition for "Application" to read:

Software, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, or graphics
program, that is used to create and edit the documents which
are to be accessed and managed through SoftSolutions.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-3

Add the following definition for "Dataset":

A collection of SoftSolutions Profiles, tables, and
     SpeedSearch indices.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-5

Add the following definition for "Field":

A location in a screen or window where information is
entered and displayed. Each character, word, or phrase is
identified by a "field name" on the screen/window, which
describes how the field is used (e.g., "Author" for the
field in which the creator of the document is displayed).
A field may contain one or more characters, and may or may
not be visited for data entry/editing (some fields are used
     to only display information).

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-8

Change the definition for "Option" to read:

A choice inside a Microsoft Windows dialog box.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-9

Add the following definition for "Profile":

A collection of information that describes a document
(similar to a card file). Each document managed by

     Full-Text or Profile searching.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-10

Add the following definition for "Screen":

In SoftSolutions for DOS, it is information displayed on the
monitor that takes up the entire viewing area. This usually
is a group of fields in a "main" screen, such as the
SoftSolutions DOCUMENT PROFILE screen. The word "screen" is
not used in documentation for the Windows version of
SoftSolutions, except in general reference to the monitor.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-11

Add the following definition for "System Manager":

     Any person using the software.

>> Terms Glossary: Appendix B p. B-12
