This document provides revisions to the SoftSolutions 4.0 for
Windows Installation Guide, dated 4-25-94, for updating to
SoftSolutions 4.1.

>> SoftSolutions Versions (all pages)

Wherever "4.0" references the current version of SoftSolutions,
change it to be "4.1," including when "40" is used in directory
paths (e.g., "\SS41," "\SS," "4.1 data directory").

>> About This Manual p. 1

Add the following BEFORE the "First Time Installation" heading:

You will also have the option of doing an "Express" or
     "Custom" installation.

     Other installation procedures include:

        * Document Desktop Installation
        * ODBC Workstation Installation
        * Remote Document Server Installation
        * SoftSolutions Workstation Installation

>> SoftSolutions Support pp. 3-7

Delete these pages. New support policies are contained in a new
appendix, title "Customer Support Services." See the Update
Documentation file SUPPORT.WP5 or SUPPORT.TXT for the text of the
new appendix.

>> Additional SoftSolutions Utilities p. 8

Remove "386" from "Novell NetWare 386."

>> HardWare & System Requirements p. 8

Replace the paragraph with:

SoftSolutions for Windows is designed to run on any machine
set up to run Microsoft Windows 3.1 or higher in standard or
enhanced mode. SoftSolutions will run on a 386sx PC with
4.0mb of RAM. But, Novell recommends at minimum a 486 PC
with 8mb of RAM. Additional RAM may be required, depending
on the number of applications opened simultaneously in
Windows. Windows requires at least an EGA monitor.
     SoftSolutions is network- and application-independent.
Server Enhancement Modules (SEMs) are available for various
     network operating systems.

>> Operations Performed by the Installation Program p. 11

Include "CD" with "diskettes" in step 1.

>> Before Installing SoftSolutions 4.1 for Windows p. 12

Include "CD" with "diskettes" in the third bullet.

>> Conversion Procedures p. 18

In step 2, change "type SSCV40" to read "type SSCV41."

>> Installation Procedures p. 21

Add the following NOTE after the first paragraph:

     NOTE
If you have made changes to your strings file that you
wish not to lose, do a "Custom Installation," then be
sure to select the "Convert Strings" option. The
          "Express Installation" automatically REPLACES the
current strings file with the new 4.x version.

>> Conversion Procedures p. 22

In step 2, change "type SSCV40" to read "type SSCV41."

>> Conversion Procedures p. 29

In step 2, change "type SSCV40" to read "type SSCV41."

>> Update Installation p. 37

Add the following NOTE to the bottom of the page:

     NOTE
A dataset conversion is NOT necessary when updating
from SoftSolutions 4.0 OR 4.0a to SoftSolutions 4.1.

>> Removing Previously-Installed SoftSolutions
Integrations p. 41

Replace step 1 with the following:

  1. Based on whether the CD, diskettes, or the network is being
used to perform the installation process, perform one of the
     following:

     NOTE
If you are using a multilingual CD, the /REMOVE switch
does not work with the SOINST installation command.
Therefore, create an installation diskette (only "Disk
1" is necessary) from the applicable subdirectory on
the CD (see the hint below) and use the "diskettes"
          option (b).

       a. Using the CD, perform the following:

            i. Insert the CD into the file server's CD-ROM drive.

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

          iii. Type "[CD-ROM's Drive Letter]:INSTALL /REMOVE" and
               press Enter or choose OK.

                  * For example, if the installation CD is in
                    drive E:, type:

                         E:INSTALL /REMOVE

       b. Using the DISKETTES, perform the following:

            i. Insert the diskette labelled "Disk 1" into the
file server's or workstation's floppy drive.

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

          iii. Type "[Diskette's Drive Letter]:INSTALL /REMOVE"
and press Enter or choose OK.

                  * For example, if the installation diskette is
                    in drive A:, type:

                          A:INSTALL /REMOVE

       c. Using the NETWORK, perform the following:

            i. If the SoftSolutions installation files were
previously placed on a file server's drive,
determine that location's full path and continue
with the next step; else, copy the installation
files to a network drive as outlined in the "Hint
for Quick Reinstallation" note on page # and then
               continue.

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

iii. Type "[Path to Parent Directory]\DISK1\INSTALL
/NODISK /REMOVE" and press Enter or choose OK.

                  * For example, if the parent directory is
                    F:\INST_SSW, type:

                         F:\INST_SSW\DISK1\INSTALL /NODISK
                              /REMOVE

>> Express Installation Steps pp. 46-47

Replace step 1 with the following:

  1. Based on whether a CD or diskettes are being used to perform
the installation process, do one of the following:

       a. Using a CD, perform the following:

            i. Insert the CD into the file server's or
               workstation's CD-ROM drive.

(It is unnecessary to change to a particular drive
               or working directory.)

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

iii. Type "[CD-ROM's Drive Letter]:INSTALL" and press
               Enter.

                  * For example, if the CD is in drive E:, type:

                         E:INSTALL

               NOTE
If you are installing from a multilingual CD,
                    use E:SOINST instead of E:INSTALL.

       b. Using the DISKETTES, perform the following:

            i. Insert the diskette labelled "Disk 1" into the
file server's or workstation's diskette drive.

(It is unnecessary to change to a particular drive
               or working directory.)

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

iii. Type "[Diskette's Drive Letter]:INSTALL" and press
               Enter.

                  * For example, if the installation diskette is
                    in drive A:, type:

                         A:INSTALL

(Installation can be stopped at any time by choosing Cancel.
The Cancel button simply cancels the current operation.
Choosing Cancel from the INSTALLATION METHOD window exits
INSTALL completely. Upon choosing Cancel from the
INSTALLATION METHOD window, the Confirm message box is
displayed. Choose No to continue with installation, or Yes
     to exit the INSTALL completely.)

     HINT FOR QUICK REINSTALLATION

A full network installation; a full installation to a
licensed PC; a Custom Installation to change
integrations; an installation to an additional server
(properly licensed)---these can all be made MORE
QUICKLY from a network server's hard drive by copying
the SoftSolutions installation files to a network
drive. The "/NODISK" switch permits this type of
          installation.

First, in the Windows File Manager, open a window to
the network drive. Second, create a subdirectory
(perhaps at the root) on the network drive, which will
be the "parent" directory for holding the installation
subdirectories (give it any name, such as "INST_SSW").
Then, follow the appropriate steps according to your
          SoftSolutions media type:

          CDs

            1. In File Manager, open a window to the CD-ROM's
               drive.

            2. Use the mouse to highlight and drag all files on
the CD's root to the PARENT directory on the
               network drive's window.

            3. Likewise, drag all directories (named DISK1,
DISK2, etc.) from the CD's window to the PARENT
directory on the network drive's window.

          DISKETTES

            1. Insert the FIRST installation diskette and open a
window in File Manager to the diskette's drive.

            2. For EACH installation diskette, create a
               corresponding subdirectory under the PARENT
               directory (e.g., \INST_SSW) on the network drive's
window. For example, the first installation
diskette should have a subdirectory named "DISK1,"
the next "DISK2," then "DISK3," and so on.

            3. Use the mouse to highlight and drag all files and
any subdirectories on the diskette to the
               appropriate subdirectory on network drive's
window. For example, if the installation diskette
numbered "1" is in the drive, move its contents to
               the \DISK1 subdirectory.

            4. Insert the NEXT installation diskette and press F5
to refresh the diskette drive's window.

            5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for EACH installation
               diskette.

TO INSTALL from the files in these "DISK..."
subdirectories, open Windows on the server or PC onto
which SoftSolutions is to be installed, choose
          File|Run, then type:

               [Path to Parent Directory]\DISK1\INSTALL /NODISK

where [Path to Parent Directory] is the FULL path to
the parent directory you created earlier. For example:

               F:\INST_SSW\DISK1\INSTALL /NODISK

Then, press Enter to begin the SoftSolutions
          installation program.

>> Step 4. NOTE p. 50

Change "SSCV40.EXE" to "SSCV41.EXE."

>> Step 6.c. p. 51

Add the following NOTE after this step:

     NOTE
Integration with Watermark Professional Edition 1.02 is
not automatically done by the SoftSolutions
          installation program. See "Watermark Professional
Edition" in the Setup Procedures section of the
SoftSolutions 4.1 for Windows Administrator's Guide for
instructions on setting up ODMA integration with
          Watermark Professional Edition.

>> Step 9. NOTE p. 52

Replace the NOTE with:

     NOTE
When using the installation diskettes (versus the CD or
"/NODISK" methods), insert the appropriate diskettes as
prompted and press Enter or choose OK.

>> Custom Installation Steps pp. 59-61

Replace step 1 with the following:

  1. Based on whether a CD or diskettes are being used to perform
the installation process, do one of the following:

       a. Using a CD, perform the following:

            i. Insert the CD into the file server's or
               workstation's CD-ROM drive.

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

iii. Type "[CD-ROM's Drive Letter]:INSTALL" and press
               Enter.

                  * For example, if the CD is in drive E:, type:

                         E:INSTALL

               NOTE
If you are installing from a multilingual CD,
                    use E:SOINST instead of E:INSTALL.

       b. Using the DISKETTES, perform the following:

            i. Insert the diskette labelled "Disk 1" into the
file server's or workstation's diskette drive.

ii. From within Windows, choose File|Run.

iii. Type "[Diskette's Drive Letter]:INSTALL" and press
               Enter.

                  * For example, if the installation diskette is
                    in drive A:, type:

                         A:INSTALL

          NOTE
If you have previously loaded INTEGRATIONS and you
only wish to update the integrations, use File|Run
               and type:

                    [Location of SoftSolutions
                         INSTALL.EXE]:INSTALL /INT

where [Location of SoftSolutions INSTALL.EXE] is
the full path to the file, INSTALL.EXE. This may
simply be the drive in which the SoftSolutions
installation CD or diskette is inserted, or it may
be the full path to the DISK1 subdirectory in
which this file exists. THE /INT SWITCH CANNOT BE
USED WITH THE MULTILINGUAL CD'S SOINST
               COMMAND---CREATE AND USE INSTALLATION DISKETTES
(see the hint on the following page).

          NOTE
If you have previously loaded UTILITIES and you
only wish to update the utilities, use File|Run
               and type:

                    [Location of SoftSolutions
                         INSTALL.EXE]:INSTALL /UTIL

where [Location of SoftSolutions INSTALL.EXE] is
the full path to the file, INSTALL.EXE. This may
simply be the drive in which the SoftSolutions
installation CD or diskette is inserted or it may
be the full path of the DISK1 subdirectory in
which this file exists. THE /UTIL SWITCH CANNOT
BE USED WITH THE MULTILINGUAL CD'S SOINST
               COMMAND---CREATE AND USE INSTALLATION DISKETTES
(see the hint on the following page).

               F:\INST_SSW\DISK1\INSTALL /NODISK

Then, press Enter to begin the SoftSolutions
          installation program.

(Installation can be stopped at any time by choosing Cancel.
The Cancel button simply cancels the current operation.
Choosing Cancel from the INSTALLATION METHOD window exits
INSTALL completely. Upon choosing Cancel from the

     to exit the INSTALL completely.)

>> Step 6. NOTE p. 64

Change "SSCV40.EXE" to "SSCV41.EXE."

>> Step 14.a.ii. p. 70

Add the following NOTE after the bullet in this step:

     NOTE
Integration with Watermark Professional Edition 1.02 is
not automatically done by the SoftSolutions
          installation program. See "Watermark Professional

          Watermark Professional Edition.

>> Step 16. NOTE p. 72

Replace the NOTE with:

     NOTE
When using the installation diskettes (versus the CD or
"/NODISK" methods), insert the appropriate diskettes as
prompted and press Enter or choose OK.

>> Workstation Installation Steps p. 79

Replace the last sentence in the NOTE with (and note that the
example line does NOT contain a period):

For example, the line "F:\SOFTSOL\DATA:SOFTSOL" may be in
     the DATAPATH statement.
