NOTE TO CUSTOMER
----------------
This is the final production issue, including the CD-style
jewel case packaging and documentation.

-* IMPORTANT FOR THOSE UPGRADING FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION *-
If you are upgrading from a previous version of SPAN-N, we
STRONGLY suggest that you backup all of your SPAN-N files
before proceeding with the upgrade. During the installation
process you will be asked if you wish to overwrite your
executables, and you should say YES. When asked if you
really want to overwrite your datafiles, you should say NO.
If you overwrite your datafiles and do not have a backup,
you will need to re-enter all of your user, receiver, group,
and other setup information.

Should you have any problems with SPAN-N during any part of
the installation process, or while using SPAN-N please call
the EVTEK Tech Support Center at 1-800-413-8835 between
8am to 8pm EST and they will be glad to assist you.

INTRODUCTION
------------

or a large corporation with multiple sites and hundreds, or
thousands of people.

The SPAN-N system was developed, and is copyrighted by DCC,
Inc. of Minneapolis, MN. It is distributed by EVTEK
Corporation of Cleveland, Ohio. We hope that your
experience with SPAN-N is a positive one. However should
you have problems our knowledgable technical support staff
is there to guide you through to success.

CONTENTS
--------
Please take a moment and read this file which contains late
breaking information on installation and operation of the
program.

It contains:

	PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
	REQUIREMENTS TO SEND MESSAGES
	PROGRAM INSTALLATION
	UN-INSTALLING SPAN-N
	IN CASE OF PROBLEMS

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
--------------------
SPAN-N requires Windows 3.1 or later, You will need about 4
megabytes free on your hard disk. And we recommend that you
have a minimum of 4 megs of ram.

REQUIREMENTS TO SEND AND RECEIVE MESSAGES
-----------------------------------------
1.) Pager or wireless data receiver - To receive messages
you will need some type of receiver. SPAN-N handles both
digital (numeric-only) and alphanumeric pagers. The device
must be programmed so that you may communicate with it
through your PIN See "PAGING ACCOUNT" below. Your service
provider may also provide you with News, Weather, Stock
Info, etc. on your pager. Ask your service representative.

2.) PAGING ACCOUNT - You should have a valid account with
a paging service provider in your area. They will give you
a modem access phone number (Central), a PIN
(Personal Identification Number), and a maximum message
length for that account. SPAN-N will automatically
break-up a message that is too long for a service, or a
particular receiver, into smaller message blocks. However
if you send a message block that is longer than the maximum,
you may find part of your messages truncated.

3.) MODEM - To send messages you will need one of the
following connected to the computer where the SPAN-N
Gateway is installed:

a.) A Hayes-compatible modem (internal to your computer or
attached to it through an available serial port).

b.) A direct connection to a paging terminal through a
serial port.

In either case, all serial communications are performed
through Windows, so SPAN-N is compatible with
comm-redirectors and other replacement communications
drivers you may have installed on your computer.

PROGRAM INSTALLATION
--------------------
IMPORTANT! - Install GATEWAY first! The setup program for
the client/administrator will prompt you if you havn't,
but it's simplest to just install the gateway first.

UPGRADES! - Make sure you backup your datafiles before you
proceed with the installation.

Installation is simplified with a Windows-based installation
program. First insert the disk marked "Gateway" into your
floppy drive. From within Windows Select "Run..." from the
file menu. Enter "A:SETUP" if your floppy drive is
assigned as A, or "B:SETUP" if assigned as drive B. Follow
the direction in the installation program. Check your
config.sys file on your computer and verify that you have a
statement which allocates at least fifty file "handles"
("FILES=50") Make sure that anyone attempting to use the
SPAN-N client, the administrator application, and the
Gateway all have read/write access to the common data
directory.

UN-INSTALLING SPAN-N
--------------------
The automatic program installation process DOES NOT alter
your autoexec.bat, config.sys files, nor any INI files.
So all you need to do is to remove the files from your hard
disk(s) where they were installed, and then remove any icons
and groups in the Windows Program Manager.

IN CASE OF PROBLEMS
-------------------
If you have problems that prevent you from a successful
installation, then call EVTEK Technical support immediately.

If you have successfully installed SPAN-N and have a problem
then:
1.) Ensure that you have a valid service account (PIN).
2.) Ensure that the phone number in the service setup is
correct.
3.) If possible, ensure that your pager is functioning
properly by sending, or having your service provider send
you a message of the same type (either digital or
alphanumeric). To that end, make sure you have a good set
of batteries in your receiver.
4.) Look through the on-line help, and the printed
documentation.
5.) Call EVTEK Technical Support Center at 800-413-8835,
8am-8pm EST.

When you call Tech support have the following information
available:

1.) Version of SPAN-N
2.) Version of DOS, Windows, network installed.
3.) Type of computer, ram-memory
4.) Manufacturer of modem, model/type.
5.) The name of your service provider, their TAP-access
phone number, PIN#, and max message length allowed.
