CorelSCSI Network Manager: README_2 Contents
============================================

The CorelSCSI Network Manager README files provide information that
was unavailable before the User's Manual was printed. The information
has been divided into three subject areas, each of which is described
in its own README file.

This README_2.TXT file provides information about CorelRAID. For
information about required NetWare patches and CDSVR.NLM, see the
README_1.TXT file. For information about host adapters, drivers, and
ASPI managers from specific manufacturers, see the README_3.TXT file.

1.  Backing Up the Server
=========================

Before installing CorelSCSI Network Manager, including
CorelRAID, backup the entire server twice.

2.  Using Existing NetWare Drives
=================================

If you want to use existing NetWare drives, ensure
that the contents of the drives have been backed up.
You must also delete the existing NetWare partitions
on the drives. You can then choose the drives
as part of an array, along with any new drives.

3.  Preventing Drive "Ghosting"
===============================

CorelRAID 2.0 requires that your host adapter can exclude from the
NetWare operating system the SCSI ID of hard drives you plan to use
in arrays.

Hard drives detected by CorelRAID are reported to NetWare as the
following: CRLDISK 'ha/id'. If the host adapter also reports
drives used in the array, then two devices report as the same one
to NetWare. This device "ghosting" may cause the server to abend.

To avoid device ghosting

1. When you load CorelRAID, use the EXCLUDE option to indicate the
    drives you want managed by the host adapter rather than CorelRAID.
    For example, the following command prevents CorelRAID from managing
    the drive at SCSI ID 0 on host adapter 0 and the drive at SCSI ID 3
    on host adapter 1:

       LOAD CRLRAID EXCLUDE=0/0,1/3

2. When you load the host adapter driver, use the appropriate switch
    to exclude drives you plan to use in arrays. The following list
    describes the required switches for some host adapters:

       ADAPTEC   LOAD AHA1540.DSK FIXED_DISK=OFF
                 LOAD AHA1640.DSK FIXED_DISK=OFF
                 LOAD AHA1740.DSK FIXED_DISK=OFF
                 LOAD AHA2740.DSK FIXED_DISK=OFF

       BUSLOGIC  LOAD BT311.DSK EXCLUDE_IDS="id","id"

       ULTRASTOR LOAD U24_31X.DSK /NF

Corel is currently working with all major host adapter vendors to ensure
that their drivers support the ability to exclude devices from NetWare.

4.  Replacing Failed Disks
==========================

The Replace Failed Disk option suspends activity on the SCSI bus to
allow you to hot swap a failed disk. Only devices controlled by the
CorelRAID driver are suspended. Therefore, before hot swapping
the failed disk, ensure all other devices are inactive.

5.  Conflicts with CDSVR.NLM
============================

In rare cases, CDSVR.NLM may cause errors when reading from CD-ROM
discs if CorelRAID is running on the same server. If these errors
occur, install CD-ROM drives on a different host adapter than the
RAID devices.

6. About Physical Disk Status Information
=========================================

CorelRAID provides several types of status information. The User's
Manual indicates that the physical disk information screen provides
two types of status information: Total cache blocks and Percentage
cache hit. This information is not provided.
