1. Welcome

Welcome to Cyco Software's AutoManager Organizer 1.1, the drawing
management program for DOS/ADS and Windows that runs inside AutoCAD.

This readme file contains information that is not contained in the
manual or on-line help such as a list of known problems. This readme
file also describes how you can upgrade to AM-WorkFlow.

2. Differences between the DOS/ADS and Windows version

The DOS/ADS version and the Windows version of AM-Organizer offer the
same functionality. Due to the fact that MS-Windows offers a more
advanced graphical user interface, the Windows version of AM-
Organizer implements some features in a more advanced way.
Nevertheless, the Windows and DOS/ADS versions are completely
compatible and can be used on the same database.

The differences between DOS/ADS and Windows include the following:

In the DOS/ADS version of AM-Organizer, the built-in file viewer
supports panning and zooming. The Windows version of file viewer
is more advanced and also offers you the possibility to view
   blocks, layers etc.

When you 'Check In' a file both the DOS/ADS and Windows version of
AM-Organizer offer you the possibility to visually compare the
drawing with its previous version. In the Windows version the
compare feature is more advanced, offering features such as
'overlayed viewing' and a 'delta' view.

When you enter one of AM-Organizer's dialog boxes with a database
listbox (such as Open or Insert), you might notice a delay
depending on the number of drawings in your database. In the
Windows version of AM-Organizer these delays will not occur.

In some places AM-Organizer uses listboxes where you can select
multiple files (for example, in the Check-out dialog box). In the
Windows version the way you can select and deselect in such a list
box differs from the way this normally works in AutoCAD. This is
further explained in the On-line Help.

3. Upgrading to AutoManager WorkFlow 3.1

AM-Organizer offers a smooth upgrade path to AutoManager WorkFlow,
Cyco's complete Technical Document Management System. All database
fields and data that you produce in AutoManager Organizer are
directly importable into AM-WorkFlow.

Although AM-Organizer offers a sophisticated level of drawing
management, there are various reasons why you might want to upgrade
to AM-WorkFlow:

AM-Organizer manages AutoCAD drawings only whereas AM-WorkFlow
manages many other types of documents as well, such as text
documents (WordPerfect or ASCII), raster files (Windows bitmaps,
PCX, RLC, RLE, TGA, CALS Group IV, TIFF and GIF) and drawings from
other CAD programs (Intergraph, Generic CADD and DXF).

AM-WorkFlow runs outside of AutoCAD. Therefore you don't need
AutoCAD when you run AM-WorkFlow. AM-WorkFlow is not only useful
for AutoCAD users, but to all people who wish to access documents
such as managers and other professionals.

AM-WorkFlow provides unequaled power for customizing your database
environment with BaseLISP, AM-WorkFlow's internal customizing
language. You can program functions, variables, string handlers,
interactive dialog boxes, prompts, and a virtually unlimited array
   of user-definable automated features.

Using WorkFlow's Database Manager and Screen Painter you can
design your own databases and screen layout.

AM-WorkFlow has been pre-customized for AutoCAD applications from
Softdesk (AdCADD Civil/Survey & Architectural), Image Systems
(ViewBase and CAD Overlay ESP), Applications Development (The Pro-
Series), Autodesk (AutoCAD AEC), LANDCADD International (LANDCADD)
and Genius CAD-Software (GENIUS). Furthermore AM-WorkFlow has been
pre-customized for use with Intergraph Microstation and Generic
   CADD.

AM-WorkFlow 3.1 provides more flexibility for maintaining database
security. Access to files, external applications, and internal AM-
WorkFlow functions can be easily customized based on user security
level, the extension of the file, or the result of a customized
   expression for more security.

Along with DOS and Windows, a version of AM-WorkFlow for Sun SPARC
workstations ships in each box of AM-WorkFlow.

AutoManager WorkFlow provides automated file naming standards and
storage locations that are easily customized to your company's
needs. Imagine the time you would save by ensuring that your
drawings and other documents are stored exactly where you want
them! File names can include information about the file such as
project name, client name, drafter's initials, and more. You
customize it to make the most sense for your company.

AM-WorkFlow gives you redlining, printing and plotting outside
AutoCAD. (This is not supported on the Sun SPARC platform)

AM-Organizer's installation program installs a file called
AMO2AMW.ZIP in the AM\AMODB directory which contains a configuration
file for AM-WorkFlow and other support files. This configuration will
allow you to use the database you created in AM-Organizer together
with AM-WorkFlow 3.1. The file AMO2AMW.ZIP is a compressed file which
can be decompressed with PKUNZIP. This program can be found on the
AM-Organizer for DOS/ADS installation disk.

4. Known Problems

AM-Organizer may crash when either <username>.ABU or AMO.SET file
   has become corrupt.
The <username>.ABU file is where AM-Organizer stores your personal
settings and preferences. The AMO.SET file is where AM-Organizer
stores global settings. Both files are stored in the AM\SYSTEM
directory. They may become corrupt after an abnormal program
termination (for example, when you switch off your computer while
AM-Organizer is loaded). When one of these files becomes corrupt
you might experience that the program will crash soon after AM-
Organizer is loaded or soon after you log into AM-Organizer.
This problem can be solved by deleting the corrupted file(s). AM-
Organizer will then automatically create a new copy of the deleted
file(s) (and all settings will be reset to their default values).

Redefining AutoCAD commands may not work.
In the Personal Preferences dialog box you can instruct AM-
Organizer to redefine Open and New so that these commands do the
same as AMOPEN and AMNEW. This should work well with all
US/English, German, French, Spanish and Italian versions of
AutoCAD. If you're using another language version of AutoCAD, this
option will not work unless you add the following lines to the
   AM.INI file:

   [AutoCAD Commands]
      LocalizedOpenCommand=<open>
      LocalizedNewCommand=<new>

<open> and <new> should be replaced by the Open and New commands
for your localized AutoCAD version. Note that if you are using
both the DOS/ADS and Windows versions of AM-Organizer, you should
   modify both AM/AMO11/AM.INI and AM/AMO11WIN/AM.INI.

Using AutoCAD Login name doesn't work in hardware-lock versions of
   AutoCAD.
In AM-Organizer's Global Settings you can specify what user name
should be presented by default when you log in to AM-Organizer.
AM-Organizer can use the AutoCAD user name, the Novell user name
(if you're logged in to a Novell network) or the contents of an
environment variable. Due to a limitation in AutoCAD using the
AutoCAD user name is only possible in AutoCAD versions which do
   not require a hardware lock.

AM-Organizer/Windows may crash if you are using an ATI Wonder VGA
   adapter.
This is due to a bug in (certain versions of) the Mach 32 drivers.
This bug may cause AM-Organizer to crash during 'Check In' when
you want to perform a visual compare between the old and the new
   versions of the drawing.
   There may be several work-arounds:
   (1) Make sure you're using the Mach 32 driver with 'Small Fonts'.
   (2) Modify the [mach32] section of WIN.INI to set
   'DeviceBitmap=off' and 'DeviceBitmapDraw=off'.
   (3) Use the Windows Control Panel to switch to the 8514 video
driver. This driver can be used with the Mach 32 display adapter.
   (4) A newer version of the display driver may solve these
problems. The phone number for ATI User Support in the USA is
   (416) 756-0711. The most recent drivers are available on the ATI
BBS. Use your modem to dial (416) 756-4591 to download these
   drivers.
