Welcome to the new DevTech Installation Tool. In response to users
requests, Development Technologies, Inc. has streamlined the installation
process. We hope that you will find it more convenient to use.

The graphical installation tool is for installing DeskMan/2 on a local
computer. Once installed, the original installation options are saved and
the user should not have to enter them again unless they wish to change the
file and directory layout.

You may choose to install DeskMan/2 and it's components either with the
Express method or the Custom method. A number of users have asked for a
simplified installation. Yet, others want much more control over the
placement of the files. We hope that this tool provides the means for
satisfying both needs.

EXPRESS INSTALLATION:

To use the Express method, select OK on the welcome screen. You will then
have the brief install dialog. Change the default target path for the
installation. Select one of the Express Actions, the default is install.
Finally select the Express Installation button and the rest is done for
you.

CUSTOM INSTALLATION:

To use the Custom method. select OK on this welcome screen and then select
Custom Installation button on the brief install dialog. You will then be
presented with a number of options for each component. This is for users
who wish to have the applications in specific directories or paths.

With release 1.51 of DeskMan/2, the choices you make for installation are
now saved. On future installations and updates you will be presented with
the last set of choices you made.

DM/2 WPS IMAGE BACKUP:

Beginning with release 1.51, you now have the option of running a select
Workplace Shell Image backup, if you are installing DM/2 WPS Image Backup
Facility. This option defaults to Yes.

This facility is provided to ensure the user a way to completely restore
the Workplace Shell Desktop as it is currently configured. It does take
some time, depending on the size of the hard disk. However, it is
recommended to use this option on at least the initial installation of
the product.

The backup is performed only if all components are being installed. For the
Refresh, Uninstall and Remove options, this setting is ignored, so the user
can leave it set to Yes, and have it active only on installs and upgrades.

INSTALLATION REFRESH:

This is a new feature of DeskMan/2. This option will restore and
reregister the objects. This is useful following a file restore. If you
restored all the files to the correct directories (as noted in the
installation screen), you may select the Refresh option and the
installation will complete for you.

A note on the use of the Custom Install options. If you decide to move
your files, you may now use the Uninstall option. Then change the
directories and do the install. The files will be copied to the new
directories and the system notified of the changes.

REMOVE vs. UNINSTALL:

The uninstall option is provided for those who have a need to temporarily
remove the components from the active Workplace Shell environment. No
files are actually deleted. Some users like to uninstall before they
update. The remove option not only uninstalls, but also removes the files
and the ini file entries. If you do an install after that, you will be
starting completely fresh.
