  Before Installing

  1. IMPORTANT: If Microsoft Windows is installed in a write-protected network
directory, a person with write privileges to the Windows directory must install
       this product.

  2. Review the Product Release Notes, if any, for special instructions pertaining to
       the installation of this product.

  3. Be sure that no Powersoft products or the Watcom SQL engine are running.

  4. During installation you may not be prompted for every diskette in the set.
Which diskettes you will be prompted for depends on the options you select.

  To Install

  1. Insert the diskette labeled "Disk 1 of 1" into the floppy drive of your computer.

  2. Run the SETUP program on the diskette. You can do this in one of three ways.
(This example uses Drive A, however, your floppy drive may be a different letter.)

           * From the DOS prompt, type: WIN A:\SETUP
           * From Windows Program Manager, choose File/Run and type: A:\SETUP
           * From Windows File Manager, double-click on the SETUP.EXE file on Drive A.

  3. Below is a brief description of what is installed when you make your selections:

           * Powersoft Database Interfaces: Files necessary for you to connect to
various databases within the PowerBuilder environment, or in your
runtime application. When installing the Interface(s) for the Development
environment, install these files in your PowerBuilder directory.
When deploying an application, install these files in the same directory
where you install the Deployment Kit.

  4. The installation procedure will prompt you:

           * When the procedure needs the next diskette or more information, or when
it requires a decision to change or replace files. Respond to the prompts
               and select options as appropriate.

           * When the procedure finds existing Powersoft initialization (*.INI) files in
the target directory. If you are unsure as to how to proceed, we suggest
that you consult your system administrator for direction.

           * When the procedure is ready to update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. You can
choose to let the installation procedure change the existing file, create a
new file for you, or proceed without making any file changes. Your
AUTOEXEC.BAT is not modified when installing a Database Interface.

  5. Exit to DOS and verify that the Powersoft DDDK directory(s) is included
in your DOS PATH command and that your PATH command does not exceed
128 characters. This will happen automatically if you let the installation
procedure update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the previous step.
The DOS PATH is not modified when installing Database Interface files
because they should be installed in your existing PowerBuilder directory.

  6. Re-boot your PC and start Windows.

** IMPORTANT NOTE for Sybase and SQLServer users **
. SQLServer and Sybase System10 users need to run the ISQL script
PBSYB.SQL provided on this diskette against the Master Database .
Existing 3.0 users do not need to do so since script has not changed
         for this release.
. Users of the Sybase CTLIB interface need to run the ISQL scripts
PBSYB.SQL and PBSYC.SQL provided on this diskette against the
Master Database. The order in which these scripts are run is not
         important.
