This pamphlet will get you off to a fast start by giving you a
brief tour of WorldMap's features. It will tell you how to
install the WorldMap disk on your computer, how to move around a
map, how to change the amount of detail you're looking at, and
how to close WorldMap.

A Quick Look at ADC WorldMap
=============================
Before we get into details about WorldMap's many features and
capabilities, let's install our WorldMap Demo and take a quick
tour. To do this, use the following procedure:

Installing WorldMap
===============
There are only three steps in the WorldMap installation procedure:

	1. Load the WorldMap Demo Disk in your floppy drive.

	2. Copy all the files in the DEMO directory to a
	   directory on your hard drive.

	3. Start Mapinfo

Loading the WorldMap Workspace
==============================
MapInfo workspace files are provided with the WorldMap Demo.
Workspaces make your life easier because they are used to load
maps made up of many layers, each with its own display
characteristics. We have provided some WorldMap workspaces to
get you started.

To view your first WorldMap, follow these steps:

	1. Start MapInfo

	2. Select Add WorkSpace from the MapInfo Files menu.

	3. Use the right side of the dialog box to select the disk
	   drive that represents where you installed the demo.

	4. Next select the directory where you installed the demo.

	5. There will be at least one workspace (.WOR) file listed on
	   the left side of the dialog box. Select the "DEMO.WOR" workspace.

	6. Click on the OK button.

Zooming around WorldMap
=======================
Select the MapInfo Zoom-in tool. Move it to anywhere on your
screen that is within the map. Now press and hold
the left mouse button while you move the mouse to form a box
about two inches square. Release the mouse button.

Your display should disappear and a new map will be drawn. This
map will show more detail than the previous map. You will
probably see the land areas (green), oceans, large lakes, and
rivers (blue), and country or region boundaries (magenta).

Use the Zoom-in tool once again. As you zoom farther into the
map, more details will appear. At the closest levels of zoom,
you should see roads, railroads, utility lines, terrain
features, cities, towns, and a wide variety of map labels. Each
of these is on its own layer and can be turned on and off
individually.

Now use the MapInfo Grabber tool to move the map around your
screen. Once you have reached the zoom level that you need, you
can use the Grabber tool to position the map to show exactly
what you want.

Finally, use the Zoom-out tool to draw a small box on the
screen. MapInfo will zoom back out again to give you a broader
view of your map. Details will disappear as you zoom farther out.

Note: If you don't want to wait for MapInfo to redraw the entire
screen, you can stop the redraw at any time by pressing the
Escape key. This will let you pick another zoom, or start
another MapInfo operation.

Using the Info Tool
===================
You can use the MapInfo "Info" tool to retrieve information about
anything you see on a map. Try the following:

Select the MapInfo Info tool. Use it to select any feature on the map.
An info box will immediately appear on your screen. It will show you a
variety of information about the entity you selected. For example, if you
select an airport, it will show you the airport's name and elevation. No
matter what type of feature you select, you will always see the feature's
entity type and ID number. If you are using the "join" workspace (described
below), the info box will include an English description of the feature.

Closing WorldMap
================
When you have finished exploring your WorldMap, you can close
its files and exit MapInfo. These are the steps:

	1. Select Close All from the Files menu. This will close all
	    the WorldMap tables.

	2. Select Exit from the Files menu, or double click on the
	    control-menu icon in the upper left corner of the MapInfo
	    screen. This will exit MapInfo.

Join Workspace
==============
The other workspace included in this demo is the join workspace.
Load "JOINDEMO.WOR" with the add workspace command. Queries
performed with the info tool now return more detailed infomation
than before. Each query returns an English description of the entity,
in addition to the entity type code that was returned when the previous
workspace is used.

There is one drawback to working with joined maps:
If you save a workspace and quit mapinfo, extra steps are
required to reload the map later. To reload your personal saved
workspace later, you must first reload the original joined
workspace. Then after the joined workspace is loaded you may
load your saved workspace. This extra step builds the virtual
tables necessary when working with joined tables.
