                      (NT Version 3.5)

Windows NT Version 3.5 is still BETA software, and will
still change prior to public availability. Many Octopus
customers are evaluating Windows NT version 3.5, and some
are actively using it.

P&W Technologies cannot support an unreleased platform. We
are tracking all NT development, and Octopus currently does
run under Daytona, with restrictions (see below). But we
cannot assure Octopus customers that NT 3.5 will not change
in some way that invalidates Octopus operations. We will
announce full support as soon as we can following the
release of Windows NT 3.5.

Running Octopus As A Service on Daytona

Octopus provides the flexibility to run either as a user
application or as an NT Service. When run as a user
application, Octopus will terminate when the user logs-off
from NT. When run as an NT Service Octopus will continue to
run until it is explicitly terminated or until NT is
rebooted.

Due to some unresolved issues accessing the system desktop
in DAYTONA, specific steps must be taken in order to run
Octopus as an NT Service. P&W Technologies is working with
Microsoft to address these issues. This product bulletin
details the procedures for installing and running Octopus as
an NT Service on DAYTONA platforms. If you will be running
Octopus strictly as a user application, this does not affect
you.

The information provided below is intended to serve as a
guideline for running Octopus as an NT Service on DAYTONA
platforms. Detailed information for each step listed below
is provided in the OctopusTM Getting Started Guide.

     1. Start Octopus as an application (click on Octopus
     Icon)

     2. Define mirror sites

     3. Link mirror sites

     4. Turn on mirroring

     5. Turn on forwarding

     6. Specify files to be mirrored

     7. Select Maintenance/Options... from the Octopus Menu
          - click on Forwarding and Mirroring On
           - click on Start During Boot (as an NT Service)
check box - box should have an X

     8. Reboot system

If you want to view the Octopus Error Log (default path is
C:\OCTOPUS\DATA\ERROR.LOG), you will have to use the Notepad
Accessory because you will not have access to the Octopus
Menu.

If you need to make any changes to your Octopus
configurations (i.e., mirroring/forwarding status, file
definitions, site definitions) after Octopus has been
running as a service, you must do the following:

     1. Select the Services Icon from the Control Panel

     2. Scroll to OctopusBoot in the Service Status Window

     3. Disable OctopusBoot (double click on OctopusBoot and
     click on Disabled)

     4. Reboot system and follow the appropriate steps
     described above.
